NCC Introduction:-
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) has its genesis in the “University
Corps”, which was created under the defense act, 1947 with the object
to make up the shortage of the Army. In 1920, when the Indian
Territorial Act was passed, the “University Corps” was replaced by the
“University Training Corps (UTC)” In 1942, the UTC was renamed as
the “University officers Training Corps (UOTC). The need to create a
youth organization at national level to train the young boys and girls to
be better citizen and future leaders of our great country in all walks of
life, including defense forces, was rightly realized by our Leaders. A
Committee under pandit H.N. kundzreu was set up in 1946 at the behest
of our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The NCC came
into existence on 16th July, 1948 under the NCC Act of 1948 under the
minister of Defense (mod).
NCC MOTTO
The motto of the NCC is “Unity and Discipline” which was adopted on
23December 1957. In living up to its motto. The NCC strives to be and
is one of the greatest cohesive forces of our nation, bringing together the
youth hailing from different parts of our country and molding them into
united, secular and disciplined citizens of our nation.
Symbol
CORDINAL OF DISCIPLINE
1. Obey with a smile.
2. Be punctual
3. Work hard and without fuss.
4. Make no excuses and tell no lies.
Selection of NCC Flag
In 1954 the existing tricolor Flag was introduced. The three colors in the
flag depict the three services of the corps. Red for the army, deep blue
for the Navy and light Blue for the Air Force. The letters NCC and the
NCC erect in gold in the middle of the Flag encircled by a wreath of
lotus, give the Flag a colorful look and a district identity. Each lotus
represents one NCC Directorate (Dte).
Symbol
Introduction:- 1. The desirability of composing a NCC Song was considered in
January 1956. The official song of the NCC- “Kadammilakechal”
was adopted in 1963 and registered in 1969 with the approval of
the Ministry of Defense. In 1974, it was felt that the NCC song
has failed to catch the imagination of the youth and there was a
need for a change.
2. Director of documentary film on NCC, “A Cadets Diary”
happened to hear the song- “Hum Sum BhartiyaHain”- which
appears to have been first song at a Youth Festival at Chandigarh,
Sometime during 1968-69 and he introduced it in the documentary
Film. The song was a hit and played repeatedly in Republic Day
Camps. In 1980, the word “Hindi” was Substitute with “Bhartiya”.
