VOLUME 26 NUMBER 2 LODGE 239-283-4388 FEBRUARY 2019
GREETINGS FROM YOUR EXALTED RULER The new Lodge year is just around the corner. We have made lots of changes this year and hope to continue them into the new Lodge year. We are looking into different areas that will bring in more members, and with the help of our current members, will make our Lodge bigger and stronger. I am encouraging everyone to come down and enjoy our Lodge!
Officer & Trustee Nominations for the 2019 -2020 Elks Year will be held at the first meeting in February, on Tuesday the 12th. Anyone wishing to run for Office should be present at this meeting. If there is a contested Office the membership will vote at the February 26th meeting. We have one trustee chair to be filled and all the Officer posi-tions are open. If you have a desire to get involved in the management of the Lodge,
now is the time. The future of our Order is determined by the strength of our leadership and that can only come from the rank and file of the organization. Step up and get involved. Contact Secretary, Donna Yorkston or myself if you are interested in being nominated for an Office. If you are considering running for one of the positions, make sure you have someone at the February 12th meeting to nominate you. Please come and show support for your Officers. I encourage all members to attend the February meetings to nominate and elect competent people. Newly elected Officers and Trustees will take office on April 1st.

Thanks again to everyone who do-nate their time, money, energy and talents to make our Lodge great. It is very important to donate, but much more important to PARTICIPATE! Get involved. IT IS YOUR LODGE AND IT IS GREAT TO BE AN ELK!
And lastly, I would like to thank Leigh and Jay Lingwall, and their helpers, for organizing yet another fantastic Snowbird Marathon event. Make sure to take a look at the pictures on our website, https://www.gpielks.org/picture-galleries.html.

APPLICATIONS ARE COMING IN BUT DELINQUENCY PERSISTS. In February we will initiate new Members. Applications are being accepted in order to compensate for the delinquents, who will be dropped in just two months. Once more I plead with those who have not paid the current year’s dues of $80.50 to do so now and avoid being dropped on March 31. Everyone who reads the bul-letin knows what great work our Lodge is doing for veter-ans, our youth, and for the community. Along with Lodge fundraisers, your dues contribute to maintaining our Lodge and its overhead, as well as providing a facility to meet other Members and enjoy Elks sociability. As a Secretary reminder: Dues notices for the 2019-20 year will be mailed in Feb-ruary. Dues will be $81.25 for Members.

HOUSE COMMITTEE MESSAGES
This month brings the Super Bowl Party on Sunday, February 3rd. It is an event you don’t want to miss. There are prizes, gaming, taco and hot dog bar all for $5.00. The Patriots and Rams will be the featured event. If anyone can help out for this it would be greatly appreciated.
Our Valentine Dinner/Dance will be held on Saturday February 9th, Host and Hostess Charlie and Debbie Stinson have ordered up Surf and Turf for the evening, tickets are on sale at the lodge or on the website 2 for $40.00 or $42 on our website, www.gpielks.org. Terry Hood, Toes in the Sand will provide the music.
Friday, February 15 Tom Gauthier will be bringing KARAOKE back to the lodge .
Saturday, February 16 is Cook Your Own Steak Night, prices vary $13 for Strip Steak and $15 for Filet, both 8oz with Baked Potato, Vegie, Salad and Dessert. Tickets are on sale, music by Tommy Barr
Our popular Murder Mystery Dinner Theater is Saturday February 23rd, don’t miss out on this Harry Anna Trust Fundraiser with Maria Belke’s Lasagna. Tickets are on sale for $20. $5.00 from each ticket will be donated to the Trust.
Your House Committee needs You. Have you thought about being a bar steward, bar tender or just wanting to stand behind a bar and schlep some drinks? Well, we need you. We are looking for new peo-ple to help in all roles. If you are interested, please reach out to Linda Henry or Judy Hopkins.
Also a little note regarding Friday Night Dinners, it has become difficult finding members to volunteer for this. It is a service that many expect but we are always begging for help. It is very unfair to assume that it just happens and almost always it is the same people helping. Please consider donating some time for a couple of hours, we can help you if you are unsure of what is expected. You don’t have to be a gourmet cook. We have over 400 members, can we get some help?

ENF CORNER As we begin the 4th and last quarter of our ENF year I want to give you a summary of where we were at, at the end of December. Through 31 De-cember we have donated $5058 to ENF. Of that $1860 was a carryover form the 2017-2018 year that was received In March 2018 at our ENF Fund-
raiser dinner. $3198 has been donated since the beginning of the 2018-2019 year. The total of $5058 puts us in place number 6 of all Florida Lodges with a per capita of $13.82. We are number 1 in FL Lodges of 301-500 members and number 34 nationally in the same category. This has been a tremendous improvement over the last 3 ENF years. Our support for ENF has been reciprocated through Grants this year from ENF for a total of $17,500.
The importance of our support for ENF cannot be over emphasized for all that it accom-plishes through its many programs supporting scholarship, youth, veterans, and communi-ty investment. I ask for your continued support in this the last quarter of the year and in future years. We will be having a fundraiser next month through a Luau on March 9th with “Big Ed” roasting a pig, authentic steel drum music by Skip, and tropical drinks. Please plan on supporting this fun event and give us a jump start on the 2019-2020 year.

GPI Elks Donate Basketballs to the Pine Island Elementary School Back in December 2018, The Pine Island Elementary School had a basketball Hoop Shoot that was sponsored by the Greater Pine Island Elks Lodge #2781. During the Hoop Shoot, SRO Cpl. W. Rivera noticed that the school basketballs were worn and that the kids could use some new ones. After the Hoop Shoot, members of the Elks Lodge gathered under the pavilion. SRO Cpl. W. Rivera joined the members underneath the pavilion. Cpl. W. Rivera was speaking with one of the members about trying to get some new basketballs donated to the school. The Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge Judy Hopkins overheard the conversation and asked about the basketballs. Cpl. W. Rivera explained his concerns on trying to get new balls for the schools and she agreed to help out with the purchase and donation of 10 new basketballs. The balls were purchased with funds from Greater Pine Island Charita-ble Trust and presented to the Pine Island Elementary School on Thursday, January 24th.
In the photo from left to right are parties who attended:

Cpl. W. Rivera: “I would personally like to the thank Judy Hopkins, Lee Wilbur and the greater Pine Island Elks Lodge #2781 on their generous donation to the Pine Island Elemen-tary School. I am sure the children will be extremely happy. It shows how much the community is in support of the school and the children that attend there”.
