Sharing the good news of God’s Love through his Son to our local community and world!

    Plan of Salvation:

John 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his

only begotten Son, that whosoever shall believein him should not perish, but have everlasting

    life.

Romans 10:9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the

Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart thatGod hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt

    be saved.

A Message From Good News Press

The Christian message is often re-ferred to as the "Gospel," whichmeans "good news." Specifically, itis the good news about Jesus —  whoHe is, what He has done, and what

He offers. Essentially, the messageis that Jesus was God in the flesh, that He came into the world to rec-oncile humanity to Himself, andthat his salvation is freely offered toeach person who will respond infaith. The Gospel message explainsthat salvation is only possiblethrough the Crucifixion and Resur-rection of Jesus. Through his sacri-fice, Jesus paid the price for our sin-fulness (rebellion against God), thus

offering us forgiveness. Thenthrough his Resurrection He con-quered death, removing it as thepenalty for our sin and replacing it

with the offer of eternal life that isonly available from Him to all thosethat place their faith in Him.

Authentic Manhood in the End Times

    By Howard Green

A narrative drilled into our heads every day by pop

-culture, the media, Hollywood, and even people in

our own circles has become the “norm.” The broadsummary of the narrative is this: All men are prettymuch alike and they all live and behave in the sameway. I suspect that I’m not alone in my belief thatthe world’s idea of what a real man is couldn’t bemore flawed. As a Christian man, I want to expose the world’s

notion of manhood for what it is—a lie. I also wantto encourage brothers in Christ everywhere to liveout an authentic manhood in these last days. Before we dig in, I want to address sisters in Christ. We know you as wives, moms, daughters, sisters, aunts, and friends. As you read this article for men, please understand it is meant to encourage you aswell. The world tells you the same pack of liesabout men. As believers, we know this isn’t thetruth. The continuous defamation of the roll and charac-

ter of men is unrelenting. Please remember that weneed your prayers, support, and encouragement.

Wives please pray for your husbands. Moms please

pray for your sons. Grand moms please intercedefor your Grandsons. Aside from the Lord, Bible believing women are the greatest asset we have.

If you are a Christian teenage young lady or youngwoman, please remember that you belong to theLord. Christian guys are your brothers. Be an ex-ample of kindness, modesty, and true beauty that isso rare and hard to find these days. You will besuch an encouragement to your brothers in Christ. “But understand this, that in the last days there willcome times of difficulty, For people will be loversof self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,

heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self -

control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reck-less, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure ratherthan lovers of God,  having the appearance of god-liness, but denying its power” (2 Timothy 3:1-5). Men, we live in dark days and the onslaught of evilis growing by the day. I began to notice this defam-ing of the roll of men start in the 1970s and it reallytook hold in the 1980s. Now in the last decade orso, it

    How To Be Saved -

Romans Road ToSalvationRomans 3:23"For all have sinned, and come short of the

glory of God."  Every person who has ever lived on Earth hassinned and fell short of God’s expectations, except for the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 6:23a "For the wages of sin is death..."

We were all on our way to Hell becausethere is a price to be paid for sin. It is a physi-cal and spiritual death and eternal separationfrom God. This eternal separation also in-cludes sinners being eternally lost and castinto the Lake of fire.

Romans 6:23b"...but the gift of God is eternal life through

Jesus Christ our Lord."  The good news is we can be saved from this

death and separation from God. Eternal life isa gift from God but only available throughthe Lord Jesus Christ. He is the only way.

Romans 5:8"But God commendeth his love toward us, inthat, while we were yet sinners, Christ diedfor us."  Man was not deserving of God, we were notrighteous but we all were sinners. But Godloved us so much that while we were yet do-ing our things, going our own ways, deep insin, Christ died for us. He bore the penalty

    for all of our sins.

Romans 10:9,10"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouththe Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thineheart that God hath raised him from thedead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heartman believeth unto righteousness  ; and withthe mouth confession is made unto salva- tion."  Confess the Lord Jesus and believe in yourheart that God raised him from the dead, sothat God can save you.He doesn’t care about what sins you havedone in the past. He loves you and wants tosave you. Jesus Christ paid the completeprice, taking all of mankind’s sins unto him-self on the cross. We have to no longer beslaves to sin and death.

Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call uponthe name of the Lord shall be saved."Call on the Lord Jesus and ask him to saveyou. God wants to. He loves you!

