Maize
High & Mid altitude
Region
Land preparation
to sowing
Start sowing of HYVs of maize like Vijay Composite, DA
61A, RCM 75, 76, Vivek Hybrid 25, Vivek QPM-1 &
local varieties like Local White & local Yellow in high
altitude region.
Incorporate organic manures like FYM @ 5t/ha in the field
20-30 days before sowing during ploughing.
Seed should be treated with Carbendazim 50% WP @ 2g/
kg or Captan 50% WP @ 2.5g/Kg of seed.
Sow 2 seeds per hill at a spacing of 60×30 cm followed by
thining at 10 days after germination & retaining one
seedling per hill.
Okra Sowing Sowing of HYV’s like Pusa A-4, VRO-6, Pusa Sawani,
Arka Anamika, Parbhani Kranti may be started now.
Before sowing farmers are advised to give water soaking
treatment overnight to enhance germination.
Sow the soaked seeds at the spacing of 30cm x 45cm with
3 seeds per hill & then thin to 2 plants per hill after 10
days.
Brinjal Nursery
preparation
Nursery bed preparation
Prepare raised nursery bed & apply FYM @ 4 kg/m2.
Make rows of 10 cm distance along the width of the bed
with the help of bamboo stick. Sow the seeds at 1-2 cm
deep in the line & covered with sieved FYM, sand and soil
mixture. Covered the bed with dry grass/paddy straw or
polythene for 3-5 days to induce early germination of

Nursery bed preparation
Prepare raised nursery bed & apply FYM @ 4 kg/m2.
Make rows of 10 cm distance along the width of the bed
with the help of bamboo stick. Sow the seeds at 1-2 cm
deep in the line & covered with sieved FYM, sand and soil
mixture. Covered the bed with dry grass/paddy straw or
polythene for 3-5 days to induce early germination of
seeds. Irrigate the bed every day. Removed the coverage
as soon as sprouts come out. Seedlings of 30-35 days old
can be transplanted in the main filed.
Recommended varieties:
Local Umroi, Muta Kesh, Narrow
Recommended seed rate
Varieties : 400 g / ha
Hybrids : 200 g / ha
Seed treatment
Treat the seeds with Trichoderma viride @ 4 g / kg or
Pseudomonas fluorescens @ 10 g / kg of seed. Treat the
seeds with Azospirillum @ 40 g / 400 g of seeds using
rice gruel as adhesive.

Nursery raising
Prepare raised nursery bed of height of 15 cm, 1m width
and length of convenient length. For 1 sq.m apply 5kg
well rotten FYM and 20 g of each N, P & K fertiliser, &
also apply 2.5g carbofuran or 200 g of neem cake.
Seed treatment
Seeds should be treated with Tricoderma @ 5-10 g/Kg
seed or carbendazim 2g/Kg seed to avoid damping off
disease.
Dry the treated seeds in shade for 30 minutes and then
sown sparsely along the lines in ½ cm depth and then
covered by the topsoil.
Seed rate: 400 - 500 g/ha seeds are required
After sowing, mulch with green leaves and irrigate with a
rose-can daily in the morning. Remove the mulch
immediately after germination of the seeds.
Bottle Gourd Sowing Prepare pits of size 60cm x 60cm x 60cm for sowing of
bottle gourd & apply 15-20kgs well rotten FYM in each
pit.
Sow 2-3 seeds of bottle gourd varieties like Pusa Summer,
Prolific Long, Prolific Round, Pusa Meghdoot, Pusa
Hybrid 2, etc to be planted in each pit.
Mulching with locally available materials like straw,
grasses may be done to reduce evaporation loses.
Ash Gourd Sowing Ash gourd to be planted at plant to plant 3m and row to
row 1.5m spacing. Apply 15-20kgs FYM/pit of size 60cm
x 60cm. Sowing of 2-3 seed may be sown in each pit.
Capsicum Fruiting stage Apply remaining dose of urea @ 54 kg/ha at 50-60 DAT.
As there was no rain in the previous days provide
irrigation to the crop.
Aphids & Thrips Spray Rogor (Dimethoate) @ 1 ml/litre of water or
