feel that the future is murky, consider skimming the list below and imagining the possibilities.
Many of you will not be eligible to apply to the Endangered Languages Fund, but could you

Information Sessions
DAAD – German Academic Exchange Service Study Scholarship and
Research Fellowship Information Session DAAD Fellowships provide support for study in Germany. The following opportunities
through DAAD are generally most relevant for graduate students: study scholarships
(provide an opportunity to do independent study in Germany or to complete a full
Master's degree), research grants (primarily to do doctoral research). As a partner
university, DAAD encourages the UA to select one priority candidate. Priority
candidates from partner universities receive preferential status in the general fellowship
competitions and have a considerably higher likelihood of being selected. The

Fulbright Student Program Information Sessions
Expand your horizons through the US Fulbright Student Program. The Office of
Nationally Competitive Scholarships is excited to host numerous information sessions
on the Fulbright US Student program this spring. Come and learn about the global
English Teaching Assistant and Study/Research opportunities. The Fulbright Student
Program provides grants to colleges and universities to fund individual doctoral
students who conduct research in other countries, in modern foreign languages and area
studies for periods of six to 12 months. Projects deepen research knowledge on and help
the nation develop capability in areas of the world not generally included in U.S.
curricula. Projects focusing on Western Europe are not supported.

National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF GRFP)

The purpose of the NSF GRFP is to help ensure the vitality and diversity of the scientific
and engineering workforce in the United States. The program is a wonderful source of

Carson Scholars Program in Public Communication for Environmental
Researchers (UArizona)
The Carson Scholars Program is dedicated to training the next generation of
environmental researchers in the art of public communication. Throughout the
scholarship year, Carson Scholars work closely with faculty mentors who provide hands-
on training and other resources to develop skills and strategies to effectively convey the
value of their research and enhance their skills in communicating science to a variety of
audiences. Scholars will typically give a public talk, present a pitch, write an essay or op-
ed and likely complete one other project by the end of the year.

The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Research Participation
Programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are educational and

DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Short Term Research Grants
(graduate and postdocs) Short-Term Research Grants are awarded for 1-6 months to highly qualified candidates
who have completed a Master’s degree or Diploma, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor’s
degree at the latest by the time they begin their grant supported research, or those who
have already completed a PhD (postdocs). DAAD will cover health insurance and
provide a flat rate subsidy for travel costs. In addition, limited funds are available for a
rent subsidy and family allowance.

German Historical Institute Doctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships
The GHI awards short-term fellowships to European and North American doctoral
students as well as postdoctoral scholars to pursue research projects that draw upon
primary sources located in the United States. We are particularly interested in research
projects that fit into the following fields: German and European history; The history of
German-American relations; The role of Germany and the USA in international
relations; and/or American history (European doctoral and postdoctoral scholars only).
The proposed research projects should make use of historical methods and engage with
the relevant historiography. We especially invite applications from doctoral students
and postdoctoral scholars who currently have no funding from their home institutions.
The monthly stipend is € 2,000 for doctoral students and € 3,400 for postdoctoral
scholars. In addition, fellowship recipients based in Europe will receive reimbursement
for their round-trip airfare to the U.S.

Graduate Arizona Financial Aid Trust Fund (AFAT) Need-Based Award
The Graduate AFAT Need-Based Award is an award funded through the Arizona
Financial Aid Trust Fund (AFAT) and is intended to help University of Arizona Graduate
and Professional students who demonstrate financial need according to the FAFSA. The
award amount is $3,000. Students enrolled in online programs are not eligible.
Minimum GPA is 3.0

Immigrants Rising Graduate Scholarships Founded in 2006, Immigrants Rising transforms individuals and fuels broader changes. With resources and support, undocumented young people are able to get an education, pursue careers, and build a brighter future for themselves and their community. Immigrants Rising’s List of Graduate Scholarships contains scholarships for graduate
studies that don’t require proof of citizenship or legal permanent residency. This up-to-
date list, organized by deadline date, contains scholarships at the local (Bay Area), state and national level.

International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) Tang
Education Fellowships The IUBMB Tang Education Fellowships will provide opportunities for the development of both biochemistry and molecular biology educational programs and educators with the specific aims of: increasing expertise and capability in biochemistry and molecular biology education; supporting engaged educators; promoting change/innovation in
approaches to education; improving student learning experiences, outcomes, and engagement with biochemistry and molecular biology; building an evidence base on which to make future recommendations on biochemistry and molecular biology education; and supporting biochemistry and molecular biology education in developing countries. The fellowships can be used for: Universities/departments to apply for
nominated experienced biochemistry and molecular biology educator to visit their institution for a specific educational outcome (Complete Form A); OR Educators to apply to visit institutions to learn/develop education practices and methodologies for a specific educational outcome (Complete Form B). The fellowship will be awarded for travel lasting up to two months. The fellowships are intended to cover travel
accommodation and living expenses, to a maximum of US$4,000.

