Classrooms will be open to visitors across all grades Kinder to Year 6 from 10am till 11.10am and visitors are welcome to move from room to room across both campuses during this time. Please be aware that Kinder and Year 1 may finish a little earlier to allow time to walk across to the Primary Campus for the combined morning tea for all students and visitors from 11.15am till 11.55am. Morning tea will be held on our beautiful bottom playground. Tea/coffee, cold drinks, fruit, cake and donuts will be available to purchase. From 12 noon, all grades will participate in the Easter Hat Parade to be held under the covered area near the hall. Our Kinder and Year 1 students will be crafting their hats here at school and we have heard from the older children of many wonderful ideas for their creations at home!! For the students in Years 2-6, there is certainly no need to go to any great expense with your hats, just use whatever you already have at home so the children can join in the fun. It's a busy day for all but we would love to see you here! A reminder about our P & C Easter Raffle which will be drawn at the Easter Hat Parade. Small books of raffle tickets went home with the youngest child in the family during the week and we ask that these tickets are returned by Wednesday morning so they can be folded ready for the draw. We are seeking donations of eggs to make up as many large prize baskets as possible, so if your family would like to donate an Easter egg, please bring it in to either office. Term 1 Week 8: Friday 23rd March 2018

Next Wednesday 28th March is our Grandparents Day and Easter Hat Parade.

Our P & C AGM was postponed earlier this month as the accountant was still working on the financial audit. Hence, the Grafton Public School P & C Annual General Meeting will now be held on Tuesday 10th April, at 7pm. All welcome!

Grafton Public School P & C AGM

Colour Run sponsorship money has been steadily coming back in. Now that sponsorship forms have been returned to the students noting how many laps they accomplished, it’s time to collect all pledged money. Sponsorship money is due to be returned by Wednesday of Week 11, April 11th and prizes will be distributed early in Term 2. There are some great prizes on offer including Big W Wishcards, Saraton Movie Vouchers, I-Scream Vouchers, Red Hot Hair vouchers and a brand new bike for our highest fundraiser. Every child who returns their sponsorship form will go into the draw for a junior FitBit.

Colour Run

Our annual school Cross Country event will be held next Thursday 29th March at Westward Park commencing at 9.20am. All students in Years 2 to 6 will compete with each student competing in the age group of the age they turn this year. Those younger Year 2 students only turning 7 this year will compete in the 8 years race but will not be eligible for PSSA selection. Children may wear their house colours and must wear running shoes, NO football boots or spiked shoes.

Cross Country Event

On a hot and humid day, our GPS Tennis Team played Westlawn Public School in Round 2 of the PSSA Tennis Knockout Competition. Taylor, Maia, Mia, Riley and Rugeesthan played with great spirit and sportsmanship, but unfortunately didn't come away with the win on the day. Congratulations are in order though as all players played their best tennis on the day. Next Tuesday Maia and Taylor will vie for a place in the North Coast Tennis Team. Best of luck at the trials girls.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Colour Run What an exceptional day was had by all students last Friday at our Colour Run Fundraiser. The smiles on faces and sounds of laughter were infectious. The behaviour of the students was of a high standard and a huge thank you to Mrs Fletcher, Miss Jody and the Colour Run Team for their organisation of this event. I’d also like to thank the parent helpers who were volunteering around the track. Many hands make light work! We now ask parents to follow up with the fundraising side of this event as all money raised will be going into purchasing school resources for classrooms. Grandparents Day and Easter Hat Parade Next week, although a shorter school week, is very eventful. On Wednesday we welcome our wonderful grandparents into classrooms to observe current technologies and practices that would vary a lot since they were at school. Grandparents will also have an opportunity to view student workbooks and spent the morning tea break in our lovely grounds. Seating will be placed in the Primary playground and cakes, donuts and beverages will be available for purchase. Morning Tea will be available fifteen minutes before the children are released from class in case some of our visitors would like to avoid the longer queues. Following our extended morning tea, our annual Easter Hat Parade will be held on our Primary campus. This K-6 event is always colourful and a highlight for our younger students. Photographs will be taken throughout the event and placed on Facebook if you have ticked the permissions on the yearly long term permission note. For this reason, when class photos are taken, if your child is not for publication, they will not be photographed. If you are attending the event, please just photograph your own child. Cross Country All students from grades 2 to 6 will be participating in the Cross Country next Thursday at Westmore Park. A number of our students have been doing some extra running on the track within our school grounds in preparation for this event. Thank you to Mr Avery for his organisation with this event, it will be held unless the fields are closed or there is a storm risk. Students should wear their sports uniform or house colours, and can bring a change of school clothes if they wish (especially if the ground is very muddy). Easter Long Weekend The students will experience a shorter school week next week (Good Friday Public Holiday) and the following week (Easter Monday Public Holiday). There will be no newsletter next week, our next issue will be Friday 6th April. With many families taking this opportunity to spend quality time with relatives and friends, we would like to wish you a safe Easter long weekend, especially if you are travelling.

Kind regards,

Miss Michelle McDonagh

HPV Central HPV is short for Human Powered Vehicle. That’s right; anything powered by YOU is an HPV.

Every Friday morning, GPS conducts a Bike Bus, being supervised riding of bikes to school. A return home service also operates. The teachers accompanying the children take all reasonable care to ensure the safety of the children. Parents and carers are welcome to join us for the ride.

Ride to School Day Special

It was great to see so many wheels at school today. Those of us who travelled on the bike buses had lots of fun, especially Cooper Rumpf who celebrated his birthday today. Special mention to all those students who rode to school by themselves, with friends and/or family members. Great to see!!! Pictured are some of the bikes at infants this morning. If you would like to see a bike bus set up in your area, please talk to other parents who live nearby to see what level of interest exists. Mr Avery is happy to help you get it going.

GPS HPV program is proudly supported by Grafton City Cycles.

Assembly Awards

Traditionally, the Infants Sports Day for students in Kinder to Year 2 (Athletics Carnival) is held later in the year in Term 3 but this year we have made a change and are holding it on Friday 6th April to correspond with the Commonwealth Games. A full comprehensive note will go home next week with all details. Each class will be allocated a Commonwealth Country to represent and dress accordingly. There will be many activities on the day including running races, hurdles , sack races and lots of other novelty events. Parents and families are welcome to come along on the day and cheer on the “countries”. Keep an eye out for the upcoming note and details on Facebook.
