ALPHAPOINTE UPDATE

On July 11, 2012, eight GKC DGs volunteered to help Alphapointe Adventure Campers fuel up before an exciting day at Camp Lake of the Woods. The group prepared a delicious breakfast, complete with wildly popular french toast sticks. After singing songs and participating in an ice breaker, the students boarded the bus and were on their way.

Adventure Camp is for children ages 9-14 years with vision impairment. The day camp introduces kids to a variety o f t r a d i t i o n a l o u t d o o r c a m p experiences, but focuses on the particular needs of youth with vision impairment. Campers enjoy cookouts, creative arts, canoeing, hiking, swimming, a ropes course, and much more. They have the chance to practice functional, social, and independent living skills all while forming friendships and having fun!

The eighth annual TABLES THAT BLOOM luncheon and silent auction was a rousing success with over $11,000 raised to benefit Alphapointe, the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired, and the Delta Gamma Foundation. Guests dined amid spectacular tablescapes created by talented Kansas City designers and florists and bid on a fantastic array of auction items donated by area vendors.

Elizabeth Alex (AΩ), evening anchor for KSHB 41 Action News, served as the mistress of ceremonies and Jennifer Bertrand shared her inspiring life story as winner of HGTV’s Design Star and mother of a special needs child. Guests enjoyed musical entertainment from the CCVI Kindergarten class and 12-year-old Chloe Deremiah recounted her wonderful experience at Alphapointe’s Adventure Camp.

BOUTIQUES FOR BLOOM, a shopping extravaganza held the evening before at Briarcliff Village, kicked off this philanthropic cause. Participating stores included Amelia's, Design in the City, Eclektica, Finishings for Her, Lauren Alexandra, Salutations by Mairead Design, Shana Vaughn, Smart Feet and Sunflower Dermatology. Trezo Mare hosted desserts, coffee, and a fashion show where each of the boutiques highlighted their latest spring fashions modeled by Beta Kappa collegians. Sales and raffle proceeds directly benefited Alphapointe, CCVI, and the Delta Gamma Foundation.

Kudos to Brynn Chapman (AY) and Jennifer Westlake (AY) for co-chairing this wonderful fundraiser for the past two years! Success would not have been possible without their hard work and that of over 50 Delta Gamma volunteers. Thank you!

BULLETIN BOARD

NEWS FROM BETA KAPPA–KANSASBeta Kappa had a great spring semester, earning campus-wide

recognition from beginning to end. After ten months of tireless work with our SigEp partners to write, produce and perform an original musical production for KU's "Rock Chalk Revue" our show won: Best Choreography, Best Production Number, Best Use of Theme & Script, Best Female Lead...AND "Best Overall Show!" Rock Chalk Revue is one of the largest student-run philanthropies in the nation, raising more than $1 million for the United Way since 1983. Thank you DG alumnae for the full page "Good Luck" ad in our student newspaper on opening day!

We closed the year being honored at KU’s 23rd Annual Greek Awards in multiple categories of "excellence," including leadership, campus engagement, community service and risk management. Beta Kappa was also thrilled to win the highest overall award—"KU Panhellenic Chapter of the Year"! Advisory Team Chairman, LeeAnn Van Dyne (ZH), also won the Outstanding Alumna Service Award!

We enter the new school year with great momentum and look forward to Beta Kappa's Homecoming Celebration Weekend (Oct. 26 & 27, 2012) in honor of KU’s 100th Homecoming. We invite our

alumnae to "come home" t o B e t a K a p p a t h a t weekend (details on page 8). We hope to fill our c h a p t e r h o u s e w i t h generations of alumnae and their families! (Left: DGs and SigEps perform a musical number in Rock Chalk Revue).

NEWS FROM MU–MISSOURIThe women of Mu Chapter received special recognition at Delta

Gamma’s Convention in June! First, we received the Mu Chapter Lamps of Knowledge plaque. Mu collegians and alumnae raised $70,000 to provide, in perpetuity, a dangle charm to every collegian in the country for her first 4.0 GPA. We are one of only two Delta Gamma chapters who have funded such a program. The plaque will have a special place in the chapter’s Heritage Room.

The second honor acknowledged Mu Chapter’s participation in the TOMS Great Fight For Sight. For every pair of sunglasses a DG sold, a person in need receives sight-saving surgery, glasses, or medication. Mu was second among all the DG chapters that participated in the competition!

This spring we teamed with Sigma Nu and Iota Phi Theta for the first “Best of Both Worlds BBQ”. We participated in Phi Delt’s Phunky Disco and Alpha Delta Pi’s Kickin’ It kickball tournament. We had Pinafore, Formal, Mom’s Weekend, and a great sisterhood retreat. VIP dinners were held for the Panhellenic Board and the presidents of all 14 chapters. Even with our busy philanthropic and social schedule, our 241 members achieved a 3.297 GPA, which is above the all-sorority, all-women’s and all-campus GPAs.

We’re proud of our women and thankful to our alumnae for their constant support! Be sure to visit Mu over Homecoming weekend (details on page 8)!(Left: Foundation Board of Trustee Secretary, Susie Gromer Lamy ( M ) , p r e s e n t s M u C h a p t e r president Taylor Deppe with the Lamps of Knowledge plaque.)

2012-2013 DU E S IN F O R M AT I O NAs a Delta Gamma Alumna you are asked to pay two types of dues annually, Per Capita and Local. Per Capita dues are collected by Executive Office (EO) and support Fraternity-wide initiatives. Local dues stay in Kansas City and support our chapter activities. With your local dues we are able to:

• Offer interesting and exciting programs at our monthly alumnae meetings.• Make contributions to the University of Missouri (Mu) and University of Kansas (Beta Kappa) collegiate chapters for things like

Anchor Splash and finals treats.• Provide charitable donations to the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired and Alphapointe to support their efforts to improve

the lives of visually impaired children and adults in Kansas City.• Create an annual member directory, newsletters, and a website so that members can stay in touch and be informed. (The member

directory is handed out at membership meetings or can be mailed to you for $3.)

PAY YOUR DUES TODAYHelp Delta Gamma grow and prosper by paying both your Local and Per Capita dues. Our new year began on July 1, 2012.

• Local Dues: to pay your $20.00* regular dues or to contribute at the Bronze, Pink or Blue level: Visit www.kcdg.org to pay via PayPal or mail the enclosed dues card with your check, payable to Delta Gamma, in the return envelope also included to Caryll Schultz (M), vp: finance, 13209 Delmar St., Leawood, Kansas, 66209.

• Per Capita Dues: to pay your $25.00 Per Capita dues go online to www.deltagamma.org or contact Executive Offices at 614-481-8169 or 3250 Riverside Drive, P.O. Box 21397, Columbus, Ohio, 43221, for payment instructions.
