Dear Parishioners,
Happy Independence Day! I hope you are having a terrific 4th of July weekend! As I mentioned last week, we are beginning with a new Mass schedule, effect tomorrow:
The new Mass schedule:
WEEKDAYS (beginning Monday, July 6th): 8 AM and 5:30 PM Masses. The 8 AM will be live streamed. SATURDAYS: 8 AM and 5:30 PM vigil Mass The 8 AM will be live streamed. SUNDAYS (beginning July 12th): 8 AM, 9:30 AM, 11 AM and 12:30 PM (bilingual) and 5:30 PM (Life Teen). The 9:30 AM Mass will be live streamed.
We will try this new schedule and make accommodations as necessary. In an effort to keep these Masses, we will need a sufficient number of trained volunteers. Safety is paramount and we cannot do this without proper sign-in, seating and disinfecting.
Our Drive Thru Food drive for the hungry takes place on Saturday, July 11th in the parking lot from 10 AM – Noon. Please consider donating nonperishable food items for the less fortunate and receive a blessing at the same time.
Cedar Sinai has been partnering with Holy Family through community outreach. They are conducting a health survey among the Filipino community that will help them learn more about cancer health disparities. Please see page 8 in the bulletin for more information.
I was very much saddened to read about the toppling of some statues of Saint Serra, also known as Padre Serra or Father Serra. Many people have been led to believe that he is not saintly at all and that his attempts to convert people to Catholicism and European culture were done by confining them to missions up and down the coast. They believe that natives who tried to escape were captured and subject to beatings. Indigenous beliefs and customs were banned.
Is that all really true? He has been praised by some and condemned by others. He was canonized by Pope Francis. Saint Serra is a man who made a lot of sacrifices on behalf of the indigenous people and loved them with pure intent. For a nuanced perspective of this complex saint, I recommend going to Google and type in https://www.ncronline.org/blogs/faith-and-justice/junipero-serra-saint-or-not Happy 4th!! Fr. Jim Bevacqua, Pastor 818-247-2222 x225 [email protected]

C O M P A R T E L A C A R G A
¿A quién volcarnos entonces?
