DESCRIPTIONGranary Cottage is of Cotswold Stone construction under a pitched tiled roof. The property is in the curtilage of the Grade II Listed Ford Farmhouse, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Conservation Area. This barn is believed to date back to the early 1800’s. It was converted in 1985, and has been let on a long term basis for the last 30 years. This property is being sold with vacant possession. This would make a superb home, second home or letting opportunity.
SITUATION AND AMENITIESFord is a Cotswold hamlet comprising of period and contemporary cottages and houses situated in a lovely rolling region of the Cotswolds, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This hamlet has an excellent public house called The Plough, which is very popular, and lies only a short distance from Broadway, Winchcombe and Stow on the Wold. National Hunt Racing as Jackdaws Castle National Hunt training yard with Jonjo O’Neill is across the road and the popular Plough Pub is a short walk away. Neighbouring Temple Guiting offers a fine old Parish Church, a superb village store with coffee shop, village hall and playing fields. Guiting Power, with a busy community including the history society, has a beautiful 12th Century Church, village hall and playing field. There is also a village shop with post office and a café and a wonderful bakery.
There are two pubs in the village, The Farmers Arms and Hollow Bottom which has recently re-opened after extensive refurbishment. These North Cotswold villages, which also include Naunton and Cutsdean, are renowned for a friendly, supportive community and offer excellent pubs and a number of successful National Hunt racing yards, which adds to the character of the area. Adam Henson’s Cotswold Farm Park also offers a café, attracting many younger visitors throughout the year. This immediate area also benefits from the excellent network of footpaths and bridleways linking all these lovely villages, winding through mature woodlands and across the undulating landscape.
More extensive shopping is available nearby in the pretty market towns of Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, and Winchcombe, while a few miles further off, the elegant centres of Cheltenham and Oxford provide still more comprehensive shopping and leisure options as does Stratford-upon-Avon which hosts The Royal Shakespeare Company.
Communications in the area are excellent, with London easily accessible via the A40/M40, and a mainline railway service to London Paddington from both Kingham and Moreton-in-Marsh within a twenty-minute drive from the house.
Sports and leisure facilities include golf at Naunton Downs and Cheltenham. For lovers of the turf, there are famous racecourses such as Cheltenham as well as Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick.
There is a popular primary school (OFSTED- good) in neighbouring Temple Guiting and a new Montesorri Nursery in Guiting Power. A bus to the very popular Cotswold School (OFSTED - Outstanding) stops in these villages, with a wide choice of local schools including an alternative primary school at Cold Aston (OFSTED – Outstanding), Pate’s Grammar (OFSTED – Outstanding) Cheltenham Ladies College, Cheltenham Preparatory School and Cheltenham College, Dean Close, St Edwards, and Rendcomb.