Laurie and I have just watched thetransition of our precious Mother fromthis world to the next; watched herstep into the presence of Jesus andinto her heavenly reward. Jan Crouch, known around the world as MommaJan, has gone home.

Those who battled for the Kingdom ofGod knew her as a fighter  — someonewho didn’t give up, someone whofought relentlessly to get the Gospelaround the world.

Viewers of the Trinity BroadcastingNetwork knew her as someone who

partnered with Paul Crouch in thelaunch and expansion of TBN, and assomeone who came into their homesfor over 40 years.

To thousands of orphans around theworld, and those orphaned in spirit, she was Momma Jan, quick with asmile, a gift, and a word of encourage-ment.

To a select few she was not a televi-sion figure, but was sister, wife, Mom,or Grandma — an integral part of afamily.

Jan Crouch loved many things, butmost of all she loved Jesus, and nowhas seen Him face to face and has ex-

perienced His grace in fullness. She has taken a piece of our heartswith her, but it's so wonderful to knowthat Paul and Jan Crouch are togetheragain, in the arms of Jesus.

Now in the last decade or so, it seems like thereis an all out frontal assault on men. Hollywoodfor the most part, likes to portray men as poorlymannered, sex crazed, egotistic bumbling idiots. Thinking of television in just the past few yearsor so, men have been portrayed like goofballs inshows such as:  Married With Children, Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond , and The Kingof  Queens to name just a few. Think about the men the actors in these shows

portray. They are usually very immature, self -absorbed, simple minded, and foolish. The hus-

bands and fathers portrayed on these shows arereduced down to having the same intellect as asideshow clown. I have news for Hollywood; theworld doesn’t dictate how Christian men shouldlive—only Jesus can do that. Reality shows are the big thing now. The Hills, The Bachelor ,  Real Housewives (of wher-ever),  Jersey Shore, and  Keeping up with the Kardashians are just a sampling of shows that

highlight what a degenerate mess this world isin. Most of the “males” on these shows aresimply boys who know how to shave, in myopinion. It’s not just the television shows, because thecommercials have some of the most sexuallycharged, provocative, and debased content avail-able for all to see. I say that because althoughI’m not a sports fanatic, occasionally I willwatch a big game like the Super Bowl or WorldSeries with my sons or daughters.

One minute you are seeing the replay of a greattouchdown and before you know it,there’s a  scantily dressed woman on the screenin what is supposed to be a commercial aboutcars. Wardrobe malfunctions, sexual innuendo, and materialism are the rule—not the exception.I used to turn my head, now it’s just better toturn the filth off. I had the opportunity to go to an IndianapolisColts game last year. I was with another guy andwe were having a great time. All of a sudden,

the huge fifty foot tall television screens on thefour sides of the stadium zoomed in on thecheerleaders who had very little on in the way ofclothing. I simply turned away and decided that looking atmy bag of peanuts was irresistible! As funny asit sounds, I wanted the young man next to me toknow that my eyes are reserved for my wife andmy heart belongs to her and the Lord. I didn’t put on a big show or overreact. I simply looked

the other way; it wasn’t what the usual male re-action is supposed to be according to the world’s(low) standards. “I have made a covenant with my eyes; howthen could I gaze at a virgin?” (Job 31:1). The point is this: The world sends the wrongmessage to our sons and daughters: Money cansatisfy all of your needs. Men are cool if theydrink a particular brand of beer. Youngmen, this is the kind of woman you need. Younglady, if you dress like this you will get attention.

The list of wrong messages never ends. I wantmy children and all of our youth to know thatthey don’t have to live the lies that the worldsells them. Sin can be pleasurable for a season, but it alwaysleads to death. This world system is corrupt withlies from the father of lies, so I want to disen-gage from it at all costs. Notice I said“disengage” the world, not the people in theworld. To me, that is one of the most exiting parts about being a Christian man. Guys, you

and I have the opportunity to be salt and light ina very dark place. Do you understand how rare, distinct, and revo-lutionary living for God’s glory is—in a societythat is fixated on self? If you live as a disciple ofJesus, you will be like an exile or stranger froma different planet. Engaging people with the loveof Christ and living a holy life as a man of Godin this dark society is not what the world expectsthe average man to do. As Christian men, we are expected to act and

behave a certain way. When we walk accordingto the Spirit and not the flesh, we will be likealiens compared to the men who live for theirown pleasure. There have been movements suchas Promise Keepers and others that bring mentogether under the banner of Christianity. I don’thave a positive or negative opinion of men’sconferences because at the end of the day, it isthe Lord who looks at the fruit of such effortsand that’s what matters.

