JESUS AS FULFILLING KING/MESSIAH

• The prologue of Matthew is a genealogy account explaining his Royal Messianic roots as a descendant of David, from the Tribe of Judah.

• Matthew also refers to the Old Testament plenty of times to describe how Jesus fulfills the law and prophecies:

• Jesus’s birth and flight from Egypt, Matthew 1:22-23 & 2:14-15

• John the Baptist preparing the way, Matthew 3:1-3

• Capernaum- begins ministry, Matthew 4:12-17

• The Parables, Matthew 13:10-17

JESUS REVEALED AS THE SON OF GOD

God’s Voice from HeavenMatthew 3:16-17

“…And He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Demons know who He isMatthew 8:28-29

“… there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way. And suddenly they cried out saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?”

Peter confesses Matthew 16:15-17

“He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.”

Luke• Jesus is depicted as the passionate,

suffering Shepherd

• Luke 24:46-47 “.. And thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”
