[ GEOTHERMAL LEARNING ]Design Processes III, Fall 2009Washington University in St. LouisCritic: Tyler MeyrSite: Shaw Nature Center
During further light analysis at Shaw Nature Center, I dissected the different patterns of light created around a swampy area, focusing on the water and plants. With these images, I created a lightbox featuring these patterns. This analysis led ultimately to the design of an outdoor classroom, utilizing the water from the site to heat the space through a geothermal loop. Once inside the classroom, children could be educated about the natural world around them.

Architectural Design I, Fall 2010Washington University in St. LouisCritic: Iain Fraser Site: Carondelet Park
The community surrounding Carondelet Park is in need of a community center where residents and gather together and specifically have access to a pool facility. The function of this facility can be dictated by manipulating the fabric panels stretching across the roof of the center in order to cotrol the light and perceived height of the main swimming area. During compeitions, the fabric would be taut in order to give swimmers the idea of a tall space with room for their wide strokes. During the off season, the the fabric would be loose, alowing for more natural light from above as well as a more spa-like, relaxed feeling.
The orientation of the community center is a direction response to the location of the site along an existing lake. A boardwalk area off the recreation center follows the curve of the water’s edge and connects the two elements.

Architectural Design II, Spring 2011Washington University in St. LouisCritic: Gia DaskalakisSite: St. Louis Waterfront
As true with many urban areas, the city of St. Louis is a food desert; residences have to either travel far distances or resort to limited options when it comes to obtaining fresh produce. Also a current focus in St. Louis is the lack of development surrounding the iconic Arch Grounds. By reclaiming these grounds, they can be converted to viable farmland and provide produce to city residents. This farm would become a landmark for the city, allowing consumers to see where their food was being grown as well as buy it at a marketplace, taste it at multiple restaurants, and participate in the growing process by walking through the fields and orchards. A vertical farm could feed the entire city, exposing a greater population to the benefits of local, fresh goods year-round. This down-town public urban farm could be the first of many locations of high rise farms throughout the city, used to revitalized otherwise dead land.

[ FUNCTION FOR A FINE ARTS STUDENT ]Interior Architecture, Fall 2011Danish Institute for Study Abroad, Copenhagen, DenmarkCritic: Tina Mitgaard Site: Eik Skaløes Plaza
Tasked with designing a 5mx5mx5m dorm room for a fine arts student, this space needs to provide an area for students to practice their art as well as engage with their peers and utilize the environment around them. The spece can be maximized through a central bookcase and workspace that forms a second story loft space. The 3-dorm clusters create shared outdoor spaces to encourage interactions between student.

[DCBIA COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT DAY: REJUVINATING LEDERER GARDENS ]Every year, the District of Columbia Building Industries Associal (DCBIA) chooses a site in Washington DC which has been neglected, yet as potential to become a strong community center. In 2013, I was on a team with other architects, landscape architects, contractors, and design professionals to renovation Lederer Gardens, a community garden and education center. I specifically worked on the team tasked with redesigning the growing beds and actual garden area. After 8 months of design work, we brought our drawings to life all during one community improvement day. I was able to lead hundreds of volunteers in tasks such as laying beds, building ADA raised beds, and constructing a pavilion to encourage outdoor learning.

Solheimar Eco-Village Master PlanSummer 2010Selfoss, Iceland
While living on Solheimar Eco-village in Selfoss, Iceland I was immersed in a community where I had the opportunity to work with people from around the world, with a focus on design and sustainablilty. At Sesseljuhus, center for sustainabiliy, we created a new master plan for the village, with the intention of creating a path for tourists to come and learn about the different types of energy used at Solheimar. The collages reflect new possilities for signage in order to support the master plan.
