• Risk Assessments
Materials• The two most important aspects: quality and cost efficiency • The initial bill of materials that Patrick made in stage one for the
HAWT was revised and added too before being ordered in.
Components• The main components of the turbine are identified. • Sub-assemblies: base, main-shaft and top-section.
Base• The sub-assembly ‘base’• The legs and braces• Platforms
Main shaft • The sub-assembly ‘main-shaft’ is designed to support the top
section • Angle iron• The nylon bar • The steel pipe
Top-Section• The top-section is the most complex sub-assembly • The tailfin • The hub• The blades• Angle iron
Electrical Components
• Motor• Voltage Regulator
Final Design• SolidWorks 2015• Drawings • Revisions• Dimensions and tolerances• A drawing order
Development in the workshop• 33 hours (11 days)• Tools: hand drill, jig saw, etc.• Challenges
Testing • Before Testing, pre check list
1 Ensure test area is clear P2 All Persons wearing proper PPE P3 check all wires are secure P4 Check Blades spin P5 check tail fin turns turbine to correct position P6 Ensure all connections are secure P7 check turbine generator turns P8 check rev counter P9 check brake is in working order P
10 Voltage regulator is Working P11 light bulb is being powered P
Controlled environment testing• Turbine did not preform well• Equipment: Fan, Manometer, regulator • Initial test 4.8m, repeated 2 times• Highest voltage 6V• Reason for such low voltage
Natural Environment Testing• Turbine break • Turbine producing 23V at 7.1 m/s• Regulator turned down voltage 12V

Specifications• The turbine produces 12 Volts of electricity.• Powers a 20-watt bulb.• Doing this using 15mph winds or upwards
Project Evaluation/Summary• How the team found the project• Anything the team would change ?
