Welcome to issue 3 of Goodtimes Conwy Magazine!

“Being a local business, that is still building, we are very aware that our budget (which is limited) has to be spent well. and advertising has to be chosen well. I have advertised in Goodtimes, and also done a AD Feature with them in the Denbighshire issue. I have just placed an advert in the Conwy issue, being a wedding photographer we cover the whole of North Wales, and Goodtimes is perfect for us, it is in the right places, and is read by the people that we are trying to reach. The quality of the magazine is excellent too, which when printing photographs is crucial. I would recommend Goodtimes for its quality, affordability and coverage.”

Lee Howard, Howard Portraits

‘We have been delighted with the response from our feature in Goodtimes Magazines. We have been able to promote and explain our service to a local audience throughout the whole of North Wales. The quality, content and distribution of the magazines is superb and they conduct themselves in a friendly, efficient and very professional way.’

Various recipes for Welsh rarebit include the addition of ale, mustard, ground cayenne pepper or ground paprika and Worcestershire sauce. The sauce may also be made by blending

cheese and mustard into a béchamel sauce[3][10] or Mornay sauce. Some recipes for Welsh rarebit have become textbook savoury dishes listed by culinary authorities including Escoffier, Saulnier and others, who tend to use the form Welsh rarebit, emphasizing that it is not a meat dish. In the United States, a frozen prepared sauce by Stouffer’s can be found in supermarkets”.

The XJ75 Platinum Concept is the company’s first demonstration of the design customisation potential of the striking new XJ luxury salon, emphasising the Jaguar’s dramatic interior and exterior styling themes.

“The new Jaguar XJ Platinum Concept celebrates Jaguar’s 75th Anniversary, and highlights the uniqueness of the XJ, and more broadly, the increasingly personal nature of luxury cars in today’s market,” said Mike O’Driscoll, Managing Director of Jaguar Cars. “The XJ is thoroughly modern, and captures the innovative and daring character that our founder Sir William Lyons built into every Jaguar. And the design team

clearly had some fun making their first one-of-a-kind XJ design concept in that spirit.”

Dominated by a striking white and black contrast theme that suggests precious platinum metal, the XJ75 Platinum Concept is a high-performance 470-hp 2011 Jaguar XJL Supercharged equipped with new ground-hugging front, rear and side sills. Painted a lustrous Satin Matte Pearlescent White, exterior chrome elements have been revised to either a dark chrome or gloss black. Bespoke 22-inch wheels are black and use a brushed contrast finish.

The contrast theme continues with gloss

As part of the year long celebration of Jaguar’s 75th anniversary the Jaguar design team has created the XJ75 Platinum Concept, a one-of-a-kind design project on display at the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance Concept Car.

pearlescent white air vents, veneers and diamond stitch suede inserts to the seats and headliner, all set against the backdrop of a full Jet Softgrain leather interior. Suede and leather accents are seen throughout the interior to further material enhancements.

The XJ75 Platinum Concept centre console houses a bespoke clock developed and designed in partnership with the Bremont Watch Company. An independent British company, Bremont creates beautifully engineered and designed mechanical watches hand assembled in Switzerland.

“From a pure design perspective, the XJ75 Platinum Concept is foremost about emphasising the striking proportion and presence of the new XJ, with a distilled black and white theme, which conjures up the sense of precious platinum,” said Jaguar XJ Chief Designer Giles Taylor. “At the same time, the pure sporting character of XJ is brought to the fore by keeping the car’s clean graphic approach and further lowering its stance.

“On the inside, we played up the XJ’s combination of high-end materials and British flair to really have some fun. The XJ75 Platinum

Concept is a design exercise that shows our vision of customization as an inspiration for those enthusiasts who have a taste for strong individuality and visual confidence in their luxury automobiles.”

Performance on the XJ75 Platinum Concept is derived from its 5.0-litre Supercharged direct-injection V8 with 470 horsepower and 424 lb.-ft of torque. Entertainment is provided by a 1,200-watt Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system with 20 speakers powered through 15 channels and state-of-the-art sound processing technology.

“CoMEDY Manna FRoM HEaVEn” Independent Due to overwhelming public demand, the Autumn leg of the tour kicks off with an 8 night run in Edinburgh at the International Conference, and continues until the end of November, taking in over 50 venues nationwide.

