Bishop Machebeuf High School
Good morning and welcome to the commencement exercises for the graduating class of 2012!
What a true blessing it is to be here with you all this morning. We are here today in celebration of the great accomplishments, the great gifts, and the promising future that these young men and women before us bring, and I thank everyone here today for your attendance at this most joyous occasion. Thank you to our Apostolic Administrator, the Reverend Bishop James Conley. Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Mr. Richard Thompson. Faculty, Sta and Administration. And thank you especially to the parents of our graduates; for your unwavering support, seless sacrice, and prayerfully discerned investment in your children’s futures and the future of the Catholic Church!
However, more importantly, I would like to address our guests of honor this morning. To the graduates of the Class of 2012. You are truly a remarkable group of students who have excelled in your varied endeavors over the course of the past four years at Bishop Machebeuf High School. You have excelled and achieved intellectually, athletically, socially and in your service to mankind. Sitting before me today are National Merit Finalist and Commended Students, artists, actors and singers and musicians, and our very own 3A Basketball Player of the Year!! For the third consecutive year, this academic community of faith will witness 100% of its graduates gaining admission to colleges and universities nationally and internationally. What is most beautiful about these and all of the accomplishments not mentioned here this morning, is that you each humbly acknowledge that none of this could have been achieved without coming to know, love and serve Him who came before us – Jesus Christ.
You all, sitting here this morning, are a very special group of young people. You have been a part of a truly remark-able gift. For four years, you have come to know, love and desire to serve the person Jesus Christ. Not an idea, but a person. Who revealed that HE is the way. HE is the truth and HE is the Life! This is a remarkable gift, because He shares with us, invites us, to know Him…to know the TRUTH. With this revelation, through the gift of Catholic education, you are each eager to accept the challenge to examine your conscience, to stand rm in the moral and spiritual convictions of Christianity, and to stand up for what is right always!
Now, you are each heading your separate ways next year; from the University of Notre Dame and Benedictine College to Howard University and the City University of Hong Kong! However, there is something that you each possess that you will take with you. You have the seed inside of you that grows with a burning desire to pursue the truth. You un-derstand your calling to share the truth with others. And you understand your call to evangelize all four corners of this earth. You know that you are not just any ordinary person on this planet, but rather one who was willed into being with a purpose to serve others. You know that you are invited into a personal friendship with Christ and that in this relationship you will thrive in peace, happiness and ultimately love.
So, as you have studied the history of humanity through the lens of our Catholic faith over the course of the past four years, you have spent personal time serving your neighbors in need. You have come to appreciate the value and dig-nity of each human person as a brother and sister within the human family, and as we have been promised, “When you do this for the least of my brothers, you do this for ME”.
I would like to leave you with a quote from the book of Jeremiah. Chapter 29 Verse 11… which states, or rather promises - - “I know the plans I have for you, to give you a future and a hope says the Lord.”
This hope is the antithesis of despair, and of doubt. My prayer for you, the graduates of the Class of 2012, is that you take this hope with you always. And that this hope serves as an inspiration to you that when you leave us here today, that you go forth in condence that He has a plan for you to do great things.
Congratulations and God bless you.

The Bishop Machebeuf High School class of 2012 was all set to graduate on a
beautiful sunny Saturday morning at the University of Denver. Unfortunately, the sun never showed up, and the rain stuck
around. Instead of gathering at the University of Denver, the class of 2012
gathered with their friends and families in the Bishop Machebeuf High School
Gym to celebrate their commencement ceremony on May 19, 2012. As the large
crowd celebrated the 72 graduates, Valedictorian, Josh Napierkowski, who
will be heading to the University of Notre Dame, reminisced in his speech about the days behind but focused his attention on the importance of looking forward to the
days ahead. The class Salutatorian was Joni Maxson. The recipients of the Joseph P. Machebeuf High School
Student award, the highest non-academicaward given, were Reba Nazish and Nicholas Suhr. The recipients of the student athlete award, named the Pat Panek award, were Rebecca Howell and Kevin Murphy. The recipient of the Chris

Baccalaureate Mass
In the tradition of our faith and in the recognition that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, the graduating class of 2012, faculty and staff of BMHS and family and friends all gathered together with Apostolic Administrator Bishop James Conley at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception to celebrate the 2012 Baccalaureate Mass. The Baccalaureate Mass is a longstanding Catholic tradition which reminds us of one of the core values of our faith; as Blessed John Paul II put it, “Faith and Reason are the two wings upon which the human person rises to the contemplation of truth.” In his homily, Bishop Conley reminded our graduates of the need to evangelize and to be witness to the culture of the values and morals that they learned at Bishop Machebeuf High School. Bishop Conley was joined by our chaplain, Fr. Jorge Aguera, and also by Fr. Jim Crisman, Archdioc-esan Director of Vocations, Fr. Stephen Adams, Pastor of St. Pius X, and by Fr. Bert Chilson, Pastor of St. Therese. Congratulations to all of our graduates and may God continue to watch over you.
