SYNOPSIS (THIS OUTLINES THE FLOW OF THE PARTY EVENTS).

Given the current state of affairs in Gravestone, Arizona, the mayor feared for his life and hadn’t seen the sun in months. With the last three sheriffs mysteriously shot in the back…Gravestone had become a lawless town run by a bunch of outlaws known as The Ranchers. Soon after Wylie and his group arrived in Gravestone, the mayor asked Bella Starry - a waitress at the Gravestone Saloon - to invite everyone in town for a celebration. The mayor had high hopes that Wylie and his brothers would consider taking over as the law enforcement in town and getting The Ranchers under control or better yet…running them out of town. Everyone in town gathered at the Gravestone Saloon - even some of the Ranchers and other outlaws. A reward poster surfaced and rumors of codes hidden around town leading to a hidden treasure in the Gravestone Cave flew around the room as the townspeople enjoyed cocktails and appetizers. *IMPORANT INFORMATION REGARDING CHARACTER ASSIGNMENTS:

Assign your most definite RSVPs and outgoing guests to the required characters and the more tentative, shy/reserved guests for the optional characters. To figure out who will be a ‘definite RSVP’, it is highly suggested to send a ‘save the date’ email out to your prospective guests way in advance of the party date so you can either eliminate those guests from your list who can’t make it (and therefore you will not assign them to a character) or you can change your party date if enough required-character guests simply cannot make it. It’s suggested to invite more than the required number of players as any of the ‘required’ guests could cancel at the last minute and leave you high & dry. You can play as many optional players as you wish and in any combination that you choose. The optional players have the same materials and same participation level, but these optional characters are not ‘mandatory’ for the storyline to play out and therefore for the mystery to be sleuthed appropriately. What happens if one of your required characters cancels on you at the last minute? First, take a deep breath…it’s

not the end of the world. Full instructions are in the purchased

game

NAMETAGS the player nametags are below. We suggest that you either print and place into plastic name badges (optional), laminate and punch a hole and use a lanyard to wear around the neck (optional) – or the most economical and trouble-free way is to adhere fabric-safe adhesive (i.e. double-sided Scotch tape) to the back once they are printed.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE HOST Get ready for a smashing party with your purchase of the GRAVESTONE - A WILD WEST MURDER MYSTERY game from mymysteryparty.com! This party is an entertaining and comical mystery where the players act the roles of hilarious Wild West personalities while sleuthing the intriguing story line. This is an excellent choice for your next get together! The party pack (this document) needs to be printed in advance of the party. Cut out the clues, slip them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round, and character for each round of the party. It is optimal to choose different colored envelopes for each round. Please note - the host instructions for each round do not disclose who the murderer is, but do not read nor even look at (because you may read by accident) the Round Three cards if you want to keep the murderer a surprise. (The victim is disclosed in the Round Two clue cards, so don’t look at those, either.)

OPTIONAL PROPS: We also offer mystery props on the My Mystery Party site in the Prop Emporium including authentic crime scene barrier tape, crime scene balloons, Bic mystery investigation pens, white face makeup for the victim, victim t-shirts, etc. These are all optional but are fun enhancements to your night/day of mystery. During the party, your job as the host is to ensure that the envelopes are given to the guests at the appropriate times and most of all—you and your guests are having a blast!

THE GAME IS ORGANIZED INTO FOUR ROUNDS AND IS STRUCTURED AS FOLLOWS:

OPTIONAL PRE-GAME ANNOUNCEMENTS: these optional pre-game announcements are to be delivered to each guest before the party or give them to the guests as they arrive. All pre-game materials are optional and do not alter the mystery and are intended to enhance the pre-game build up for the event. These announcements are not vital to solving the mystery and omission of them does not alter the mystery in any way. ROUND ONE: Deliver these clues as your guests arrive. You can serve appetizers and cocktails for adults. ROUND TWO: Deliver these clues while you serve dinner (optional) to your guests. SOLUTION ROUND THREE: Deliver these clues with coffee/hot cocoa and dessert (again, it’s optional to serve dessert)

Note: you do NOT have to serve dinner/dessert, this is only suggested and the instructions tell you ‘when’ to serve it and what to do around the time you serve it. You can simply skip both without a problem and just serve snacks/appetizers the entire time. However, please don’t have a party without offering some type of food—even if it’s just snacks.

OPTIONAL PRE-GAME ROUND INVITING GUESTS: Before the party, encourage your guests to view the Your Mystery Party —

YourMysteryParty.com/gravestone website & use the free printable My Mystery Party invitations as they have the character descriptions included. This way, before the party, they can get familiar with the other characters that will be at the party, watch the game trailer, and more! There are also hidden/subtle hints about characters throughout the page so those guests who choose to be ‘super sleuths’ can spend some time studying the Your Mystery Party site prior to the party. There are some printable items that you can print off and have at your party, as well – such as wanted signs. The free, downloadable invitations are located on the item page where you first purchased this game - http://www.mymysteryparty.com/wemumypaipar.html Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the link that says ‘free, downloadable invitation’ to download the pdf file. Fill in your information in the text fields and either print or save to your hard drive. You can email these invites to your guests to save paper costs. You will need to enter your information in the text field and save one on your hard drive for each player, changing the character to be played on each invitation. Alternatively, either email this link or use any eVite site and simply include the link to the Your Mystery Party guest invite site at YourMysteryParty.com/gravestone. There are no spoilers on this page for your guests.

