Grand pianos come in various dimensions. That’s why it is very important to know how to choose the proper size of it. Since grand pianos are available in many different colors, styles, and sizes. On the other hand, the most important characteristic to look when buying for grand pianos is their dimensions. These musical instruments are made somewhat the same upright pianos are built. However, the big difference between the two is the size.

According to dimensions, grand pianos come in three different types which include the Concert Grand, Parlor Grand, and the common Baby Grand.

Concert Grand

This is the largest among grand pianos which has dimensions of about 9 feet in length. When it comes to power, the Concert Grand is considered to be the most powerful due to its size. The sound that this grand piano produces is characterized to be full and heavy making it fill even a large concert hall. Its large soundboard and lengthier strings as well contribute to the power of its sound. Its big size and superior sound make it perfect for serious pianists especially for huge performances in larger venues such as concert halls.

Parlor Grand

Parlor grand pianos or the ‘living room grand pianos” are the middle-sized pianos and they typically measure about 5 to 7 feet in length. In sound, this size of grand piano can also deliver a tone well but not as good as what concert grand's can produce. Parlor grand's are common in homes which have an ample space for this beautiful musical instrument. Moreover, most churches schools and conservatories use this grand piano type because of its size which is not so big and not so small. Parlor grand pianos can be used in various places because of size that is just right.

Baby Grand

This third type of grand piano according to size is considered to be the smallest among the grand pianos and considered also to be the most popular. When it comes to tone, because of the size, baby grand pianos do not produce a sound as rich and full as what concert grand's and parlor grand's do. Due to the fact that the tone and sound depends on the size of the soundboard and length of the strings of a grand piano, baby grand pianos are usually considered to be inferior to the other sizes. Nevertheless, they are just ideal for people who are looking for affordable pianos as well those who have got limited space at home. Baby grand pianos can fit easily in homes such as apartments because of its more compact dimension.
