About the Graduate DiplomasThe Graduate Diplomas are a one-year Pre-Mastersprogramme which focus on preparing students forthe academic challenges of postgraduate studywithin their chosen field. The Graduate Diplomas arejointly delivered by the University of Kent’s topranking academic schools and the Centre forEnglish and World Languages (CEWL). Studentsare given the opportunity to develop theirindependent study and research skills through acombination of subject-specific modules within theirchosen academic school. In addition, students willhave the opportunity to improve their Englishlanguage proficiency and skills competence withour English and Academic Skills modules. Onsuccessful completion and through meeting theUniversities rules of progression, this GraduateDiploma would enable students to be considered fora range of taught Masters programmes.

What do I study?The Graduate Diplomas are modular coursestaught over three terms, starting in September. The structure is uniquely designed in order toprepare students for postgraduate study in yourchosen field. All students take modules in Englishfor Specific Academic Purposes and then choose a number of modules from their chosen academicspecialism. The Graduate Diploma pathwaysinclude:• Biosciences• Humanities (Classical and ArchaeologicalStudies; Comparative Literature; French;German; Italian; Hispanic Studies; EnglishLanguage and Linguistics; Philosophy; Religious Studies)

• Law for Postgraduate Study• Psychology• International Management with ManagementEnglish

• Computer Science• Computing

AssessmentStudents are assessed through a combination ofassignments, coursework and examinations

Graduate Diploma in BiosciencesThe School of Biosciences at the University of Kenthas established internationally recognized researchprogrammes in areas such as protein science, celland developmental biology and biomedicineresearch. The School aims to inspire students asthe next generation of bioscientists in preparationfor professional scientific careers.

The Graduate Diploma in Biosciences offersstudents the opportunity to develop their subjectknowledge and intellectual skills within the field ofBiosciences whilst building their language andacademic skills with dedicated modules in Englishfor Biosciences.

Graduate Diploma in PsychologyThe School of Psychology at the University of Kenthas established itself as a leading centre ofresearch and teaching in theoretical and appliedpsychology and has a commitment to excellence inscientific research with a concern for problems ofcontemporary relevance.

The Graduate Diploma in Psychology offersstudents the opportunity to develop their subjectknowledge within the field of Psychology whilstbuilding their language and academic skills withdedicated modules in English for Psychology.

Graduate Diploma in HumanitiesThe School of European Culture and Languages(SECL) is one of the largest academic schools at theUniversity of Kent and offers an extensive range ofpostgraduate programmes in all aspects ofEuropean cultural life (including language, literatureand film) and also in philosophy, religious studies,classics and archaeology. The Graduate Diploma inHumanities offers students the opportunity todevelop their subject knowledge within a specificarea within SECL whilst building their language andacademic skills with dedicated modules in Englishfor Humanities.

Graduate Diploma in InternationalManagement with Management EnglishThe Graduate Diploma in International Managementwith Management English is delivered by KentBusiness School (KBS) which is the business andmanagement faculty of the University of Kent. KBSis top-ranking and highly regarded in terms of bothteaching and research and combine a multiculturallearning environment with a supportive and flexibleapproach to teaching.

Graduate Diploma in ComputerScience/ComputingThe School of Computing is recognised for its world-leading research in areas such as computer security,communications, programming, education and AI,and has been ranked among the top universities forstudying Computer Science in the UK.

Two Graduate Diploma programmes are available.The Graduate Diploma in Computer Science is forcomputing graduates wishing to build on theirexisting knowledge and skills. If you have notstudied Computing before, the Graduate Diploma inComputing may be more suitable.

On successful completion of the Graduate Diploma(and through meeting the University’s rules ofprogression), you can choose from a number ofpostgraduate degree programmes offered withinthe School of Computing. Entry requirementsTo gain entry on to the Graduate Diplomas, youneed the following:• Equivalent of an honours degree from a UK orother approved university in a related subject, oran equivalent professional qualification.Consideration will be given to applicants holdingequivalent qualifications or work experience.

• English Language requirement for the GraduateDiploma in International Management withManagement English is IELTS 5.5 with aminimum of 5.5 in each section or equivalent. Forall other programmes the requirements is 6.0IELTS with minimum of 6.0 in Reading andWriting sections or equivalent