Round one - IT’S WILD WEST PARTY TIME! Round one – cocktail hour begins as the guests arrive. DÉCOR: Create a Wild West ambiance with an old west mix CD playing softly, Wild West decor, and any old western movie - preferably black and white - playing on a television in the room without the sound.

Full instructions are in the purchased game

BONUS ACTIVITIES: at any time during your party, you can insert a bonus activity (see bonus activity instructions for more details). You can play before, during or after any round. The key to keeping the mystery momentum is to tell the guests to remain in their character at all times. Breaking character will disrupt the flow of the mystery game’s story line, so it is very important. Bonus activities provide a temporary distraction and keep the energy level high and excitement flowing. Even if you think your guests aren’t the party game types, you should at least try to play one—you’ll be surprised how much they get into it and have a blast. GAME PLAY: When you are ready to start the game, a round one envelope should be handed to each guest. This round is designed for the characters to become acquainted with each other, and the plot will start to unfold as the players discuss the information in their clue cards. Motives will be unveiled and some guests will be instructed to perform certain actions throughout the game. Make sure not to rush this round, as it is actually the most important round. First time hosts tend to rush, so don’t rush your guests this round! It will take time for each guest to make their rounds to speak to everyone and discuss things that they are instructed to discuss as per their clue cards.

ROUND THREE– ‘THE BIG REVEAL’

Full instructions are in the purchased game

FINAL SOLUTIONS: After the accusation round, pass out the round three envelopes to your guests and have them sit in a circle or semi-circle in order to be able to see guests as they read their solution cards one at a time to the group. If you are in a large ballroom / outdoor patio with a microphone and stage/podium – have each guest with a solution card come to the front of the space and use the microphone to reveal their solution (you can also do it this way for the accusation round if you so choose). At this time, you can serve the optional dessert and coffee (or hot cocoa/ hot apple cider/ after dinner cocktails). If this is a birthday party – bring out the cake! Instruct the guests to stand up in front of the group and read (act out) their final solution round card one at a time in the exact order that is directed by the solution round cards. *If you are in a time crunch, have only the required players (#1 - #7) read their solution cards to the group (see below).

HELPFUL HINTS ON HOW TO PLAY A MURDER MYSTERY: GUEST INSTRUCTIONS

So you’ve been assigned a character and you’ve come to the party dressed in the most fabulous costume and have been told to play your role. So now what?

The mystery is separated into three rounds. During the party, you will be handed an envelope that

contains the clues necessary for your character for the round. The clues for all of the required characters provide everything that you need to solve the mystery. However, during the investigation segment of the game, you will need to ask the right questions and pay close attention to everyone’s

clues to be able to get the whole picture of what has happened.

Full instructions are in the purchased

game

From this point forward, you are to remain in character until the mystery is solved. If you are playing a ‘green alien from Mars’, then that is who you are until the end! Undoubtedly, your host has cast you into a character that you are comfortable playing. Some characters are designed to be played more reserved than other characters that should be played more boisterous. Feel free to play your role in

any way that you feel comfortable. Embellish your character’s personality if you would like. However, if you are feeling more reserved tonight, you can opt to allow the other characters to approach you or

you can simply listen in on others’ conversations to get your information.

ROUND one CLUES – cut out, slip into labeled envelopes with the appropriate character and round. to begin round two, pass out these envelopes to the guests.

CHARACTER’S NAME WAS REMOVED – ROUND ONE

CLUES TO REVEAL DURING THIS ROUND During this round, mingle with other guests to discuss the following information with whomever you choose: • Tell Character S that you are simply passing through town and trying to avoid getting picked up for the large reward

on your head. You have no interest in becoming part of The Rancher gang. Now Wylie Arp is in town, law and order will soon follow and that’s how it just always is. Wylie has three brothers and they are all lawmen - and even though Wylie is not an official lawman in Gravestone…he will be soon enough. You are just glad that Wylie doesn’t know your face or he would have already detained you and called for his brothers. You’re here on business and then you’re leaving town and don’t want any trouble. Fellow outlaws should respect each other’s wishes, as that’s the rule of the Wild West.

• Tell Character B that you know that her husband is the one who hid the gold and that he stole it from his tribe in Oklahoma. You’ll help her find the four codes and the map if she will agree to split the gold with you.

• Ask Character X what her problem is with Character N. Tell her that Character N is a nice lady and shouldn’t be treated poorly.