I do believe men should be part of a localchurch. Men should be involved in corporateBible study or a small group. We should alsohave brothers in our lives to encourage us, andto whom we mutually accountable. Iron sharp-ens iron and there is something very uniqueabout men getting together to lift up Jesus’name. I can hear some of you guys saying, “Howard, this is men’s ministry 101,we do all  of this.” Iget it, but I want to reiterate the importance of

fellowship because I believe one of the ways theenemy tries to devour us is through isolation ortrying to go it alone. We need brothers bothyoung and old in our lives with whom to walkthis Christian walk   You are building up othermen in the faith by the example of your walkwith the Lord. There is something even bigger than fellowshipwith other brothers, and that’s your personalwalk with Jesus. When small group time is over, the conference has ended or the men’s Bible

study breaks for the season, you will still need tostand firm. When it comes right down to it ba-sics, it’s my own walk with the Savior that willmatter for eternity. Personal integrity, character, behavior, habits, and lifestyle are all governed by the will of Godif I’m

truly a Christian man. Reading the Bible, praying, and engaging in fellowship continuallywith Jesus are the things that will make me aman who lives to glorify God.

The Blessings of Being Persecuted for the Cause of Christ Continued from Page 2 by Sean Gooding

So I ask: Are you ready? Am I

ready to suffer for the Lord? For

most of us the answer is more

worry for our children and wives.

If we die, so be it but we would

hate to see our loved one suffer

and by standing for the Lord we

    put them in harm’s way.

“Blessed are those who are per-

    secuted for righteousness”

    (verse 10).

It is important that we suffer for

the right reasons. If we are ar-

rested for evil then our suffering

is just. In Romans 13:1, we are

instructed to be “subject to the

authorities” as they are appoint-ed by God. However we are

clearly taught in the book of

    Daniel that our submission to

civil authority only goes as far

as their submission to God’s au-

    thority.

    When confronted with God’s law

vs. Man’s law we are always

called to obey God. There wasa time when obeying God’s law

was respected in the lost world

but as we move toward the re-

turn of the Lord, the respect for

God’s law and for those who

subject themselves to it is erod-

    ing.

Foxe’s Book of Martyrs is a

good resource for us to learn

    about the sufferings that many

of our brothers and sisters en-

dured for their belief in Christ.

    There is another book called

Jesus Freaks put out by a band

named DC Talk. It gives an ac-

count of the suffering a lot of

    martyrs. Suffering for the name

of Jesus is nothing new and it is

    coming to North America.

The truth is for 2000 years—

    every day somewhere in the

    world— someone has been suf-

fering for naming the name of

Jesus. The attack on the people

of the Lord has been full on for a

long time. It is now beginning to

reach the shores of the “First

    World” and it is uncomfortable.

For the most part we still wor-

ship freely in North America. Yet

in contrast to us here in North

     America the BBC World News

    reported in November 2013 that

about 100,000 Christians dieeach year under the category of

    martyr. Time magazine reported

in January 2014 that the number

    of “martyrs” had doubled from

2012 -2013, the majority if these

    happening in Syria.

No one suffers for the Lord with-

out reward. Those who have the

privilege of suffering for the Lordare promised the kingdom of

heaven. In verse 12 of Matthew

goes on to bolster those that will

    suffer by reminding them that

their reward will be great in

    heaven:

    “Rejoice and be exceedingly

glad, for great is your reward in

    heaven, for so they persecuted

    the prophets who were before

    you.”

It is a reminder that suffering is

to be expected in the work of

the Kingdom and it happened to

    the prophets whose writing was

    recorded in the Old Testament.

    The nation of Israel hated

    Jeremiah; they hated his

    words and actions. Zerubba-

bel was hated by the ene-

mies of Israel and they plot-

    ted his death many times.

    Elijah was hated especially

    by Ahab and Jezebel. John

the Baptist the last Old Tes-tament prophet was behead-

ed by Herod. For the Old

    Testament prophets, perse-

cution was a part of their

    lives and often the reason

    for their death.

    Of course the ultimate persecu-

tion came to our Lord and Sav-

ior who died for being a right-eous man. The Pharisees hated

    this; they hated seeing true

    righteousness and godly living.

