PakistanPakistan is a country with a population of 166,036,895 located on

the boarder if the Indian and Eurasian Plates. There is a great amount of pressure in that area around where the plates meet which, when released, can cause earthquakes.A country with a history of natural disasters including earthquakes, tsunamis, wind storms, draughts and more recently a lot of flooding, the Great Pakistan Earthquake or Kashmir Earthquake was one of, if not the most destructive natural disaster in the region, raising the death toll up to 18,000.India and Kashmir also felt the effects of the earthquake but not at much.

Climate Pakistan is a country will a varying climate. There has

been, according to Wikipedia, a wide variation of extreme temperatures in different parts of the county and at different times, though little rainfall. The climate varies in particular locations because of a difference in elevation.

SUMMERWINTER

Lower areas swelter in the heat (100°F)

Upper areas have pleasant temperature

Lower areas cool down

Higher areas drop to well below freezing

Destructive Plate Boundary

When the Indian Plate collides with the Eurasian plate, it slides underneath it and creates the Himalayan Mountain range.

In this case, this would be the Indian Plate…

PredictionWho could have predicted a scale 7.6 earthquake

to just happen while they were sitting at home or at school? Is there any way to know if and when an earthquake is going to occur?

There is currently no reliable way to predict the near date of an earthquake in a specific location. Of coarse, from the way the plates move, it may be generally said that an earthquake might occur there, but there is no proof.

Some scientist believe it cannot be done- there are too many factors to be considered-, but many would answer: not yet, but eventually.

Currently, there is no way to predict an earthquake in a specific area to evacuate people in cities in the area.

Preparation1) Create clipboard (with red pen)with information such as your address, name, number of people living in the building, ect., for to provide information for rescue teams.

2) Earthquake or disaster kit (find full list at http://www.amerrescue.org/quakprep.htm)

3) Know where to go and what to do if an earthquake hits (under tables, desks or other sturdy items away from windows in case of shattering glass).

4) Secure pieces of furniture.

5) Food, water and clothing accessible.

ProtectionMost important thing to know is how you are going to protect yourself in the event of an earthquake. Here are some things that you can do for your own protection:

1) Duck and cover! Get under a desk or table or in a corner or doorway and be prepared to move with the object you are holding on to! Cover your head and neck with your hands and arms.

2) If there is no sturdy desk or table in the room and you are in a high-rising building, stand against an interior wall.

3) If you happen to be outdoors, try to be in an open area away from objects such as signs, street lights, power lines, trees, buildings and walls which may fall on you.

4) If in a car, pull over to the side of the road away from power lines and other large objects which may collapse and stay in your car.

5)Stay away from shelves or other objects which things may fall off onto you.

6) If in a theatre or stadium, stay in your seat and go below the level of the seat back. Take on protective position.
