Veta Gorner was originally from St Petersburg but now lives and works in Northamptonshire. She has just been elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in recognition of her professionalism, technical skills and creativity.
Her first love is drawing and she is constantly experimenting with new materials and techniques in order to find new ways of drawing. She loves the raw energy of needle-marks made when she scores into zinc for her etchings or onto aluminium boards for her paintings. Her lines are sharp, energetic and fluid.
Graham Muir graduated from Edinburgh College of Art and for many years was a lecturer in glass design at the University of Sunderland. His striking wave forms, some of which weigh as much as 10kg, push glass production to the technical limit. This technique of blown and carved lead crystal is pretty much his own and, as he says, “nobody else is fool enough to try it!”
With his perfume bottles his aim has been to move away from traditional shapes in favour of design pieces that use simple graceful forms together with precise use of colour combinations.
Prices range from £200 to £2400.
The entire exhibition can be viewed on the Castle Gallery’s website at: www.castlegallery.co.uk

These jesmonite resin casts from metal etching plates capture the special three dimensional qualities of the plate. They have been made in editions of 20 with applied oil and metallic inks. They are beautifully tactile and provide an interesting contrast to similar images that have been traditionally hand-printed onto paper.
“I am exhilarated by the challenge of printmaking and its ability to incorporate a multitude of other techniques: a fusion of design, engineering, sculpture, architecture, drawing and painting, logic and intuition.”

Glass Forms “I wanted the form to convey the beauty, but also, the often-frightening power of nature.”
Graham Muir
