• Born March 31, 1928 in Floral, Saskatchewan• Fifth of Nine children• Father worked as a construction worker,
mechanic, and a laborer• Very ill as a kid due to lack of a proper
nutrition• Suffered through the Great Depression• Shy and awkward

• Started skating at age 5• Practiced using pucks, tennis balls, and even
clumps of dirt• Not very good at skating.• Didn’t make a hockey team until he was 12
