As a Columbus resident, I am very proud of our zoo and always recommend a visit to anyone that is visiting to experience the zoo. In closing, I would like to offer a reminder to everyone to stay diligent and continue to carry on our UCT tradition. Now, more than ever, we need to be the beacons of light in our community. We need to insure that future generations live in communities that we helped to improve. There are many distractions for young families and youths today, but the one legacy we can hope to provide is a kind a loving community. It is up to each and every one of us to strive to make our community something we are proud of now and in the future. Fraternally yours, Dave Van Order Grand Counselor

(Regional Vice President)

Message Hello to all my brothers and sisters! Hope everyone is managing this crazy spring weather we have been experiencing and hoping that the normal will be showing soon. When I decided to run for the Grand Counselor four years ago, a big part of this decision was the love that I have from all my brothers & sisters and to follow in the footsteps of a very special person to me: my dad, Homer Huprich. WOW, it’s hard to believe that four years have passed and the time has come for me to become the Grand Counselor of Ohio. I remember when I chose to step up and get installed as the Grand Conductor and being told by many, these four years will go by very quick. They were so right and I’m very excited to be taking this journey with all of my brothers and sisters by my side. Alan and I are very excited for the upcoming year to bring our family values to serve as the Grand Counselor and Paving the Way to UCT. I have chosen “Paving the Way to UCT” to get more involvement and to keep the fraternalism growing within our brothers & sisters and the retention of UCT for many more years.

I am so excited to say that Rick Gruszecki has accepted to be my membership director and I know that he will do an awesome job in helping me achieve the goal to keep UCT growing, as he has in the past. I’m also working on my committees for the upcoming 2016-2017 year and will have it finalized before the upcoming convention for David Van Order. I’m looking forward to the convention in June, as we will celebrate a great leader and I know that I have some big shoes to fill, but the support team that I have will make this year a bit easier to achieve our goal. My hotel chairmen, Rick and Ron have been busy this year planning the 2017 Grand Convention that will be held at the Holiday Inn, Boardman, Ohio. I will have more details to share with you all later in the year when we have more finalized details. (Cont.)

Alan and I look forward to attending as many functions as possible to share great times and create awesome memories. Thank you all for your love and support during this exciting journey and looking forward to seeing everyone in Columbus at the Ohio Grand Convention and my installation. Best regards,

Lee Ann Firestone

Grand Junior Counselor

***************************** Grand Membership Director

Message Grand Counselor Dave Van Order membership year is coming to a close on March 31st,2016. Dave and I hope this past year has been "The Change You Hope For" in your council awareness in your local community. When Brother Dave asked me to be his membership director, he expressed a desire to not only go after members and retention but to stress or develop the awareness of UCT by local councils involvement in their community. The Medal Of Honor Program which was introduced in 1994 and updated in 2011 to include community award with recognition awards was a perfect solution. The projects you choose not only are a worthwhile cause, but unites UCT members with other community members in a common goal of "People helping People”. By building on the medal of honor concept, that helps to grow the UCT Awareness. Dave and I want to thank you, for writing new members, retaining members and working on attaining a Medal of Honor award level. Those of you who obtained an award level have until May 1st to send in to Ann Marshall at home office. The Grand Convention will be held at Embassy Suites in Columbus Ohio North East on June 8th thru 11th. Dave and I would like to invite you to attend the convention and be a part of membership awards at Friday night banquet. (Cont.)

In closing I would like to thanks Dave for this opportunity to serve as his Grand Membership Director. I would also like to wish incoming Grand Counselor Lee Ann Firestone success in her membership year. Her theme is "Paving the Way to UCT”. Fraternally,

Rick Gruszecki- PGC

Grand Membership Director

This part of the “Journey” is

coming to an end! First, let Phyllis and I say “Thank you” for all the support, encouragement, and friendship given to us from our brothers and sisters of the Ohio Grand. We look forward to our Ohio Grand Convention this June 9, 10, and 11th in Columbus, Ohio. It has been a wonderful journey for us as we approach the Supreme Session in Louisville, KY., July 3rd thru July 6, 2016. What can we say about the fellow offices and spouses we have served with during the past six years. We have had the opportunity to travel throughout the United States and Canada as representatives of U.C.T. and we were encouraged by the fraternalism and community service projects we witnessed during our travels. Yes, our “Journey” is coming to an end; however, U.C.T. can still be a force. Yes, there is still a lot of work to do, and if I may, Regional Director, Tom Heaton from the Alpha Jurisdiction gave Phyllis and I gift and it said, “We Can, We Will, We Must”. This is so true. Mark your calendar and join Phyllis and I in Louisville. Be present as Gordon Woodworth is installed as the new International President as U.C.T. continues moving forward with his theme, “Lighting our Future”. Until the next time,

David and Phyllis Burt

On Thursday at the opening ceremony Grand Counselor David is asking all in attendance to be part of the Flag Day program. To: All Ohio Grand members Re: Flag ceremonies at Ohio Grand Session I would like to ask once again for your help in honoring Old Glory and deceased veterans. The Ohio Grand is pairing with Ohio Cremation and Memorial Society and collecting old, worn American Flags for use in the cremation of veterans of the United States armed forces. Ohio Cremation uses older flags that are not suitable for display as drapes for veterans who have chosen cremation. This allows for the retirement of a flag in a most dignified manner and honors both the veteran’s service to the country and the American Flag. I cannot think of a more noble retirement of a flag than to drape a veteran. I would ask that you gather your unusable American Flags and arrange for them to be turned over to Ohio Cremation at our Grand Session opening ceremonies on June 9. We will have Beth Buxton, the Ohio Cremation & Memorial Society funeral director, on hand to explain how our flag donation will honor our veterans as well as describing proper flag retirement. I would hope that we can gather quite a few Old Glory’s to provide for this most honorable deed! Sincerely, Dave Van Order
