4 Bonds – MOTTO, SIGN, SALUTE & LEFT HAND SHAKE

1. MOTTO

The motto of the ranger is service. i.e. Selfless service to the

society and community. To serve the society she has to be

physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

When there is a call for service, a Ranger should be ready in

her mind and body for all emergencies. It means she has to be

properly trained and equipped with necessary knowledge and skill to meet the situation.

2. SIGN

The sign is made by raising your right hand palm to the front, thumb resting on

the nail of the little finger and the other fingers upright, pointing upwards. The

three fingers remain a Ranger of the 3 parts of the promise. The sign is given at

the time of taking promise during investiture ceremony and at the time of the

renewal of the guide promise. It is also used as a greeting.

3. SALUTE

4. LEFT HAND SHAKE

The members of the movement greet each

other by shaking their left hand and saluting

each other around the world. It comes from

Ashanti tribes when once Baden Powell met

Chief of Ashanti tribes. BP saluted the chief

with his right hand but the Ashanti chief

offered his left hand and said "In our land

only the bravest of the brave shake hands with the left hand, because to do so must drop our

shields and our protection.

About the book – “SCOUTING FOR BOYS"

The Book "Scouting for Boys" was originally written by the founder Lord Baden Powell in the

year 1908. Later The Bharat Scouts and Guides with the permission of World Bureau of Boy

scouts have published first edition in Oct 1972 and second edition in 1976. Later whenever

required it was republished in both Hindi and English.

The book has 9 Chapters and each Chapter has around three to Four sub Chapters

called Camp Fire Yarns. There are about 26 camp fire yarns and in each camp fire yarn BP has

dealt with various subjects on scouting. It has about 200 drawings and many short stories,

like the story of Kim.

Chapter 1 is on Scout Craft

Chapter 2 is on Campaigning

Chapter 3 is about Camp life

Chapter 4 is on Tracking.

Chapter 5 is about Wood Craft.

Chapter 6 is Endurance for Scout

Chapter 7 is About Chivalry of the Knights.

Chapter 8 is about Saving Life

Chapter 9 is about Our Duties as citizens

ABOUT FLAGS

1. NATIONAL FLAG

Our national flag is a horizontal tricolour of deep saffron in the top, white in the middle and

green in the bottom in equal width. In the centre there is Ashoka chakra in navy blue colour.

Saffron denotes courage and sacrifice. White for purity and path of truth, green denotes

prosperity. Ashoka chakra with 24 spokes is the wheel of the law of dharma and denotes

progress.

2. BSG FLAG

The Bharat Scouts and Guides flag is deep sky blue in colour. In the centre of the flag we find

the emblem of BSG. The Fleur-de-lis in the emblem symbolizes the scout wing and trefoil the

Guides wing. The Ashoka chakra symbolizes India and horizontal band symbolizes world

brother and sisterhood. The emblem is in yellow colour and Ashoka chakra in blue colour.

3. THE WORLD GUIDE FLAG

The world guide flag consists of the golden trefoil on the left upper corner on a bright blue

background. The three leaves represent the three fold promise. The flame represents the

love for humanity. The vein pointing upwards represents the compass needle pointing the

way and the two stars represent the promise and law. A white blaze in the lower right hand

corner represents WAGGGS commitment to peace. This is crowned by 3 golden blocks

symbolising the three fold promise.

It is used at world centres, the world bureau, WAGGGS gatherings and by all member

organizations often as a unit flag.

FLAG ETIQUETTE

Flag etiquette means the guidelines to be followed with related to our national flag or the BSG

flag. Some of the etiquettes are

1. Flags should not be used for commercial purposes and shall not be dipped in salute to

any person.

2. Flags should not be flown at half mast except on occasions.

3. Should not be intentionally allowed to touch the ground or floor or trail in water.

4. Should not be used as a covering for a building.

5. It shall not be displayed upside down.

6. Damaged flags should not be hoisted.

7. When the flag is displayed in open, it should be flown from sunrise to sunset

irrespective of weather conditions.

8. When the flag is damaged or soiled it shall be destroyed as a whole in private or burn

or any other method consistent with the dignity of the flag.

9. When displayed in a straight line with flags of other countries, the national flag shall be

on the extreme right. All the other flags should be flown lower than national flag.

ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR 2017 – 18

On account of International Yoga Day Celebration, our college Rovers and Rangers along with RL

Shubha participated in the International Yoga Day celebration programme organized by BSG, SHQ

at Shanthi Gruha on 21-06-2017. RSL Ravindra from GFGC, RT Nagar was demonstrating yoga.

Maharani’s Science college ground was used for performing Yoga.

RL Shubha. S attended World Environment day 2017 on 06-06-2017, organized by Karnataka state

Government at Rajendra Prasad Auditorium at GKVK, Bangalore. Chief Minister Sri Siddaramaiah

inaugurated the programme.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

Free Dental Check-up camp was organized from 21-7-17 to 22-7-17 for the benefits of our college

students. The inauguration function was arranged in seminar hall at 10.00am. The function was

presided by principal Dr. R. Komala, Dr. Vijaya Anand, Dr. Amrutha Rathod of Partha Dental

Hospital, Malleshwaram, Mr. Chandrakanth Marketing Executive and Prof. Venkateshappa HOD,

Dept. of Kannada and Coordinator for Red Cross. The Function began with invocation song by

students. Dr. Vijaya Anand of Patha Dental was very kind enough to accept the invitation to

conduct free Dental check-up for the benefits of our college students studying in B.Com, BBA, BA

and B.Sc courses.

Rangers of our college provided service by helping in providing and filling up of Registration forms

and feedback forms and also helped the doctors in conducting the camp smoothly. There were three

Dental Check-up tables with well equipped dental instruments, the doctors checked each students

with a smile and gave advices and suggestions on how to maintain their teeth healthy. At the end

there was a power point presentation on benefits of keeping teeth healthy by Dr. Amrutha Rathod.

Around 437 students got benefit from it.

On 15th

August 2017, Independence day was celebrated in the college campus.

Blood Donation Camp was organized in College our college on 17-08-2017, Many Rovers and

Rangers along with RL Shubha. S donated Blood.

Save Water Save Bengaluru – Rally organised by BBMP on 20-08-2017

Rally for Rivers was been organized on 09-09/2017 Also a rally was been called in Bangalore

Palace Grounds by state government – most of the ministers, Puneeth Rajkumar were all present.

Rally for Rives on green Cauvery basin mission is of reviving river basins and it is the movement

led by Isha foundation of Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev and has planned to plant about 2.42 billion tress

in the Cauvery basin.

Trekking camp was organized on 10/09/2017 for Rovers and Rangers of our College. All the

students started from Bangalore at 6.30am from Bangalore and reached Kolar at 8.15am. At about

8.40am all of them assembled at the bottom of Anthera Gange hills in Kolar. RL Shubha. S made 3

patrols. P1 was responsible for cleaning the area around for conducting of Flag and Cooking. P2

was responsible for arranging of Flag and other arrangements. P3 was responsible for cooking

food. Flag was conducted at 9.30am and was followed by Breakfast. After breakfast, all of us

trekked the Anthera Gange hills. And at about 7.00pm all of them reached Bangalore.

Community Development Project work Rally- Sanitation Promoter on 24-9-2017. On the part of

requirement for Nipun Badge, the Rovers and Rangers went on a rally in Malleshwaram to give the

message to the community to spread the awareness on how to secure the grains, food, drinking

water, cleanliness, etc.

Gandhi Jayanthi Programme and College Campus Cleaning programme was been organized in our

college on account Gandhi Jayanthi on 02-10-2017. The Rovers and Rangers made an arrangement

for All-faith-prayer in the college corridor, the Government Primary School students also took part

in this event. Mahatma Gandhi Photo and BP Photo was been placed. After the prayer, students

did the college campus cleaning, also involved themselves in gardening. After the cleaning

programme, a small refreshment was been arranged for the students.

Nipun Testing Camp was been held at DTC, Udupi district from 05/10/2017 to 07/10/2017. 7

Rovers and 12 Rangers of our college participated along with RL Shubha. S who was also the LOC.

Senior Rovers Rakshith and Rajshekar also accompanied us to do service in the camp.

Conducted District level “SURF SMART” Course in our college on 31-03-2018. Most of the

Rovers and Rangers from Bangalore North District participated in this Workshop. RSL Danial