Laura Bassi Scholarships The Laura Bassi Scholarship was established by Editing Press in 2018 with the aim of providing editorial assistance to postgraduates and junior academics whose research focuses on neglected topics of study, broadly construed, within their disciplines. The
scholarships are open to every discipline and are awarded three times per year: December, April, and August. The value of the scholarships are remitted through editorial assistance as follows: Master’s candidates: $750; Doctoral candidates: $2,500; Junior academics: $500. These figures reflect the upper bracket of costs of editorial assistance for master’s theses, doctoral dissertations, and academic journal articles,
respectively. All currently enrolled master’s and doctoral candidates are eligible to apply, as are academics in the first five years of their employment.

NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising Research Support
Grant for Academic Advising NACADA research support is intended to facilitate research related to academic advising. Quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methodologies are welcome, as is research from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. Program assessment is not funded. Successful proposals will clearly describe the development, implementation, analysis, and reporting of rigorous inquiry that investigates academic advising’s impact, context,
or theoretical basis. The impact of academic advising on students and institutions, such as measurement of advising’s impact on particular student populations or on institutional goals (such as retention or program implementation) or analysis of the impact of particular advising practices, models, or organizational structures on student learning and development. The context of academic advising, which may include
examination of institutional and cultural conditions that have an impact on student academic decision-making, institutional support, or reward and recognition of advising. The theoretical basis of academic advising development and practice, including evaluation or analysis of advising-based theory from philosophical/theoretical perspectives informed by a variety of disciplines.

Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society Grants-in-Aid of Research
(GIAR) Program The Sigma Xi Grants in Aid of Research (GIAR) program has provided undergraduate and graduate students with valuable educational experiences since 1922. By encouraging close working relationships between students and mentors, the program promotes
scientific excellence and achievement through hands-on learning. The program awards grants of up to $1,000 to students from most areas of the sciences and engineering. Designated funds from the National Academy of Sciences allow for grants of up to $5,000 for astronomy research and $2,500 for vision related research. Students use the funding to pay for travel expenses to and from a research site, or for purchase of non-
standard laboratory equipment necessary to complete a specific research project.

Tinker Field Research Grant for Summer Research in Latin America and
the Caribbean
Tinker Foundation Research Grants provide graduate students with travel funds
(international and in-country) to Spanish and Portuguese-speaking Latin American or
Caribbean countries as well as limited field research expenses. These awards allow
students to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of language and culture, to familiarize
themselves with information sources relevant to their studies; to conduct pilot studies
and preliminary investigations, and to develop contacts with scholars and institutions in
their fields.

Boston Athenæum Short-Term Fellowships The Boston Athenæum offers short-term fellowships to support the use of Athenæum
collections for research, publication, curriculum and program development, or other
creative projects. Each fellowship pays a stipend for a residency of twenty days (four
weeks) and includes a year’s membership to the Boston Athenæum. Scholars, graduate
students, independent scholars, teaching faculty, and professionals in the humanities as
well as teachers and librarians in secondary public, private, and parochial schools are
eligible. Several fellowships are open, including the Mary Catherine Mooney Fellowship,
Caleb Loring, Jr. Fellowship, American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies
Fellowship, American Congregational Association-Boston Athenæum Fellowship,

Columbia Global Center Fellowship Program for Emerging Displaced
Scholars (graduate and postdocs)
In partnership with the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Columbia Global Centers |
Amman has established the Mellon Fellowship Program to support emerging displaced
scholars working in the humanities and humanistic social sciences. The goal of the
program is to create opportunities for scholars to reintegrate into academia and resume
their academic pursuits. Eligible candidates are scholars in the humanities and
humanistic social sciences who have been forcibly uprooted from their home countries
and respective academic institutions. They could be graduate students who have had
their education disrupted or post-doctoral scholars in the early stages of their careers.
Creative writers, artists, and curators may also apply. Fellows will be expected to
participate in scholarly presentations, workshops, and roundtable discussions. They will
be connected to a global network of academics and scholars in Jordan, New York (from
Columbia University), and beyond.

scholars. Applications from individuals who have been in exile will also be
considered. A personal statement (two pages) which includes motivation for

Education Pioneers Impact Fellowship “Normal” K-12 education wasn’t working for millions of Black and Latinx students, and other children from low-income communities. Data continue to reveal that the pandemic has impacted these students’ learning disproportionately – all while these
students are more likely to have faced personal trauma and loss. Simply put: returning to what once was is not good enough; we must disrupt existing systems and create a more equitable future. In response to the urgency of our context, EP will scale up the Impact Fellowship–recruiting and developing 40+ diverse data analysts and strategic project managers to serve the education sector during the 2021-2022 academic year.
New Impact Fellows will serve 10-month placements at school districts, charter networks, and other education organizations while also participating in a nationwide cohort for learning and connection.

