Good industry practicesrecommended
In order to mitigatecorrosion in building services, good industry practices arerecommended.
Externally located airconditioning condenser unitswith copper or aluminiumfins should be washedregularly with fresh water toensure that deposited saltsand grime are removed frommetal surfaces susceptible toatmospheric corrosion.
If metal surfaces are notwell-protected with goodpaint coatings, then additionalprotection against corrosionshould be applied to metalsurfaces, for example, usingaerosol-applied corrosionprevention compounds.
Consideration should begiven to coating fln-fancondensers with a good coatingto insulate any dissimilar metal
contacts, particularly if a dampenvironment prevails.
Good-quality coatings shouldalso be applied to the internalcabinet surfaces of heat pumpsand air conditioners.
A detailed understanding ofwater treatment requirementsin a building, based uponwater quality, equipmentdesign, construction materialsand operational practices, isessential to ensure coolingplant reliability.
Effective water treatmentservicing and monitoringprograms designed to minimisecorrosion, deposition, andmicrobial problems canhave a positive impact onsystem performance which isimportant for cost-effectiveoperation of H VAC plant.

Effective, intelligentand safe vacuum lifting
Stratalign Limited are New Zealand sales and service agentsfor two brands of European Vacuum lifters. Vaculex VacuumSystems from Sweden and Fezer Vacuum Lifters fromGermany are both among the world leaders in their fields.Vacuum is increasingly being recognised as the ideal method oflifting almost any item in a safe, gentle and effective manner.Steel sheets, timber panels, glass, bags/sacks, cartons, drums, and every other conceivable item, airtight or porous, can bemoved around the production area single handedly with ease. The wide range of vacuum and mechanical gripping tools offersapplication-oriented systems and individual handling solutionsfor different goods. Because no up/down buttons are requiredfor the balance function, the user has prefect control of thehandling process without any physical effort. This increasesproductivity and also helps to maintain employee's health.
As a solution to a long standing challenge, Cabtec Ltdpurchased a Fezer vacuum lifter from Stratalign, for processingsheets of board through a CNC machine. Prior to the purchase, the process had required manual handling, which in today'senvironment, is not a sustainable option. More than one optionfor this solution was investigated by Cabtec with the decisionbeing a vacuum lifter as the winning choice. Cabtec's PeterBurgess recalls, "Vacuum lifter options were then investigatedand an approach was made to Stratalign. Cabtec selectedStratalign as the winning supplier, based on their ability toprovide the technical and professional advice, along with whatCabtec considered, a 'top quality product for a competitiveprice'. This great investment has served Cabtec well andwe would recommend these very good quality lifters to anyprospective buyer. The 'ease of operation' is facilitated by thevery smooth running bearings and movement points, integral tothis structurally sound piece of kit." Peter continues, "From theday the order was placed, the Stratalign team kept us updatedwith progress, to the day the machine was installed. Theinstallation process was organised in such a way, by Stratalign, that it caused absolute minimal disruption to a very busyworking environment during normal working hours."
Fezer's range of units is broad. The VacuPowerlift tube lifterscome with 5-150kg capacity and are suitable for steel, plastic, glass, sacks, cartoons, and finished product. VacuBoy lifterswere designed for the horizontal transport, swiveling, andturning over of loads up to 2000kg, e.g. steel sheets/plates,aluminium sheets, glass. The VacuGiant is capable of horizontaltransport up to 40 tonnes and swiveling up to 15 tonnes. TheVacuCoil lifter handles paper and steel coils. The lifter seriesVacuPoro and VacuWood are suitable for porous workpiecesand planks and gluelam beams respectively.
Vaculex's tube lifters are designed for lifts between fiveand 200kg. Since the suction foot is always dimensioned inaccordance with the vacuum lift tube, the user does not riskdropping lifted items that are too heavy. If the weight is toomuch, the tube lift will simply not lift the article. This reducesthe risk of personal injury and damaged goods. Go to www.demm.co.nz/enquiry quote: D120534
