Hello! My name is Donovan Byfield and I am an inde-pendent designer and illustrator who collaborates with small companies, design firms and ad agencies to create communication solutions that have simple messages, smart concepts, and bold executions. I was raised by a very strict father and an overly loving mom in Worcester County, Massachusetts. I think the combi-nation of the two provided a very important unique-ness about my character, which gave me the mental balance and integrity, that I take pride in today.
I attended WITI in September of 1992 Massachusetts. During my tenure at WITI, I majored in commercial arts and illustration. I then got my first job in the advertising field at O’Coin’s Home Brands in 1994, and ever since I have been, in some shape or form associated with art, Pre-Press production or Advertised design.

This was a state-of-the-art Adult entertainment night club, which held private functions for every possible occasion. My duties included, video surveillance, Auditioning and creation of advertising layouts to be placed within Extreme Magazine. I was also in charge of creating flyers, bumper stickers, T-shirts.
During my tenure within this company, I was able to produce a variety of publications from booklets to posters and flyers, as well as newspaper and magazine advertising. They allotted a large amount of free will to determine layout, design and con-tent of each project. Before press I would review the market-ing execution and provide feedback and recommendations.
This company is an Investment group that buys and Sells Real estate. They also provide management options for property owners. My daily tasks are showing units, clerical work, evictions and creation of spot advertising for the local telegram.
It was at this company that I learned the art of flexography. They specialized in direct print using vellum. My primary obligation was to create artwork for Diecut displays and RSC containers, which entailed some Pre-Press work as well; As once the art was approved, the files were Color corrected, Trapped, Ripped and a distortion factor was added to run on the appropriate Press.
Being a major distributor in the region, only second to Jordans furniture; This giant outlet sold house hold names such as, Sony, lane, Sealy, Moose Head and Clayton Marcus. I was employed to Brain storm, create and deliver weekly ROP Ads

Since 1993, when I became a retail advertising designer, I developed and improved my organizational skills; by working together with a team of sales and marketing staff, that helped me be the best I could possibly be in a field that had little room for error.
This entree level position had its obstacles. All too often the chal-lenge was to be able to coordinate post production work and supervise press runs; in order to keep high standards of execution and cost effectiveness within a given amount of time. Coordination between the design team and the sales team was crucial and I gained experience working on real world design issues with my team ; and helped maintain the highest level of quality possible within our dept.
