From the Principal’s Desk
The Senior Student Subject selection night
held on 20th June was welcomed by both
parents and students. It is so important for
students to create the best pathway through
the senior school. The night gave ample
opportunity for parents and students to interact
with staff and find out more about the Higher
School Certificate and courses available at
Woolgoolga High. Thanks to Mrs Young and
Mr Allen for their quality presentations and
information dissemination.
We held a special refugee assembly last week.
The entertainment was exceptional with our
African Drumming group delivering an exciting
performance. Thank you to the large number
of students who helped put the
performance and the thought
provoking slideshow together. The
special guest Dios Ininahazwe, an
African refugee had spent a great
deal of time in a refugee camp and
gave an inspiring insight into what it
means to be a refugee.
Congratulations to our sporting elite, Woolgoolga High School won the Mid North Coast Athletics carnival with 600 points, our nearest rival was Toormina High with 431 points. Well done! Congratulations also to our Zone athletics champions Lachlan Arthur 16 Years, Matthew Gray 15
Years, Jordan Gusman 18 Years and Nicole Gusman 17 Years. Year 12 had a Movies and Pizza night last Tuesday, Thanks to Kerrie Hall the Year 12 adviser for organising this important event! Socialisation and getting along with peers in informal situations is such an important part of schooling. I had the opportunity to speak at the Woolgoolga Rotary Club dinner last Monday night and I would like to say that we are very lucky to have such a supportive and active Rotary Club. The club supports many students and activities across the school. I was treated to an excellent performance last Wednesday night. The major Trial HSC Dance performances were delivered very professionally by our students. Tarra Worth (one of our joint enrolments from Coffs Harbour High), Kimberley Dean, and Natasha Turner performed and created some outstanding choreography. Thanks to Claire O’Halloran for her work in helping to create these outstanding performances. Below is a request for parents and caregivers to participate in an online survey.
The survey has been designed to gauge interest in introducing stage 5 (Years 9 and 10) VET courses
Vocational Education and Training (VET)
Parent Survey
Coffs Harbour High School, Toormina High
School, Orara High School, Woolgoolga High
School and Coffs Harbour Senior College are
joining forces to investigate gaps and opportunities
in the delivery of Vocational Education and
Training courses at school for students in Years 9
through to Year 12. At present all schools in the
region offer a range of VET courses to students in
Years 11 and 12.
What is VET?
Vocational Education and Training refers to
education and training that focuses on delivering
skills and knowledge required for specific
industries. It is a learning option for young people
in years 9 through to year 12.
Participating in VET can:
provide credit points towards the
attainment of the NSW HSC and/or the attainment of a nationally recognised VET qualification
support student’s transitions to
employment, vocational and higher education pathways.
Allow students to commence training in
specific industry courses to gain a head start on future vocational training.
As part of this process all schools in the region are
asking parents to voluntarily complete an online
survey about Vocational Education and Training. If
you could assist us we would appreciate it if you
could follow the links outlined below and submit
your responses. The survey takes approximately 2
minutes to complete and all responses are
anonymous.
Step 1: Open your web browser on the internet
Step 2: Enter the following link into the web
browser http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/

Step 3: Answer the ten multiple choice
questions and submit your responses.

UNIFORM REMINDERS
Leave Pass for Sport
Students and Parents are reminded that School Sport is a compulsory requirement for the School Certificate.
Students who cannot avoid an appointment on a Wednesday afternoon during sport time must follow the correct procedure to leave school grounds.
Students must bring a note from home and submit to Head Teacher Admin (Ms Nurm) who will be outside the deputy’s office before school on Wednesday morning.
After approval for leave is granted by the Head Teacher Admin students take their note to the front office where a ‘leave pass’ will be given to the student stating the time they will be departing school grounds.
Students may leave school grounds at the time the ‘leave pass’ states.
Failing to follow the above procedure may result in your child having fractional truancy on the record and a demotion in the school welfare merit system.
The WHS P & C meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7.00pm
