Grand Rapids Public Museum ArtPrize Venue Information 2017

ScheduleDeliveries & Installations: September 8 – 18, 2018 (Sept.7th- limited). Deliveries to be scheduled through the Museum, unscheduled deliveries will not be accepted.Uninstall: October 8-15, 2018ArtPrize runs September 19 – October 7, 2018

Installation Information and RequirementsThese are our venue requirements, but due to the potential uniqueness of certain artwork, some items are subject to the negotiated contract between the GRPM and the artist.

• All installations must be approved by the GRPM prior to starting. GRPM reserves the right to determine final placement. GRPM reserves the right to reject installation if methods do not conform to approved procedures.

• Artists are responsible for installing their own artwork. All works must be ready for presentation upon delivery.

• Artists must have their own pedestal if one is required for their piece. Work must be stable and ready for display. All installation systems and timetables must be approved by GRPM.

• Artists are required to bring their own installation tools, or the Artist can hire a qualified art installer approved by GRPM. Tools will not be provided by the Museum. (We would recommend West Shore Services. They have helped many our ArtPrize artists in the past. http://www.westshoreservices.com/contact/index.html)

• Artist should bring their own moving equipment (carts, etc.)

• Individual artists are responsible for any lighting that their piece requires.

• If the artist desires stanchions/barriers around their work, it is their responsibility to get the Museum’s approval of chosen barriers, then provide and install them.

• Unfortunately, the Museum does not have storage space available beyond the space needed for the artists’ business/postcards.

• The artist will be responsible for returning the display site to its original state.

• If artists would like to come see the space, they may make an appointment with their Museum contact.

• Artist’s promotional material will be limited to a MUSEUM PROVIDED 1” deep standard business card holder and/or a 5” x 7” x 2” deep postcard holder. This is our attempt to keep the exhibit neat & unified. These will be attached to the

Artist label stands.

• The Museum is not responsible for insuring individual works of art, but the artist may do so.

• The Museum is now home to the Grand Rapids Public Museum School. Due to the nature of our venue, any Artist exhibiting at this venue must agree to allow for a background check.

• You may choose to allow your ArtPrize submission to be for sale. Once the Museum invites you to display your piece, you will be asked to complete a Hosting Agreement/Contract, where you will supply a sales price INCLUDING a 30% Museum sale commission.

• An artist may submit to sell other work through the Museum’s gift shop with a 40% commission going to the Museum. This must be prearranged and accepted by the Museum’s gift shop manager. If you wish to do so, please let your venue contact know, and they will put you in touch with the gift shop manager. (Be prepared to provide photos, and info about quantity, materials, size and selling prices - which should INCLUDE the commission).

FAQs

Does the Artist have to be here? No, the artist does not have to be present during the run of ArtPrize. In past years, there were some artists who chose to be here often - and some that chose not to be here at all.

ArtPrize voting number?Your voting number will come from the ArtPrize organization after the artist and the Museum “secure” the match on the ArtPrize website.

If an artist is making business cards or postcards, how many should the artist have made? There is no way for us to provide an accurate number. ArtPrize has regularly drawn crowds of at least 400,000 people to the various venues around town, and the amount of cards each artist goes through varies wildly. The Artists are ultimately responsible for deciding how many cards they have made and for keeping their own holders full. We will have volunteers replenishing the Artist’s card holders occasionally, however many artists choose to refill their holders themselves, or make personal arrangements to have them refilled more frequently.

Note: It is also in the Artist’s best interest to have the Grand Rapids Public Museum’s name, address and logo printed on their promotional material, along with their ArtPrize #. The Museum will provide artists with the logo file upon request.

Do I have to make my own label? No. The ArtPrize organization will be creating/providing the label using the title of the work, the artist’s name and voter id number obtained from the ArtPrize website.
