Their latest custom home build on Terrace Wood Crescent in Deer Ridge is no different.

When you first walk in to the wide-open foyer, your eye is drawn up, up, up not only to the second level, which is open above, but also into the great room adjacent to the kitchen where a fireplace is the focus on a feature floor-to-ceiling stone wall. At the top of the great room, it meets a beautiful waffle ceiling – a feature found in many GoldenEye homes, although each one is still unique with its own special traits.

“This house flows nicely,” says Larry of this family-friendly abode. “It’s traditional with a modern twist.”

Natural light streams into two front rooms through large windows installed by Golden Windows Ltd. making the white living room bright and inviting. Across the way, the light really sets off the art in the dining room. Created and installed by local artist Catherine Paleczny, the wall art (hand-fired in her own kiln) represents a school of fish and is a refreshing change from typical hangings and paintings. She created the work while in residency in China.

Just off the dining room is a butler’s pantry, complete with wine fridge, plenty of storage and beautiful stained glass doors by Kara’s Stained Glass. Kara’s work can be found elsewhere in the home, too, including in the nearby main-floor laundry and mudroom, which is connected to the garage. Eleisha Perez of Elle Danielle Design says she was able to step up simple areas with stained glass. Continued on page 40

Across the way, behind the stairs, is a main-floor office or den tucked just out of the way. The adjacent powder room is designed to be super convenient for anyone who works from home. The den space is also big enough to be used as an additional bedroom and is another great example of incorporating lots of natural light: it has windows on two walls.

The star room of the main floor, the kitchen, features a large granite island, appliances from TA Appliances and Barbecues and beautiful white cabinetry by Chervin Kitchens & Bath Inc. There’s plenty of room for an eat-in table, plus the length of the island is perfect for pulling up a few stools. The island is lit by pretty pendant lights from The Lighting Shoppe, which is where most other fixtures were sourced as well.

The kitchen walks out to a back patio. Prestige Landscaping & Stonework Inc. handled all of the home’s landscaping and Premier Fencing & Backyard Solutions Ltd. installed a high-gloss black wrought iron fence. Not only does it look clean and modern without boxing in the space, but it’s manufactured in Canada and is of the highest quality.

Perez has helped both Ron and Larry pick pieces for their own homes in the past. She was thrilled to be asked to help decorate and stage this model home and prepare it to show to the community. She also chose all the tiles and finishes for the home, so the design is cohesive and fresh.

“It’s a traditional home but it still has that new luxury feel,” says Perez. “It sparkles!”

Perez approached the “wide open yet cosy” home with the same principles the Palecznys used to build it – with a family in mind.

She made use of all of the natural light and the open spaces by incorporating fresh, bright colours, modern prints and casual furniture.

Upstairs, three spacious bedrooms plus a large master suite offer private escapes for everyone in the family, plus an open landing area with enough space for shelving, a desk area or a comfy piece of furniture. All of the upper-level rooms are finished with plushy carpet from Panagos & Van Flooring.
