What do teenagers think a lot about? – What is one of the themes in SLAM? – What is the book about? – What is one of the other themes in SLAM? – What is Sam thinking about all the time? – Why does Nick Hornby write for teenagers?

This book is about a 16-year-old boy who is about to become a father. He’s a skateboarder. He’s a good boy and he makes this one fatal mistake and that ends up in his girlfriend getting pregnant. His life is so radically changed by this […] event that he can’t help but spending all the time thinking what’s going to happen.

One of the themes in the book is that it only takes a few seconds to do something that is going to affect the rest of your life… I think the decision to write for teenagers partly came about because I’ve noticed an increasing number of teenagers coming to the readings for the other books.

I wouldn’t like to think that there is a morality to the book. Obviously it’s kind of moral territory talking about teenagers having sex and making mistakes ... Well, I think kind of a theme of the book is the future. It is something you spend an awful lot of time thinking about when you’re a teenager.