Endangered Language Fund (ELF) Language Legacies Grant Program The Language Legacies grant program supports documentation and revitalization
efforts throughout the world. The Endangered Language Fund provides grants for language documentation and revitalization, and for linguistic fieldwork. The work most likely to be funded is that which serves both the native community and the field of linguistics, although projects which have immediate applicability to one group and more distant applicability to the other will also be considered. Support for publication is a low
priority, although it will be considered. Proposals can originate in any country. The language involved must be in danger of disappearing within a generation or two. Endangerment is a continuum, and the location on the continuum is one factor in our funding decisions. Eligible expenses include consultant fees, equipment, travel, etc. Overhead is not allowed. Grants are for a one-year period, though extensions may be
applied for. We expect grants in this round to be less than $4,000, and to average about $2,000.

Fahs-Beck Fund for Research and Experimentation Doctoral Dissertation
and Faculty/Post-Doctoral Grant Programs The Doctoral Dissertation Grant Program offers grants of up to $5,000 to help support dissertation expenses of doctoral students in the United States and Canada whose studies have the potential for adding significantly to knowledge about problems in the functioning or well being of children, adults, couples, families, or communities, or about interventions designed to prevent or alleviate such problems. The research for which
funding is requested must focus on the United States or Canada or on a comparison between the United States or Canada and one or more other countries. The Faculty/Post-Doctoral Grant Program offers grants of up to $20,000 to help support the research of faculty members or post-doctoral researchers affiliated with
non-profit human service organizations in the United States and Canada. Areas of interest to the Fund are: studies to develop, refine, evaluate, or disseminate innovative interventions designed to prevent or ameliorate major social, psychological, behavioral or public health problems affecting children, adults, couples, families, or communities, or studies that have the potential for adding significantly to knowledge about such
problems. The research for which funding is requested must focus on the United States or Canada or on a comparison between the United States or Canada and one or more other countries.

Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History Short-Term Research
Fellowships
At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in
American history. More than 70,000 items cover five hundred years of American
history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World to soldiers’ letters from
World War II and Vietnam. The Gilder Lehrman Institute provides annual short-term
research fellowships in the amount of $3000 each to doctoral candidates, college and
university faculty at every rank, and independent scholars working in the field of
American history.

Grand Canyon Historical Society Research Scholarship
The Grand Canyon Historical Society is a non-profit organization operating to develop
and promote appreciation, understanding and education of the earlier history of the
inhabitants and important events of the Grand Canyon and surrounding area; and to
lawfully do any and all things necessary, suitable and proper for the accomplishment of
these purposes. Through generous donations from our Members, the Society normally
awards a $1,500 scholarship or grant for support of research involving history, historic
or environmental preservation in the Grand Canyon region. However for 2021 the Board
has authorized an amount of $2,000 per scholarship or grant. Eligible projects include
any work that results in original research concerning historical individuals, events, sites,
organizations, businesses or environmental issues in the Grand Canyon region; or any
work that results in original research that supports or leads to historical preservation of

The Mellon International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) offers six to twelve

Thrasher Research Fund Early Career Award Program The Fund recognizes that young investigators may find it difficult to remain in pediatric research because of a lack of funding. Therefore, the purpose of this program is to encourage the development of medical research in child health by awarding small grants to new researchers, helping them gain a foothold in this important area. The goal is to fund applicants who will go on to be independent investigators. The Fund will make up
to 30 awards total with two funding cycles (15 awards each). The Fund is open to a wide variety of research topics. In the Early Career Award Program, the Fund is particularly interested in applicants that show great potential to impact that field of children's health through medical research.

Zuckerman STEM Leadership Program Postdoctoral Scholars Program The Zuckerman Postdoctoral Scholars Program attracts high-achieving postdoctoral scholars from premier universities in the United States and Canada to do research at one of seven Israeli universities. Once they complete their research, many Zuckerman postdocs are expected to accept faculty positions at top North American universities, weaving a network of academic collaboration and goodwill that will greatly benefit US-
Israeli scientific cooperation. Zuckerman Scholars enjoy unique programming and activities organized especially for them by their host universities and the Zuckerman Institute in Israel, including touring, educational experiences, and social programs. These activities are designed to strengthen the scholars’ knowledge of and connection to Israel, and cultivate an esprit de corps, exchange of ideas, and foster new relationships.
Five postdoctoral scholarships will be given out per participating university for the 2021-2022 academic year in two tracks. Postdoc at an Israeli University Track: A two-year postdoctoral scholarship where scholars conduct research exclusively at one of 7 participating Israeli universities. If circumstances allow, Zuckerman Postdoctoral
scholarship may be renewed on a competitive basis for an additional one or two year. Joint US-Israel Postdoc Track: A two-year joint postdoctoral scholarship where scholars spend half their time at one of 7 participating Israeli universities, and the other half at a
US or Canadian university. Scholars in this track can decide how to divide their time.
