Good morning Year 2,
And here we are in our last couple of days as Year 2! Although we may not all be
together in person, it certainly feels as though we’ve been on this unusual Year 2
journey together as a team. We are sad that it is coming to an end, but excited
about the last few activities that we will share.
The learning tasks that we send you today and tomorrow will be slightly different.
Instead of sending a range of tasks, we are going to send one project to complete
each day. We think that both will be really fun and enriching for you, and we hope
that you agree!
We thought we’d send two stories today. The first is called Breathe by Scott
Magoon. We hope that it inspires you to find some calm as you ease into the
summer holidays. The story is read by the author himself, and afterwards, he gives
a wonderful demonstration of how to draw a whale, which you can have a go at in
your own time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEpFSVlDxZo
The second story of the day is I Wish You More by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom
Lichtenheld: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_U31UZQiE0
We really do wish all of you the best for the summer holidays and for your return
to school in September.
We will be back with your final task of Year 2 tomorrow! In the meantime, don’t
forget to tune into the virtual summer concert tonight at 7pm! Even if you
didn’t manage to send in a video, you can get involved and join in with the songs.
We simply cannot wait!
From Mrs Mooney, Ms Scholl, Miss Thompson and Miss Cole
As you know, you are making the transition to Year 3, and the current Year 1s are making
the transition to Year 2. Your task today is to design and create a Guide to Year 2
for the children who will be moving up. It would be great if you could send photos of
your finished products- then we can upload them, and they will be a massive help to the
new Year 2s!
We want you to use your powers of invention and creativity, so set out your guide however
you like. Here are some ideas that may help:
• Create a leaflet with three sections, one for each topic: Toys and Games, Fire Fire
and Let’s Explore! Which learning activities, books and visits can you remember?
• Make a mini book showing a picture and giving a brief overview for each of our main
areas of learning: English, Maths and Topic. (Topic comprises Science, History,
Geography, Art, RE and PSHE. You could also include PE, Music and Mandarin.)
• OR you could choose one topic or area of learning and make a poster that focuses
on that! For example, a maths poster that tells the new Year 2s all the maths
subjects that they will learn about.
• Re-create a timetable of a typical day in the life of Year 2. Explain what happens
during each part of the day.
A guide, leaflet or poster should be informative. It should also be eye-catching and
exciting. Being imaginative with your presentation and including some pictures will help.
You could even invent a character to guide the new Year 2s! Make sure that you include
some opinions (What did you enjoy the most about year 2? What were the challenges? Do
you have any helpful tips?) Try to be reassuring and use positive language such as
“welcome”, “help” and “effort.”
Here are a range of examples of informative leaflets to inspire you (you could also look at
any Edmund Waller newsletter). Good luck, and we really hope you enjoy this task!
