By: Maya Rose Johnson/Tinius
Mars Name
Mars , The Red Planet, was named after the Roman God of War. Because it appears to be red when viewed in the sky.
The ancient Egyptians named the planet Her Descher meaning the red one.
Mars Position And Distance
Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun. The perihelion is the point in the orbit of a
planet, asteroid or comet where it is nearest to the sun. Mars’ perihelion is 207 million kilometers.
Mars orbit is not unusual it’s just further from the sun.
Mars’ Rotation And Size
Mars is the smallest in terms of other planets. 0.376 times Earth’s gravity would be 3.687
newton per kilogram. A 100 pound person would weigh 37.7 pounds on Mars.
Mars Orbit In One
Mars’ Orbit In One Year
687 days on Earth equals one full year on Mars.
The distance that Mars travels around the sun is calculated to be 977,388,717 miles.
Mars Atmosphere
The atmosphere of Mars is made of 95% carbon dioxide, 3% nitrogen, 1.6% argon, and contains oxygen, water, and methane.
The atmosphere is thin on Mars.
Mars’ Atmosphere
Mars’ Atmosphere The temperature on Mars changes around -220⁰F in the Winter to 70⁰F in the summer. Mars is colder than Earth for two reasons, it’s further from the Sun, and Mars has no atmosphere to speak of.
