Under 11s GRAND FINAL - St Christopher’s 4-119 (25 overs) def Revesby Workers 113 (48 overs)

MyCricket scorecard

Johnstone Reserve was the venue for our semi final loss last year when Bankstown Sports saw us off. So we returned there with mixed feelings to face the only other U11 team in the competition, Revesby Workers, in the final.

We lost the toss but got what we wanted, a bat. Openers Josh Agius and Harry Divan got us off to a bright start before Harry was out for 8 to a good catch down the leg side. Captain Matthew Fitzgerald then joined Josh at the crease and put on a quick fire 54 run partnership before Josh was run out for 23 valuable runs.

Luca Croft joined Matthew who soon reached 30 and retired, a captain’s knock if ever there was one. Kai Allie came to the crease and he and Luca took the score past 100 after just 21 overs before Luca was caught for 15. We finished on 4 for 119 after our 25 overs with Kai 6 n.o. and Zach Agius 7 n.o.

Workers batted with respect for the bowling which, for the most part, was tight. They did not lose a wicket or offer any chances on day one but scored slowly, finishing on 0 for 57 after their first 25 overs. But when they resumed on Sunday morning the pressure was on and cracks began to appear. Their openers put on 63 but a sharp throw from Kai brought the early breakthrough we needed, a run out. The other opener went soon after.

Then Tristan Otomancek removed danger man Luke Tiberti for 9, thanks to the catch of the season by Luca Croft at square leg. Kristian & Max Zanbaka chimed in with a wicket each and the wheels were looking wobbly as Workers lost 3 for 1 to be 5 for 85.

With their customary pluck, Workers showed they were not done yet … but neither were Saints. Luca picked up a wicket and then Josh and Matthew cleaned up the tail with two wickets each. They were well supported by accurate bowling from Harley Cutting (4 overs, 3 maidens, 0 for 1) and Harry Divan (4 overs, 3 maidens, 0 for 3). Workers all out for 113, falling just short of making us bat again.

Our best batting performance of the year was matched by our work in the field. Nothing seems to get past Reagan Sidhu in the gully who also troubles batsmen with his loopy leg breaks. Then there were the catches. As well as Luca’s two grabs, great catches were taken by Josh (at the wicket), Kai (sharp chance behind square), Tristan (a high one and under pressure as the bowler was closing in fast), Harley (moving quickly at mid wicket) and Harry (diving forward in the circle).

At the presentation we were proud to hear the umpire, Victor Gauci, congratulate both teams on the standard of their play and their sportsmanship. We were even happier to lift the Shield.

The win was a just reward for all the hard work that has been put in by each player this year and, indeed, for the support that the parents have given their sons and the team. Thanks to you all and congratulations to the boys on a well deserved premiership … and a memorable, if melodically challenged, rendition of ‘When the Saints go marching in’. Batting: Matthew Fitzgerald 30 ret.not out, Josh Agius 23, Luca Croft 15

Bowling: Matthew Fitzgerald 2/1 (including 4 maidens), Josh Agius 2/13, Zach Agius 1/5, Luca Croft 1/9, Kristian Zanbaka 1/13, Tristan Otomancek 1/13, Max Zanbaka 1/16 Player of the Match: Matthew Fitzgerald

Under 12s Semi Final - St Christopher’s 4-241 def Milperra Vikings 119

MyCricket scorecard

A great result in our sudden death semi-final means the Under 12s remain alive for another week in pursuit of another premiership.

Milperra must have surely regretted the decision to send us in as Baha and Daniel tore the bowling attack apart. At one stage we were scoring at over six an over as Baha was particularly destructive on any loose deliveries, plundering fours on both sides of the field. After Baha and Daniel retired on 51, Paddy and Mitchell continued their great combination with scores of 37 and 21 respectively to mount a daunting total of 241 off just 45 overs.

The best observation of our bowling performance was that the wickets were shared between seven bowlers. Particular praise must go to Scotty Beattie who took two wickets in his first game with the Under 12’s. Paddy also bowled beautifully, being denied a hat trick by a most unhelpful umpire who turned down a very good shout for LBW on the hat trick ball.

There were still too many wides and no-balls from the team overall if we want to pressure the top two teams over the coming weeks and we must train hard to improve our accuracy.

