The GPS (Global Positioning System) is the technology thatallows us to set global position of an object, a person, a vehicle ora ship with almost pinpoint accuracy, at any time and fromanywhere. To achieve this, receiver communicates with aconstellation of 24 satellites approximately 20,200 km and 5stations spread over the entire land surface of the receivingposition data and time. Thus the screen draws a map with theexact location of the object indicating streets, roads, rivers andlandforms terrain in full color.
The GPS system was invented by Ivan Getting who, after years working for the Air Force and its navigationand guidance systems for missiles, devised the creationof a network of satellites that allow tracking of anobject almost millimeter.
The Global Positioning System, known as "GPS", was officially opened in 1995.
This system born within the Department of Defense ofthe U.S. It was originally conceived as a military strategy, but over time developed a huge number of civilianapplications. Thanks to GPS, the lost world stopped.
