Remind your children that when we enter into a relationship with God, we receive the Holy Spirit, who has the power to change our hearts. Your child’s circle of influence is constantly expanding. Be sure to encourage positive friendships and speak to him often about being a positive influence in the lives of those around him. Your child may increasingly look to outside influences to help direct her choices. Remind her that God has given us the Bible and the Holy Spirit to help us make right choices. date: Cut a heart out of a piece of paper. Show the heart to your children and ask them what it represents. Share that David asked God to search his heart for anything that didn’t please Him, saying, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:2324). Read together the story about David and Abigail in 1 Samuel 25:139. Ask your kids if they see how God used Abigail to change David’s heart. Then pray together, thanking God that He loves us enough to show us our hearts and change them when we submit to Him. © 2013 David C Cook.