A big congratulations to the Under 11’s who completed a fantastic year with a well deserved premiership. Batting: Baha Dadarkar 51 ret. no.o., Daniel Louka 51 ret. n.o., Patrick Forrester 37, Mitchell Rowles 22

Bowling: Scott Beattie 2/5, Patrick Forrester 2/5, Lachie Burke 2/7, Thomas Beattie 1/7, Cooper Sutton 1/9, Mitchell Rowles 1/11, Lucas McAndrew 1/15 Player of the Match: Baha Dadarkar & Paddy Forrester

Under 13s Semi Final - Panania EH RSL 6-183 def St Christopher’s 110

MyCricket scorecard

We probably performed below our best in this one. We won the toss and our captain Ryan Klem decided to bowl. Only having 10 players registered this year meant the bowling had to be good and for the first hour it was. But like all year, our fielding let us down. The boys are capable but don’t apply themselves for the whole match and drop concentration.

As the morning rolled on, wides and no balls crept in and we started to give away too many cheap runs. We gave them 50 runs in extras which was really disappointing. Caleb Divan 3/35 and Nicholas Otomancek 2/13 were really good.

They finished on 6/183 which was going to be a hard chase.

We lost early wickets which made it too tough to chase down. Connor Bryce, Jarrod Vangent, Liam Parsons and Marcus Spaits all did well. Liam looked really good which was great as he has the potential to be a really good all rounder.

The season has been tough due to playing short every week, but I have seen improvement in all the players which is all you want. If we can get a couple more players, the boys will win more than they lose. They just have to work on the fielding aspect of the game. Batting: Liam Parsons 22, Jarrod Vangent 14

Bowling: Caleb Divan 8 overs 3 for 35, Nicholas Otomancek 4 overs 2 for 13 Player of the Match: Caleb Divan

Under 16s Semi Final - Milperra Vikings 3-92 def St Christopher’s 89

MyCricket scorecard

We won the toss and elected to bat. We were in a good position at 3 for 72 with Ben batting well. With a blink of an eye, we lost both Ben and Tom on the same score and were now 5 for 72, and quickly folded to be all out for 89.

Ben and Ethan Burke put on 35 for the second week partnership.

The opposition got off to a good start considering they were only chasing 90 to win. They lost their first wicket at 28, with a caught and bowled to Jonathan. Ben picked up the second wicket with some good tight bowling caught by Raul, and Tom finished with the last wicket to fall with an LBW.

I’m sure the boys understand that they need to lift if they are to win this week in the preliminary final and have another crack at Milperra in the GF.

Good luck boys. Batting: Ben Butler 48

Bowling: Ben Butler 1/11, Tom Tiberti 1/12, Jonathan Delinicolis 1/15 Player of the Match: Ben Butler

C Grade Semi Finals - Revesby Workers 0-50 def St Christopher’s 47

MyCricket scorecard

No match report necessary, suffice to say we saved our worst performance for last.

Despite the heavy defeat in the PF, C Grade can be very proud of what it achieved this year. Having formed last year, the team really started to gel, turning in some amazing performances with both bat and ball.

But even when the team suffered defeats, it did so with good grace and sportsmanship. Some great cricket was played but plenty of good time was also spent over drinks after each match. It was certainly one of my highlights of the week.

And at the end of the day, we achieved our goal. We did better than last year, but not too well that would see us bumped up a grade!

Fellas, it was a pleasure. Hope to see you all back next year. Player of the Match: The post-match beers

B Grade Semi Final - St Christopher’s 154 def Revesby Workers 112

MyCricket scorecard

Probably had one of our worst batting performances of the year where we just didn’t bat time and tried to score too quickly. We only had 3 batsmen that faced more than 20 balls.

Our top 5 batsmen all failed, Divan (11), Lambley (5), A Khoury (1), C Phelps (11), Wise (15) and we were 5/64. What was needed was a partnership and Luke Stocks and Peter Solway gave as an 82 run partnership. Both batted beautifully but Solway looked fantastic. Once we lost Stocks with the score on 146, we then had another batting collapse and finished on 154. It looked well below par so we had to fire with the ball.

We had an hour and a half at them. We bowled great lines and put lots of pressure on in the field. Lambley and Andrew Phelps had them 4 for 5. They put on a 59 run partnership and we needed a breakthrough. Stocksy came into the attack and took 3 wickets in the last 20 minutes and they finished the day on 7 for 70 - still needing 80 with 3 wickets in hand.

Day 2 started well with a great caught behind by Ben Nennas off Lambley but Tilly, their only batsman of note, was still in. We gave him a single and put the pressure on the other batsman. We took the last 2 wickets and they finished 10/110.

Great effort winning a game under pressure. We have to be smarter with the bat. Our bowling and fielding has been improving all year. Just need to make sure our batting, which has been or strength, stays strong.

Panania 1 this week in a PF…. we should be very confident we can get the job done ! Batting: Pete Solway 55, Luke Stocks 38

Bowling: Mick Lambley 4/24, Luke Stocks 3/15 Player of the Match: Luke Stocks
