The operations and support functions of the current central
hospital are transferred to the new hospital in Jyväskylä. The
objective is to implement an energy- and life cycle-efficient,
versatile and adaptable central hospital unit compatible with
a new way of operation centred around the patient. The
hospital of 100,000 square metres (gross floorspace) is now
being planned.
Kuopio University Hospital, Kaarisairaala, Kuopio

The planning of Kaarisairaala was based on population needs,
new ways of operation, and the new premises required for
these. A great deal of attention was also paid to hospital
automation and new technology, flexible adaptability and the
smoothness of treatment processes. The site of 35,000 square
metres was taken into use in May 2015.

Tampere University Hospital 2020 renovation programme, Tampere

The objective of the renovation programme implemented
in 2012–2020 is to ensure the development of the University
Hospital area as an entity. The programme includes new build-
ings and complete renovations of old hospital wings.
Seinäjoki Central Hospital, Y building

The Y Building provides the setting for modern hospital treat-
ment, emergency care, examinations and rehabilitation. The
design addressed user-driven needs and aimed to ensure
the adaptability of the facilities. The project of 33,700 square
metres was carried out in 2007–2013.
Turku University Hospital, T Hospital and extension of T Hospital
● Fixed medical equipment
The T Hospital provides a highly modern hospital build-
ing for the Hospital District of Southwest Finland. The T
Hospital houses demanding intensive care services, control
operations and specialised healthcare for the entire area of
Southwest Finland. The project of 108,000 square metres
was carried out in 2000–2012.
Ratamo Centre, Kouvola

The Ratamo project aims to integrate basic healthcare services,
social services and specialised healthcare into one functioning
whole. This model attempts to meet the needs of the ageing
population and the growth in their service requirements. The
new Ratamo model brings services under one roof. The proj-
ect of 36,000 square metres is now being planned.
The new Children's Hospital, Helsinki

The aim of the new Children's Hospital is to be the best
children's hospital in the world. It will provide state-of-the-
art treatment in a cosy, safe, adaptable and energy-efficient
environment. The hospital of 45,000 square metres (gross
floorspace) is being planned and should be completed in 2017.

Energy-efficiency and alternative energy forms were widely
explored in connection with the renovation of the 18-storey
tower hospital that has a prominent position in the cityscape,
as well as great cultural and historic value. The 35,600 m²
project was planned in 2009–2015.
