1973-NZ POST OFFICE.Commenced apprenticeship with NZ Post Office as an Electrician. Duties included

all aspects of the electrical trade from domestic installation and maintenance in residences and District Post Offices to heavy industrial installation and maintenance in Microwave Stations, Radio transmission stations, Chief Post Offices, Telephone Exchanges as well as the responsibility to maintain and repair the extensive network of emergency power generation equipment operated by the Post Office. Worked in Wanganui District, and later as an indentured tradesman in Palmerston North District and Wellington District. All stages of time as an indentured tradesman involved the responsibility of both apprentices and indentured tradesmen working under my supervision.

1983 - TEGAL POULTRY, NEW PLYMOUTH.Worked for Tegal Poultry, New Plymouth, as maintenance electrician. During that

time was also involved in the installation of a major new electronic chick weighing system in the main factory. Duties included routine maintenance and repair of all facets of their electrical installations. Both in the main processing factory as well as the hatcheries and breeding farms.

1984 - NEW PLYMOUTH INDUSTRIAL ELECTRICS.Worked as an electrical troubleshooter for an electrical firm involved in domestic,

industrial and energy project installations. Progressed to position of Foreman in charge of field installation and oil rig shifts for both bore testing and drilling rig installations throughout North Taranaki. Teams under my supervision ranged from two to 20 men and apprentices dependent on the type of installation.

1984 -1989 - TARANAKI BAKERIES, NEW PLYMOUTH.Responsible for entire electrical and mechanical maintenance of the factory, as well

as engineering, fitting and welding duties when required. For the latter part of my employment I worked as sole charge engineer/electrician.

1989 -1990 - EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE LTD, NEW PLYMOUTH.Worked as electrician and fitter/turner in the manufacture of industrial grade vacuum

packaging machinery specifically for the meat and dairy industry. Work involved installation of electrical systems in machines including PLC equipment and control. Also considerable amount of stainless steel fabrication and machining. Also heavily involved in spray painting and final finishing work on completed machines.

1991 - NEW ZEALAND RENNET CO, ELTHAM.A brief time as plant maintenance electrician and engineer in the Rennet Company's

specialist cheese manufacturing plant in Eltham. Duties included electrical maintenance, repair and installation, air conditioning and refrigeration maintenance and repair, stainless steel fabrication, repair and machining. Left Rennet Co to pursue own career in country and western dance instruction, wishing to convert a long time hobby into a full time business.

1991-1997-AUCKLAND.Involved in running own business in conjunction with my wife Mhairi, in the field of

dance instruction with brief spells of engineering and electrical work as fill-in for friends with local businesses to keep my hand in and skills sharp.

May 1997McConnell Smith Ltd - worked on contract at the Marsden Power Stations

decommission and demolition contract as Site Electrical Supervisor/Safety Officer/Fitting Supervisor. Had a team of 8-10 men to demolish one generator, turbines and condensers at “Marsden A” Power Station. Attended weekly meetings to co-ordinate work schedules with the other teams of riggers and boilermakers. Where necessary being moved into other areas to assist. My team finished ahead of schedule for our part of the contract.

September 1997Transferred to mechanical sub-contract at Kinleith Pulp & Paper Mill Modernization

Project as Site Foreman for mechanical team supervising a staff of 16 fitters and welders. Contract was terminated by main contractor BE&K/Bechtel JV at end of October.

February 1998Employed by Putaruru Electrical to work as a contract Electrician on the Carter Holt

Harvey Timber Mill in Putaruru. Involved in maintenance and repair on timber milling and processing plant as well as general fitting and welding for the Electrical service team.

June 1998Asked to join project at Marsden Point for the construction of a new Tanker Wagon

Filling Station & Tank Farm for Wiri Oil Services to be constructed by Robt Stone & Co. Began the project as Piping and Structural Steel Supervisor, as well as Site Safety Officer. But due to the departure of the site superintendent and the inability of the Tank Construction Supervisor to maintain his workload I finished the last five months of the project in sole charge of the day-to-day construction of the project. I was running a team of 30 people consisting of Welders, Fitters, and Riggers and Trades Assistants, plus overseeing the team of Electricians and Instrument Technicians provided by Alstom NZ . During this time I answered directly to the project manager Mr Fred Crozier. The project was completed on time on the 23rd of December 1998.

December 1998 – March 2011.Self employed as an Electrician and Fitter-Welder, completing several major

projects on FCF mill sites around central North Island.Included in this time was a spell as a Line yard maintenance Electrician and Fitter for Alstom NZ working in High Voltage line yards all over the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions.The final 3 years of this time have almost exclusively been spent working as an IT field technician involved in the servicing, repair and reprogramming of the range of ruggedized hand held PCs imported by the NZ agent, Pocket Solutions of Wellington.

March 2011 – July 2012.Employed as a retail sales person at the Outdoorsman Headquarters in Rotorua in

the Hunting, Fishing and Camping depts.

July 2012 – July 2014.

Employed by AG Industrial of Taupo as a Fitter/Electrician.This work has seen me working on many industrial sites around the Taupo region.Most importantly this work has involved work on both Contact Energy and Mighty River Power Geothermal Power Stations.

Contact Energy sites include Wairakei (Both main station and Binary plants, Te Mihi, Poihipi, Ohaki, Te Huka binary, and Karapiti pump station).During this time I have been directly involved in two turbine surveys on Wairakei, one turbine survey on Wairakei Binary, one turbine survey on Ohaki, plus many other small projects on all of these stations.

I have current inductions on all of these sites and hold Contact Energy’s NCP qualification. I am currently working on Wairakei conduction the 60hz – 50hz machining modifications to the spare turbine rotor for Poihipi Power Station under the supervision for Mr Chris Morris the station’s senior Engineer.

Mighty River Power sites include maintenance shutdowns on Mokai, Nga Awa Purua, Rotokawa and Ngatamariki.

July 2014 – Present.Singer Group as Leading Hand Fitter based on Contact Energy power staions in

Taupo region. Based on Wairakei power station.Responsible for day to day maintenance of plant on all five Geothermal staions in the region.I am also the Singer Group team HSE Representative for the geothermal MTC team.

I am highly PC literate, and hold above average skills in the use, maintenance and upgrading of IBM compatible personal and network based computer systems. I have considerable skills with Microsoft applications plus many others such as drafting, graphics, navigation, web design, OCR and many more.

I am very familiar with the safety policies of Power Stations, Timber Mills, Rail Yards, High Voltage environments and large industrial work-sites, and have no problems taking on a safety supervisory role if so required.