“PoWERHoUsE” MetroIn his last show, Rhod punched a shop-assistant over the duvet tog-rating system and went berserk over a mince

pie. Stung by accusations that he over-reacts, Rhod sets out on an emotional rollercoaster of a journey to discover the truth. Is he, as he believes, a visionary in a sea of closed minds, or has he, as everyone else believes, got anger-management problems?

“VIRtUoso PERFoRManCE…PassIonatE anD sPaRKLInGLY FUnnY” ChortleOn TV screens, Rhod recently hosted ‘Never Mind The Buzzcocks’ (BBC2), and ‘Live At The Apollo’ (BBC1), and has also made multiple appearances on ‘8 Out Of 10 Cats’ and ‘Mock The Week’ (BBC 2). He has just finished a new series entitled ‘Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience’ (BBC2), which sees him trying his hand at ‘everyday jobs’, ranging from a bin man to a hairdresser, to mum-for a day and a soldier in an overnight exercise in the Brecon Beacons. His recent sitcom for Radio Two entitled ‘Rhod Gilbert’s Leaving Llanbobl’ broadcast in 2008 and Rhod is now busy developing the show into a TV sitcom with Babycow. He continues to present his own weekly live show on BBC Radio Wales every Saturday’ from 11am-1pm and has also appeared on ‘Loose Ends’, ‘Just A Minute’ and ‘4 At The Fringe’ (BBC Radio 4).

“EXHILaRatInG stanD UP…sUBLIME stoRYtELLInG” scotsmanRhod’s rant about lost luggage is one of the hottest stand-up clips on YouTube – attracting almost 9 million viewers. According to leading comedy website Chortle, Rhod appears at number six on its top ten comedy clips list and is the only British comedian featured. His stand-up DVD, ‘Rhod Gilbert & The Award Winning Mince Pie’ was released in November and was the highest selling debut DVD release of the year, and the third best-selling stand-up title of the year, behind Michael Mcintyre and Lee Evans.

In 2010 cancer was the world’s top killer and will touch each and every one of us in our lifetime. It is a global issue in need of support from a worldwide network. In 2007, LHSF was co-founded by leukemia survivors Mike Peters of the Welsh rock band The Alarm and President of CSI Entertainment James Chippendale who believe that awareness, early detection and proper treatment should not be a luxury and wanted to find a way to ensure that all people have access to the same resources that saved their lives. With headquarters in Denver, CO and chapters in Dallas, Peru, United Kingdom and Australia, the Love Hope Strength Foundation has performed concerts on 6 continents in just two year’s time. We led musical pilgrimages to remote venues such as the base camp of Everest, the top of The Empire State Building, the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, and the glacier of Kilimanjaro and reach out through the

‘GOODTIMES is a great Magazine for us to be in as it reaches out to audiences in our catchment area who we have found it difficult to reach with other advertising methods. I am aware of the growing number of outlets that the magazines are being distributed to, and it is great to see how much in demand they are, a real bonus for us! I look forward to working with GOODTIMES in the future as it is now an important part of our marketing campaigns for all our shows.’

His undoubted talent has enabled Lee to travel around the world playing the game he loves. ‘I have been very lucky to play in many different Countries and some of the best golf courses around.’ When you examine his achievements,

you quickly realise that there is nothing ‘lucky’ about Lee, his talent has seen him claim some of the amateur golf world’s most prestigious awards, starting in 1990 when he became the North Wales Boys Championship winner.

This was just the start as the years that followed saw Lee win many more titles and represent Wales in tournaments all over the world, including being a member of the first Welsh team in 70 years to win the Home Internationals when they were held in Royal St Davids in 2002, and a member of the Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup squads in 2001 & 2003.

After turning Professional in 2004, Lee became frustrated at the lack of sponsorship needed to realise his true potential, with each year becoming more and more of a struggle to secure the funding needed for travel to play in the events required.

Looking back Lee has no regrets saying ‘I had a fantastic time travelling to different Countries playing Golf, it’s what you dream of as a youngster, i’ve played with and against some fantastic players on some of the best courses around the world and made lots of friends, what is there to feel regret about.’