They would rather kill off Jesus

    than repent and change their

lives, and this is the very atti-

tude of the world today. They

would rather kill off the messen-

gers of Jesus than humblethemselves and repent.

Are you ready to suffer for the

Lord? I don’t know if I am, and

each of us need to be ready in

the power of the Holy Spirit to

suffer for the truth. We must de-

pend on God to give us the

power to suffer and to endure

whatever comes our way. It iswill most often be talk, but if we

stay much longer on this fallen

planet the chance of true, hard

    core physical consequences for

believing in Jesus is a reality.

    Here is another reminder from

    Jesus in Matthew 10:21-22:

“For it is not you who speak, but

it is the Spirit of your Father who

speaks in you. Brother will be-

tray brother to death, and a fa-

ther his child; and children will

    rise up against parents and

cause them to be put to death.

You will be hated by all because

of My name, but it is the one

who has endured to the end

    who will be saved.”

Your own enemies will be theones you love the most and who

claim to love you the most. This

will be hard to swallow for many.

So, are you ready to suffer for

the Lord? I ask the Lord to grant

me the strength to be ready

when and if the time comes. I

can’t do it in my own power and

    neither can you.

    Rejoice and be exceedingly

glad, for great is your reward in

    heaven.

    Manhood Continued from Page 5

I see something in modern evangeli-calism, a pattern among men: Excus-es. Can we please stop  the obsessionwith the word  struggle? Let me preface the rest of my thoughtand tell you that I understand we areall at different places in our walk. There are differing levels of spiritual

maturity and growth. So I get it that aman who has just been saved out of along life filled with alcohol, drug, por-nography, or other addictions willhave a battle on his hands. If it weren’t for the grace of God, Iwould be right there wallowing in mysins. Pride comes before a fall and it’snot for any of us to brag that we standstrong, lest we fall into rebellion andsin. So please understand that I’m not

addressing personal trials and tempta-tions because we all have them. It’swhat we do with them, our thoughtlives, and ultimately our actions thatlead to sin. We do need to support a brother whenhe is genuinely in a struggle, in thetruest sense of the word. He needs prayer, accountability, wise counsel, and love from Christian brothers. There are some who are truly strug-

gling and we need to be there to prayfor and encourage those men. Aday  often comes when a brother’sstruggle is replaced by a growing dai-ly obedience to the Word of God  andthe wonderful the fruits of the Spirit. “Do not be conformed to thisworld  but be transformed by the re-newal of your mind, that by testingyou may discern what is the will ofGod, what is good and acceptable and

     perfect”

(Romans 2:12). What I’m addressing here is some-

thing totally different. What I am arezeroing in on here are  the guys who just doesn’t want to keep his eyes offof women who are not their wives or put down  the bottle, or take a sledge-hammer to the computer where heviews porn. This type of   guy is-n’t  struggling ; he is living in blatantrebellion of God’s Word.

Let’s see it for what it is—sin. I’veseen this pattern over and over again.Brother (fill in the blank) makes a profession of faith. He gets into men’sministry—a small group and becomesa member at church. Before long, heslips back into his old ways, cheats onhis wife, lives like he’s not a Chris-tian, and is defiant in the process.

A man who is walking with Christ istransformed by the renewing of hismind . His life is marked by a steadyincrease of Christ-likeness and holi-ness. The fruit of a life that has beentransformed by the Spirit of God he isradically different. That isn’t the case with a man whoclaims to be a believer, but lives forthis world. I agree that we should beequal parts truth and love because

that’s the model Jesus left for us. Un-fortunately, and more often than not, Isee well-meaning Christians comealongside this type of man and labelwhat he’s going through asa  struggle. I have known elders instructing Chris-tian men but are unwilling to confrontthem with the biblical reality of bla-tant sin in their lives. That is not a biblical approach. Showing fallen or

backslidden men love involves goingto a very hard place by risking thefriendship, unity, and peace at anycost in order to rescue them. Theyneed Christian men in their lives tolove them enough to risk the relation-ship and lovingly be lovingly con-fronted. I would hope that a brotherwould love my soul enough to get inmy face with biblical reality before Idestroy my marriage, family, and life.

