ROLE SCOPE: STEM PH.D. PROGRAM This is a part-time position, three days per week four year fixed-term Employment Contract.

Concurrent with employment, Program participants must also be enrolled as a candidate for a Doctor of Philosophy with a research focus in a STEM discipline at a Group of Eight (Go8) University.

A STEM discipline is one that is within the Scope of STEM as defined by the Office of the Chief Scientist in Appendix 1 of its Position Paper dated July 2013.

Your role

The responsibilities of your new position

1. RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT:

• Maintain an active working knowledge of industry best practice and potential new technologies that may enter the industry

• Develop new skills necessary to gain a deep understanding of emerging areas of research and development

• Actively take part in Westpac Group’s research community, sharing knowledge and findings across the different divisions and participating in collaborative research activities

• Share the benefits of research and development with the broader Westpac Group through consistent communication, teaching and engaged discussions

2. ENHANCE GROUP PERFORMANCE:

• Work collaboratively with team members to assist with tasks that need to be completed and that are important for Westpac Group’s performance

• Proactively seek ways to add value to immediate teams as well as other teams across Westpac Group

• Develop the overall analytical capability of the team through personal development as well as cross-skilling team members

• Seek new ways for the business to succeed, consistent with Westpac Group’s vision and values

3. DATA ANALYSIS & PRESENTATION:

• Develop an understanding of the data, systems and processes across the business

• Utilise quantitative skills to analytical tools that enable effective presentation of data

• Develop advanced SAS, SQL, R, Excel with VBA, Word, Access, PowerPoint and other technical capabilities

• Management and participation in data manipulation, data cleansing, modelling, statistical analyses and reporting

4. REPORTING & INSIGHT:

• Assist in the development of effective governance and reporting frameworks surrounding the use and presentation of data in Westpac Group

• Ensure that information is accurately represented in a timely manner for regular reporting obligations

• Develop systems to automate regular reporting procedures without sacrificing quality of product

• Assist with the development of actionable insights from reports.

The knowledge and expertise required in your new role

EXPERTISE • Proven expertise in a STEM discipline. (This will be assumed by reason of being a candidate for a

Doctor of Philosophy in a STEM discipline.) • A proven ability to self-learn, beyond a structured course, then apply new skills • Strong quantitative skills for understanding complex analytical concepts or interpretation of data • Presentation skills to high quality and speed. PowerPoint critical and other tools advantageous • Ability to research new ideas, technologies and concepts • A deep knowledge of the scientific method • Solid communication skills including an ability to explain complex ideas in simple terms

• STEM Ph.D. Program Network Each candidate will be connected to other Program participants in the STEM Ph.D. Program across the Group and may be given opportunities for collaborative projects or joint development activities

• Enterprise HR Strategy & Research Support for the Program participants will be provided by the coordinators of the STEM Ph.D. Program, and feedback will be regularly sought to improve the program experience for future participants