Lee is now Married and has two children and spends his time working in the Rhos-On-Sea golf shop as head professional as well as other business interests.

Lee Harpin is currently the Head Golf

Professional & Golf manager at Rhos-On-Sea Golf Club.

Lee enjoyed many years as a successful

Youth and Amateur player before turning

professional in 2004.

Lee Harpin.

If I said to you that once a week I stand in a tent, wearing a pair of paper knickers, and a rather fetching mop cap whilst my friend and business partner sprays me all over with a cold solution, “I bet you think I am in need of help”. However, despite the fact that my friends and clients think I am a bit dippy, I am in fact having a spray tan.

You see I used to worship the sun, I would lie for hours covered in coconut oil, and sometimes even used foil to deflect the suns rays onto my skin (sorry mum, that is where it went) in my quest to be browner than my mates. If the sun was not blessing me with its presence I would head to the sun bed shop and get my tan.

But as the years went by I found an easier, quicker and more reliable way of getting that sun kissed look I adore so much.

We all have a friend who has a tanning disaster or maybe you have had one yourself. I hope I can help you to get sunless tanning right the first time and also reassure that the days of the orange tan are numbered provide you do your homework.

I am asked so many questions about tanning and the most common are:

1. Will I be very dark or very light? No, you won’t be unless you want to be! A good tanning company will have a range of solutions that the therapist can choose from to suit your skin exactly.

2. Will I be orange? No, you won’t be if the therapist uses a product that contains no orange tones and/or also chooses a solution to suit you.

3. Will it last?Yes it will, around 5-7 days IF you follow your aftercare advice correctly.

Firstly you need to find a therapist, so ask your friends and also go into the salon and have a look around, ask lots of questions and find out what variety of tans they offer. If the therapist is

disinterested or vague about the solutions they use then go somewhere else. The key to a great tan is to find a great therapist, one that you feel comfortable with.

Secondly preparation is the key. If you leave the salon (or end the phone call with no advice then call back and ask for some and if they are not accommodating cancel your booking and go elsewhere.

Thirdly, try to relax during the tan, it will only take around 10-15 minutes for a spray tan, a good therapist will understand if you are nervous and also be more then happy to explain things to you.

Lastly, make sure you get your aftercare advice. If they take your money and offer you very little or no advice other than “wash it off in 8-12 hours” you need to go elsewhere next time.

Aftercare is vital to a good tan and my top tips are:

1. Do not come into contact with any water whilst the tan is taking.

2. Shower the tan off when the time is up. Don’t be tempted to leave it on for longer than the therapist has suggested.

3. Moisturise EVERY day preferably with an oil free moisturiser, but any is better than none.

4. Exfoliate the skin gently EVERY day from day 4 to help the tan fade naturally and gradually.

Sunless tanning is a great alternative to a real tan and done properly looks fantastic. Why not give it a whirl? You never know, you may even be converted!

23-25 September sees the arrival of the Four Nations Women’s Handball, with Great Britain hosting a Four Nations Tournament competing against Italy, Portugal and Switzerland. Two matches each day will ensure there is always something to watch, but GB will be hoping to take victory in the event having already beaten Portugal this year. This is followed by the beginning of the BBL (British Basketball League) on 26 September, when Mersey Tigers take on the 2009/10 Champions Newcastle Eagles in an eagerly anticipated tie.

World-class sports however does not stop there, with the 2010 World Netball Series running from 19-21 November, bringing together the world’s top six teams including Australia, New Zealand, England, Jamaica, Malawi and South Africa to battle it out in

the arena bowl. Followed closely behind will be the return

of the British Supercross Championship on 27 November, once again sculpting over 2000 tons of earth into an extreme indoor race track with huge jumps and moguls known as woops, adding further to an unforgettable night of edge-of-your-seat entertainment.

And if you’re not a sports fan, there’s plenty more to see at the Echo Arena including The MOBO Awards (20 Oct), Doctor Who Live! (2-3 Nov), OMD (4 Nov), Paul Weller (8 Dec), Diversity (10 Dec), John Bishop (17-20 Dec), Alexandra Burke (8 Feb), Boyzone (21 Feb), plus much more!
