Monday focus: CATCH UP day This is a day to spend time reflecting on your story so far and adding anything you want to make it more engaging to your reader. Refer back to the Must Haves and ensure that you are finished Chapter 1 and 2. (see writing resource below.) Have you reread it all to check it makes sense? Spend some time ‘polishing’ your character and his job. Goal: Look at how commas are used when describing a character or setting. Think: Remember your task what to create a story about a man names Alan who is an incredibly short-tempered, red-faced man. Have you invented the worst job possible for him? Have you referred to his job thought out some of the chapters? Did you share perspective: How do the others in his workplace feel about him? Make sure you have shared their feelings with us at times throughout your book.

Or watch BTN live on
ABC Me on TV at
11.45am today. For
each story you will
need to record:
1)Title
2) Main idea
3) 3 important details
from the story.
You will then choose
1 story to write a 30
word summary about.
Tuesday focus: DIALOGUE Chapter 3: Make sure you have added some of the dialogue that you noted on your plan. Is it punctuated correctly? Remember the tips from the videos in the assignment last week. Try to include dialogue on Chapter 3. Some ideas could include:
• a hook sentence,
• a conversation between workers
• Alan as the boss speaking to employees
• Alan telling his family at home about his work day
• try to use it to build suspense in the problems and resolutions.
Goal: To complete Chapter 3 using dialogue and save it to your draft document. To improve your work use the thesaurus and to choose better synonyms for common words.

Wednesday focus: PERSPECTIVE Chapter 4: Include someone else’s opinion of Alan. Be sure to point out why they feel this way. We have touched on perspective a little bit before when I asked you to refer to how Alan’s employees thought of him. In this chapter you need to share perspective of Alan from his pet, wife, children, family or friends point of view. Watch this video: What did Mario see? https://youtu.be/TfxKsaEYNMs What did the princess being saved see? (This shows someone else’s perspective) Goal: Complete chapter 4 including someone else’s perspective (thoughts/opinion) of Alan.

Thursday focus: FLASHBACKS Chapter 5: In stories we read the author will sometimes refer to things that have happened in the past – this is a flashback. Try to create a flashback of something that happened to Alan as a child that is making him behave this way. You could introduce the element of humour in this part of the story also. Example: Marcus remembered the feeling of being embarrassed, the heat flushing his cheeks and his temperature rising. It was in that moment he recalled the moment his brother told everyone he sucked his thumb in grade 6! Flashbacks help to provide information into a character’s past, help the events and feelings of the story to feel deeper and richer, and can show reasons as to why things are happening now in the story. Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yOIrQ6ncDI Goal: Complete chapter 5 including a flashback from Alan’s childhood.

Consider where you work sits against the Rubric: Gold, Silver, Bronze. Consider do you need more chapters to finish your book? If so could you add it today? Goal: To have you book fully drafted and revised up to Chapter 5.
