FROM THE RPOS DIRECTORPardon our dust! Normally a source of frustration, these constructions signs are a source of excitement for us here are RPOS. They mean refreshment for our facilities, our services and your experiences.

As you move through the city you’ll see evidence of those efforts all around you. From new murals at the Berkley Pool to a new computer lab at Young Terrace Community Center, RPOS is working hard to make your experiences a positive and encouraging as you travel the road to a healthier you.

Work recently completed earlier this fall includes the beautiful new entry plaza at Bay Oaks Park and the brand new kitchen at Berkley Community Center to accommodate the popular community events that keep on growing. And much more is planned! Beginning this winter, RPOS will begin pool enhancement projects at Northside Pool and the Norfolk Fitness and Wellness Center.

We understand that the needs of our residents are ever-changing and we strive to accommodate those, bringing you an ever-growing list of opportunities. Now get out and play!

Sincerely,

Darrell R. Crittendon, DirectorRecreation, Parks & Open Space

FACILITY SPOTLIGHT:BERKLEY COMMUNITY CENTER

As part of ‘refreshing’ activities, the kitchen at Berkley Community Center recently received some major upgrades. From the annual neighborhood Thanksgiving feast to family reunions, the center is a bustling place.

“The center offers much to the community, “ said Michael Ivy, Recreation Specialist at Berkley Community Center, “and the kitchen is a big part of that.”

Upgrades include a larger stove, renovated range hood, commercial refrigerator, ice machine, stainless steel sinks, countertops, stainless steel backsplash, cabinets, and more. The layout was upgraded to allow for ease of access and better food prep flow, from cooking, to serving, to cleaning. The renovations, begun in late July of 2015, were completed in early November and celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony as a kick-off to a popular seniors’ night event.

ALL ACCESS PASS TO FUNIt’s never been easier to get out and play in Norfolk! With pricing that can’t be beat, your RPOS Facility Use ID Card entitles you to access at the city’s 18 recreation centers and five pools. Cards valid for one year. Visit Norfolk.gov/play for details.
