5 ReActive_InActiveIncremental Construction
The proposal a 1-5-10 year scheme which combines the displaced unemployeed population in
Detroit with the uninhabited Fisher Body Plant.
1In the 1rst year the Fisher Body Plant
will provide a training facility in which the unemployeed will learn construction and
dismantaling techniques. Their first lesson will be constructing their classroom spaces.
The workers will then begin to take apart abandoned buildings in Detroit in order to recycle
and resue the parts. The materials will be
categorized and housed in the Fisher Body Plant.
5The 5th year begins construction of the more premenant traihing facility tube. It will reuse
the decontructed materials and be an ongoing educational contruction. The tube will grow
throughout the building as more sections are built and classroom space increased. The tube system fits between the pre-existing column system and
uses it as structure.
10The 10th year will begin the process of
repurposing, reusing, redirecting, and resizing materials for outside projects. The city will have abandoned buidlings recycled and the new work force will construct needed urban infill projects,
creating a healthy urban density.

Mirroring SoaneCritic_Robert Adams
House of John Soane: mirrors as wayfinding, lightening space, and spatial interconnections.
Soane = Interloper. Guardian Glass Manufactering is also a house of mirrors without a guide.
The strong linear flow of glass is reflected into secondary paths. Primary direction is disturbed by mirroring - Soane the interloper. Cuts into
factory reveal. Tactful insertion of effects. Accupenctional zoning. Break boundary, somtimes inhabit. Rays, parascopic effects, and mirroring.
Hiding but visible. Delicate series of moves, not strong figures. Light touch. Inplicate body in a
harsh environment. Otherworldy is cast in curating experience. Refracted images. Mirror as micro
species. Penetration of light. Lightening the heavy. Laser atmospheres piercing cloud. Exactitude,
precision, toppography of dust. Capturing zephyrs with films. Perceptual games. Mirros as a device never gets stuck. Architecture goes through mirror
and migrates to next space.
Digital FabriDigital FabricationCriticFaculty_Maciej P. Kaczynski
Projects using digital fabrication tools such as:
CNC Milling of wood to make a footstool without glue or hardware
CNC milled mould to use in vacuum forming PET plastic to make a repeating module for
a screen
Seam-induced double curvature using waterjet cut steel, scripting, and spot welds.
Multiple Scelerosis CenterCritic_Ryan Smith
Facility for Multiple Scelerosis research and treatment. The concept was fragmentation
- reflecting the nature of the disorder with the built form of the buiding. MS is caused by the disconnection of the nervous system and the form of the building reflects this fragmentation. The breaks in the form are where circulation and interaction of various functions happen. The layers are 18 inches high to create a human scale and provide benches and tables for indoor and outdoor use. The terracing also blends the complex
Mass and VoidCritic_William Miller
The Salt Lake City Funerary Chapel and Crematorium is a study in dualities
which make up the experience of life. The design plays with the balance of life/death, mass/void and light/dark. People inhabit the
void, and when they die, they are buried in the mass. The equilibrium between the mass and the void calls for the creation of void
to, in turn, create a mass. The play of light coming out of dark and void coming out of
mass is explored throughout the project
Passive Cooling - Scale: 1/8” = 1’ - 0” Clearstory window allows hot air to be removed. Air moving across water is cooled
Passive Solar- Scale: 1/4” = 1’ - 0” Thermal mass absorbs heat or coolness during the day and radiates it at night.

Monastary Eco ChicCritic_Karl Daubman
Proposal for a monastary on Kelleys Island in Lake Erie. The project would follow a
comprehensive studio structure and explore all the technical as well as design aspects of
making an eco-friendly monastary.
Whitehorse Housevolunteered for Nonprofit Design BuildBluff which gave housing to a single mother with four kids. The site was on the Navajo Reservation located
in southeastern Utah. Scope included design, construction documents, fabrication, green architecture, and construction.
Digital Representation
Digital MediaInstructor_Tony Serrato
Rendering course. Software included Autodesk 3D Max, Carrara 4, Rhino with Vray
plugin, and AutoCAD 2010 as well as video editing software.
