The StableDRIVE product range is a joint venture between Hardscape Resourcing Limited and Cedar Nursery who have, between them, almost 20 years’ experience in the supply of gravel stabilisation honeycombs and grass reinforcement grids. Throughout that period there has been a process of continual product development and improvement, the benefits of which are evident in the grids available today. Specific panels for particular applications form part of what is offered, so there is always the correct solution from light to heavy duty and for every vehicular or pedestrian need.

For paths, cycle-ways and communal areas. WHAT IS IT? StablePATH ECO is a gravel stabilisation grid for pedestrian only applications. Coloured black with a double strength weed suppressant membrane attached to the base, StablePATH ECO offers an ideal combination of permeable performance, economy and productivity. The panel is produced in a light weight, user friendly size of 1.200 x 0.800 mtr x 30 mm deep, which is very easily cut to shape. Panels have interconnecting location pins, which aid accuracy and speed of installation. Applications are primarily pedestrian, although the grids are strong enough to withstand regular traffic use from landscape and maintenance equipment.

LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT (Breeam compatibility): StablePATH ECO is manufactured from 100% re-cycled raw material. The panels themselves and any off cuts can be fully recycled, which leads to an ultra-low carbon footprint in manufacture, use and disposal. StablePATH lends itself to utilising locally sourced or re-cycled aggregates, further enhancing the products environmental credentials. Low gravel demand of 55kg – 65 kg per sq. metre utilises much less material than unreinforced gravel options or bound surfaces.

WHAT DOES IT DO? StablePATH ECO provides a truly permeable reinforcement for gravels and pathway fills, which offers a natural alternative to resin bonded surfaces, asphalt, concrete or pavers. The honeycomb structure reinforces the aggregate layer, which prevents rutting, spreading and migration of the chippings. Suitable for all pedestrian uses, such as paths, patios, roof gardens, quadrangles and leisure areas, StablePATH ECO creates a solid, permeable, wheelchair and bicycle friendly surface. Very competitively priced, without compromise on durability, StablePATH ECO is tested to the same standards as the other reinforcing grids in the StableDRIVE range. It is fast and easy to install, making this the ideal solution where budget considerations are paramount.

For residential drives, paths and patios. WHAT IS IT? StablePAVE TRADE is a gravel stabilisation panel complete with double strength weed suppressant membrane attached to the base. Designed for residential landscapers and paving contractors, the panel is produced in a user friendly size of 1.200 mtr x 0.800 mtr x 30 mm deep, or 40mm deep for the Trade 40 product, which is very easily cut to shape. It is fully tested for compressive loadings of 130 tonnes per sq. mtr (63kN) when empty and 400 tonnes per sq. mtr (193kN) when filled with gravel. UV resistance is incorporated into the formulation at industry leading levels.

LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT (Breeam compatibility): StablePAVE TRADE is manufactured from 100% recycled raw material. The material can be fully re-cycled in itself which leads to an ultra-low carbon footprint in manufacture, use and disposal. The system lends itself to utilising locally sourced or re-cycled aggregates (where appropriate) so carbon miles can be minimised. Even where imported aggregates are preferred, the low gravel demand of 55 – 65 kg per sq. metre utilises much less material than unreinforced gravel options or bound surfaces.

WHAT DOES IT DO? StablePAVE TRADE provides a free draining, permeable paving layer for residential driveways, paths and patios. The honeycomb prevents rutting, spreading and gravel migration. Additionally the honeycomb structure reinforces the gravel layer to give paving layer strength comparable to concrete or asphalt. The panels have a connector pin to facilitate secure location of the panels which assists fast and accurate placement. The finished surface is suitable for vehicle, pedestrian and wheelchair use. StablePAVE TRADE is an economical paving choice for residential applications combining durability, unlimited choice of aggregate finish, permeability and fast installation. Very competitively priced, without compromise on durability, StablePAVE TRADE is tested to the same standards as the other reinforcing grids in the StableDRIVE range. It is fast and easy to install, making this the ideal solution where budget considerations are paramount.

Suitable for light vehicle and pedestrian use, together with occasional access for heavier delivery, emergency or utility transport, the XL gravel stabilisation grid provides a free draining, permeable paving layer. Supplied with a weed suppressant membrane attached to the base, StablePAVE XL reinforcing grids are easily cut to shape, with minimal waste.

LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT (Breeam compatibility): The grids are manufactured from 70% re-cycled and 30% prime raw material. XL panels and off cuts can be re-cycled themselves, which leads to an ultra-low carbon footprint in manufacture, use and disposal. Reduced gravel consumption compared to unreinforced or bound surfaces further improves the environmental benefits. As such, StablePAVE XL can contribute significantly to the “Green” credentials of any self-build, heritage or communal paving requirements.

WHAT DOES IT DO? XL grids contain, control and stabilise the gravel fill, preventing spreading, rutting or sinking. The result is a foot, vehicle and wheelchair friendly surface which is practical, durable and capitalises on the natural beauty aggregates. All the traditional benefits of a gravel surface are retained whilst the associated upkeep and renewal issues are eliminated. Gravel demand at 75kg per sq. metre, which will bury the honeycomb grid to the correct depth, makes StablePAVE XL an

Frequently Asked Questions What size gravel can you use? See the table opposite Does it drain? Yes, water simply runs through the gravel and honeycomb – all products are completely porous.

How do you edge it? 1. Brick & Cement 2. Haunched concrete 3. Tanalised timber 4. Tarmacadam (for ramping to existing surfaces)

How long does it last? We have seen applications in Holland which have been laid for approx. 25 years and are still being used. The product is UV stable, and is resistant to most chemicals.

Can you drive cars on this? Yes (although only light traffic on StablePATH ECO) with the correct sub-base (75mm to 200mm of hard-core / crushed concrete) and 25mm to 50mm of compacted sharp sand. The product will withstand occasional large lorries such as removal lorries, horse boxes, skip lorries and oil deliveries.

Can you use it on a slope? Gentle slopes are OK; (up to 1 in 10) you must maintain the area by raking the gravel. If the honeycomb can be seen, this is when damage occurs.

Can you install it on an old drive / concrete base? We do not recommend that you use the existing drive as a sub-base for the these products as this can cause drainage problems with non-porous materials.

Where are these made? All products are made in the UK or mainland Europe

Are they frost proof / heat proof? Yes, to approx. -43C and +80C

What maintenance do I need to carry out? Ensure that the honeycomb is always covered with a thin layer of gravel (approx. 10-20mm). If you can see the honeycomb this is when it can become damaged. You may need to top up the gravel on heavily trafficked areas.

SUB BASE & INSTALLATION GUIDELINES Stabilised Gravel Paving Stabilised gravel honeycombs elements should be placed on suitable, compacted previously constructed sub base (see below for sub

base options) Sub base should receive a lightly compacted blinding layer of up to 25-30 mm of grit sand or limestone/granite fines. Units should be bedded onto blinded surface, in a flat layer, to a slight fall if required. Stabilised gravel honeycombs units are then overfilled with selected gravel to a recommended depth. Gravel requirement will be 55 kg and 65kg per sq. metre depending on system used. After fill, surface should receive a misting of water to wash through any residual surface fines and then accelerate consolidation by a single pass with a plate vibrator or similar light compaction aid. NOTES - SUB BASE OPTIONS: a. For most applications including pedestrian, light vehicle and occasional access by emergency and utility traffic, sub base should com-

prises of 10 cm of fully compacted type 1 sub base, with a 25-30mm blinding layer.

b. For regular heavier vehicle access and heavy traffic areas, such as car parks.15cm of fully compacted type 1 sub base, with a 25-30mm blinding layer

c. For domestic, pedestrian only applications it is possible to set the units onto compacted earth, followed by a sand blinding layer. d. For fully permeable paving, or water harvesting applications make up should be: Earth fully compacted Layer of geotextile 25 -27.5 cm of single size filter media gravel, compacted in layers. Geotextile layer Sand/fines bedding layer Stabilised gravel honeycombs panels filled to required depth and finished as per recommendations above.

15

Step 1. The panels are placed on the prepared sub base.

Each product has either projecting flaps of membrane (Subsequent panels should be laid on these overlaps to inhibit weed growth between

trays) or an integral clipping system.

Step 2. The retaining edging keeps the panels in place.

All our systems can be cut easily with a power or hand saw to conform to any shape required.

Step 3. The vehicles / wheelbarrows used to deliver the

gravel can be driven over the filled panels. The most effective way of filling them is from the

front. This helps to compact the gravel already laid with each subsequent trip.

Step 4. The gravel is then simply spread out across the honeycombs with an overfill of approximately 10 to 20 mm to protect the panels and conceal

them from sight.
