Home Visiting Programs

• The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law on March 23, 2010.

• The Act included amending Title V of the Social Security Act by adding Section 511 titled “Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Programs.”

(1) To strengthen and improve the programs and activities carried out under the title;

Improved maternal and newborn health

Prevention of child injuries, child abuse, neglect, or maltreatment, and reduction in emergency department visits

Improvement in school readiness and achievement

Reduction in crime or domestic violence

Improvements in family economic self-sufficiency

Improvements in the coordination and referrals for other community resources and supports

Child health and development including prevention of child injuries and maltreatment and improvements in cognitive, language, social, emotional and physical development indicators;

Parenting skills;

Reduction of crime or domestic violence;

School readiness and child academic achievement;

The socioeconomic status of such families;

Coordination of referrals and provision of community resources and supports.

the potential of programs to improve healthcare system quality and efficiencies

the potential of programs to reduce costs
