PRESIDENT, 2012-2013 STUDENT BAR ASSOCIATION

J.D. Candidate, 2013Santa Clara University School of Law

SCU Law Friends,

Congratulations to all the officers on the newly elected 2013-2014 SBA Executive Board! I am excited to see such a strong group of individuals take the reigns to keep moving our Student Bar Association forward.

In other news, the Dean search process is almost complete.

Our final Dean Candidate visit will be this Monday, April 1st at 4:30 PM in Bannan 135. Our final candidate is Lisa Kloppenburg, a professor and former Dean of the University of Dayton, Ohio.

http://www.udayton.edu/directory/law/kloppenberg_lisa.php

Following that, the SBA will host two forums for students to discuss all the Dean candidates on April 3rd at 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM in Bannan 139. All student input I receive at these final forums and in the student surveys will be adopted into the final committee report submitted to the SCU President and Provost to help guide their hiring decision.

If you cannot attend either of the forums, please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] with any input you have on the candidates so I can include it in my final report.

All Previous Dean Candidate Video Sessions can be Found Here: http://claranet.scu.edu/eres/coursepage.aspx?cid=3730&page=docsThe case-sensitive password to get into the folder is "DeanFinalists2013".

Thank you for your continued participation as we help shape the future of our law school.

Best,

Grant Atkinson

SCU PROFESSOR, SHIRI KREBSPREVENTATIVE DETENTION

Imagine you are being arrested for a crime you have never committed. Now imagine there's absolutely nothing wrong with this proposition: you are rather being arrested for a crime the State believes you may commit sometime in the future...Join Prof. Shiri Krebs as she explores current dilemmas associated with preventive detention regimes: transparency v. secrecy; intelligence information v. strict rules of evidence; law of war v. criminal law; Guantanamo detainees, the war on terror and more.