“Better is open rebuke than hidden

love. Faithful are the wounds of afriend;  profuse are the kisses of anenemy” (Proverbs 27:5-6). “My brothers, if anyone among youwanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know thatwhoever brings back a sinner from hiswandering will save his soul fromdeath and will cover a multitude ofsins” (James 5:19-20). Manhood Continued from Page 7

“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgres-sion, you who are spiritual should restore himin a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on your-self, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For ifanyone thinks he is something, when he is noth-ing, he deceives himself” (Galatians 6:1-3). That brings me to a final point. You cannotwill, fight, manipulate or conjure up goodnessin and of yourself. It’s only “Christ in me” that

is good. Left to my own goodness and trying, Iwill fail miserably. I have to die to myself dailyand crucify the flesh if I’m to live for Jesus. That is why I said earlier that conferences, small group, men’s fellowship groups are allfine, but at the end of the day, it’s my personalwalk with Jesus and His atoning work for methat will count. I can never be good enough onmy own. “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no long-er I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And

the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith inthe Son of God, who loved me and gave himselffor me. I do not nullify the grace of God, for ifrighteousness were through the law, then Christdied for no purpose” (Galatians 2:20-21), Guys, we must live with a longing to hear,“Well done good and faithful servant?” If wesurrender our   pretend  goodness and let Christwork in and through us, He will help us in somany ways. We will be able to love our wiveslike He loves the Church. We will speak words

of wisdom into our children’s lives.

We will be better equipped as friends, teachers, pastors, and co-laborers to build-up one anoth-er; to be sober minded, grounded, and standfirm when the world around us seems to be fall-ing headlong into an abyss of immorality.Friends, take care of your walk and althoughimportant, don’t get so caught-up in family, life,or ministry to the point that you neglect yourown walk with Jesus. I want every Christian man who is reading thisto understand that we are at war. We don’t havethe time or luxury to stroll leisurely towardheaven as we live out our lives daily.  Heads up: Jesus is coming soon and the enemyknows his time is limited. Satan wants to de-vour you, destroy your family, wreck you mar-riage, and obliterate your children. Let’s get back to basics and pray for our kids daily. Weneed to pray for our wives daily. I don’t do itenough and what a blessing to miss out on.

We need to take our wives by the hand any prayfor her and over her, because there is a war rag-ing against her as well. We need to live holylives, which means living a lifestyle set apartunto God, not only because people are watching but it is God’s will and command for us. We allhave the opportunity to be a witness of the lifechanging work of Jesus. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and de-stroy. I came that they may have life and have it

abundantly. I am the good shepherd” (John

10:10). We have a responsibility to stand against thenarrative that this world tries to ram down ourthroats. Laughing at coarse jokes is what world-ly men do. Staring at the pretty lady who walks by with your friends and they pressure you bysaying, “It's okay to look, but not to touch”is  what worldly men do. We should not commit adultery in our hearts bystaring and lusting at women who are not our

wives; instead we should keep our desire onlyfor our wives and no one else. Spending moneyon yourself and worrying about “number one”instead of putting your wife and kids first iswhat many men do, but not if he is truly saved.  We need to speak life into a conversation that’sheading nowhere that is good. Before we worryabout our golf games, guys night out or what  wewant   to do, we gladly set those things aside to bless our wives by doing what she loves and doit with  a truly cheerful heart.

Be sure to be the same man behind closed doorsthat you are in public. We cannot afford to playreligious games or have an apathetic Christianwalk. We need to follow hard after Jesuswholeheartedly. Living this life for the glory ofGod alone, and not ourselves is the diametricopposite of how the world lives. Friends, we need to emulate “real men”—notthe boys in men’s clothing of today’s pop cul-ture. We need more men like Joseph, Job, Da-vid, Jeremiah, Daniel, Stephen, Peter, James,Paul, Timothy, and of course Jesus. These arereal men who lived boldly for the Father’s glo-ry. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so greata cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside everyweight, and sin which clings so closely, and letus run with endurance the race that is set beforeus, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecterof our faith, who for the joy that was set beforehim endured the cross, despising the shame, and

is seated at the right hand of the throne ofGod” (Hebrews 12:1-2). As these days grow darker prior to Jesus’ re-turn, I don’t expect the spiritual battle to abate. On the contrary, I expect the full onslaught ofSatan to come against all Christian men and ofcourse the entire Church. Make no mistake, ifyou stand and live for Jesus, you will be at-tacked. Men, let’s pray for one another, encourage oth-

ers to finish well and live as an example of au-thentic manhood in these end times. If youwould like prayer or want  to know more aboutliving for Jesus, click here. All for Him, Howard www.concerningthetimes.com