PERSONAL CLUES TO CONCEAL • You are simply here in Gravestone to get your hands on the gold hidden in the Gravestone Cave. You know that

Bella Starry is the key to finding the gold in the cave because some Native American Indians have it out for her head and paid you to find her , find the gold and then murder her and bring her head and the gold back to Oklahoma! They said that her husband who was a member of their tribe is a thief, stole their gold, and hid it in the Gravestone Cave and she is the only key in finding it.

• If any other money-making opportunities arise, you’ll take them as well.

EACH PLAYER WILL HAVE A ROUND ONE CARD IN THE PURCHASED GAME

WANTED POSTER IS INCLUDED IN THE PURCHASED GAME.

ROUND TWO CLUES – cut out, slip into labeled envelopes with the appropriate character and round. to begin round two, pass out these envelopes to the guests.

CHARACTER’S NAME WAS REMOVED – ROUND TWO PRE-MURDER CLUES:

You’re sure that there must be a code hidden somewhere in the saloon. Most everyone in town goes to the saloon every day and whoever hid the codes would have been going to the saloon as well.

Tell a few people that you might have created this Wild Western Show…but you’re not too great of a gun fighter because you have horrible aim. In fact, you’ve never been in a gunfight. You’re glad that you have many skilled people in your show, however. You are an awesome bull rider and a great actor, however, and that is your value to the show.

Ask Wylie Arp if he’s considered becoming the Gravestone sheriff. You’d appreciate a little law enforcement at your two shows in Gravestone and you wouldn’t have come here if you knew that The Ranchers were controlling everything here.

Tell Doc Galaday that his reputation for gun fighting has spread all over the West. He might want to consider a career in law enforcement and you are certain that the mayor would make him sheriff if Wylie doesn’t accept.

POST-MURDER CLUES: You carry two Smith & Wesson Model 3 .44 Caliber Revolvers. You were in the outhouse right before the noise occurred outside and then you entered the saloon

through the back door. You heard the gunshots immediately when you got inside the saloon. Whoever has the biggest motive is most likely the killer.

Say the following to the group: “Character G wanted me to be a Rancher since I’m such a talented gunfighter and outlaw…he did threaten me if I didn’t

take him up on it...but he couldn’t win in a gunfight with me. Who was he foolin’? However, I’m here in Gravestone because I was paid by an Indian Chief in Oklahoma to search for Character P, get her to find the gold in the Gravestone Cave and then bring her head back to her husband’s tribe in punishment for what her husband did…stole their gold. The

Chief said I could have half of the treasure when they got her head. I plan to honor this agreement.” The following characters are to read their solution to the group in any order - once these characters have read

Example Time Line The game can be shortened by excluding the optional activities, or lengthened by adding

more bonus games. 7:00 PM: Guests arrive, have their pictures made (optional) and receive a refreshment / cocktail for adults. The guests will view the guest instructions and character list while they wait for everybody to arrive. The host should build in at least a 10 minute cushion for guests to arrive late. Hey, it happens. 7:10 PM: The host reads the guest instructions to the group. It is optional to have each guest introduce their character in front of the group. Play the video game trailer on Your Mystery Party for your game &/or read the game synopsis from Your Mystery Party to the group to give the premise. 7:20 PM: The Round One envelopes are handed out and the game begins. The guests mingle and reveal the clues on their clue cards. It’s just like a normal party, but the guests remain in character and gossip about each other’s characters. The motives & story lines will start to unveil. 7:50 PM: An optional bonus game is played. Bonus activities keep the energy flowing and the guests have a blast. They are optional, but highly suggested. The players must remain in character. 8:05 PM: Optional to serve dinner. Dinner can be sit down or buffet – or even as simple as a pizza that’s delivered! You can also just serve appetizers/snacks during the party. 8:35 PM: The Round Two envelopes are handed out to the guests and pre-murder clues are discussed. 8:55 PM: The victim becomes the victim and the host passes out the investigation sheets to the players. The guests interrogate each other to determine whodunit. The full story is in the player clue cards, but the guests will have to be skilled at asking the right questions of each other, etc. 9:15 PM: Everybody submits their formal guess of whodunit. 9:20 PM: Optional accusation round – the guests can take turns formally accusing who they think did it, and why. You’ll be surprised at how everybody’s inner actor will surface during this activity. 9:30 PM: Dessert and coffee (optional) are served and the Round Three envelopes are handed out to the guests. The guests sit in a circle and one-by-one, the solutions are revealed by each of the guests and the murderer will confess at the conclusion of the round. The murderer is notified in their round three solution card that they are the murderer. They will not know or have any advantage over anybody of knowing whodunit before this round. *If you do not opt to have the optional players read their final solutions in front of the group, give them a few minutes to mingle and share their solutions after the Rights to the Gold Challenge (see below). 9:50 PM: The Rights to the Gold challenge is played. 10:10 PM: An optional bonus game is played. 10:25 PM: An optional award ceremony. My Mystery Party has award certificates of all kinds that you can choose from in the Prop Emporium. The host can determine who receives the awards while the bonus game is being played. Some awards are traditional and some are snarky but hilarious! 10:30 PM: Game over!
