More than forty chapters of the Old Testament are dedicated to the telling of his story. At least seventy-three Psalms are attributed to his pen. God made David their king. In his testimony about him God said, “I have found David, son of Jesse, to be a man after my heart, who will carry out all my wishes.”(Acts 13:22) Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Other than Jesus, the human being most mentioned in the Bible is the Old Testament character, David. More than forty chapters of the Old Testament are dedicated to the telling of his story. At least seventy-three Psalms are attributed to his pen. He has been known as a shepherd, poet, musician, warrior, king, theologian, and ancestor of Jesus. God even referred to him as being a man after God’s own heart. In spite of this very impressive resume, there is something else that stands out about the story of this larger-than-life character; David was very, very, very, human. In that way, David was no different than any of us; he was a forgiven sinner who had to live out the consequences of his own errors and shortcomings. Join us this summer as we delve into the life and writings of this pivotal Old Testament figure.

As we are now into June our summer ministries are underway. We had our first F5 and

Wednesday night worship this past week, confirmation camp and the mission trip are

coming up later in the month, and VBS is about a month and a half away. I want to

thank the congregation for their continued support of our youth programs. We raised

over $5,000 to offset the cost of Confirmation Camp and the Mission Trip. We met our

goal of the families only having to contribute half of the total cost. Thank you to the

parents who helped with the fundraising from baking to setting up events, thank you for

all the ways you helped contribute to make the events successful. Thank you to the

youth who spent countless hours serving meals, cleaning up tables and chairs, and doing dishes. And thank you

to the members of the congregation who helped by donating different parts of meals and attending the fundrais-

ers. Without your donation of time, talents, and money none of this would be possible, thank you for all you

have done.

I ask that you lift up our youth in your prayers this month. On Sunday June 17th 11 youth and 2 adults will de-

part for Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Center in Oregon, Illinois. Pray for Daniel, Ryan, Antonio, Haley, Anna-

Beth, Abigail, Meghan, Aidan, Allison, Julia, and Jake as well as Heidi and Mike. Pray that they encounter God

in new ways as they learn more about him and his love for them. Pray for their camp counselor and staff at

LOMC as they prepare to serve our youth. On June 24th 5 youth and 1 adult will depart for a week long mis-

sion trip in Green Bay, Wisconsi. Pray for those going to Green Bay for our mission trip, Holly, Aiden, Abigail,

Caitlyn, and Keith as well as Mike. Pray for those residents we will be serving and the mission trip staff as they

prepare to serve us. Finally pray for our ministry throughout the summer, each Wednesday as we engage youth

in service, Bible study and fun. Pray that they continue to encounter and see God in their lives. Amen.

Summer Faith Practices

Be a gardener. Dig a ditch, toil and sweat, and turn the earth upside down and seek the deepness and water the plants in time. Continue this labor and make sweet floods to run and noble and abundant fruits to spring. Take this food and drink and carry it to God as your true worship.

—Julian of Norwich, Christian mystic (ca. 1342-1416)
