We have successfully combined college prep academics with intensive athletic programs in ice hockey, figure skating and soccer. These Centers of Excellence are truly distinctive. Our students are consistently recruited to the top D-1 programs in the country. With this history in mind, SSM is embarking on a new athletic Center of Excellence – Golf. The Golf Center of Excellence Program will offer students an opportunity to train, develop, and compete during the 10-month school year, and prepare for college simultaneously! SSM A History of Success... What a Center of Excellence Participant Can Expect: About the Director: Mike Higdon has been a Class “A” member of the PGA since 2004. He started his professional golf career in South Florida while working with some of the top golf instructors in the world as well as players on the PGA, LPGA, Nationwide, Futures, and several mini-tours. Prior to joining SSM, Coach Higdon was responsible for founding and building the Division I Men’s and Women’s Golf Programs at Valparaiso University. He has also served as General Manager of The Course at Aberdeen in Valparaiso, Indiana and Head Golf Professional at Bardstown Country Club in Bardstown, Kentucky. • Unlimited access to the School’s 18-hole Legacy Golf Course and practice facilities directly across the street from the School

• The Legacy allows for an excellent on-course practice facility by offering a wide variety of golf experiences during its 18-hole layout.

• Indoor training facilities consisting of camera equipped hitting bays and practice putting green

• Indoor dome allowing for unrestricted short-game practice and preparation

• Planned fully dedicated indoor putting, chipping, and driving range facilities

School Facilities: Key Components of theGolf Program:•Philosophy – Each player will work individually with our PGA

Director of Golf on a daily basis. Our participants benefit from theunique combination of a college preparatory class schedule and apremier golf experience all at one campus location.

•Personalization – Each student will have a personalized rela-tionship with the Director of Golf in order to develop an individualpractice regimen specific to each golfer. The one on one attentioneach student receives will allow the program to adapt to each stu-dent’s learning style and maximize individual progress.

•Technology – Our facilities are equipped with the mostadvanced software products available to assist with the analysis ofthe golf swing and putting stroke. The data provided by theseteaching systems along with the expertise of our Director of Golfallow for individualized training sessions to be developed specifi-cally for each golfer.

•Competition – We will create a weekend tournament schedulein which our student athletes perform against nationally rankedjunior golfers on some of the best golf courses in the nation. Theschedule during the academic year will be comprised of eventshosted by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), FutureCollegians World Tour (FCWT), Mid-American Junior Golf Tour(MAJGT), and other prestigious junior tours in order to gainregional and national success and exposure.

•Physical and Mental Preparation – Shattuck-St. Mary's Schoolhas a well equipped weight training facility which our participants will beutilizing several times a week. Our golfers will benefit by working one-on-one with a fitness expert to help devise a work-out regiment specificto his or her needs. Our Director of Golf will individually work with eachgolfer to help him or her be mentally prepared for each endeavor.

•College Placement – It is our goal to place every participant in a college or university setting that is conducive to their individual learningstyle while allowing the best opportunity for continued development of their golf game. As a former collegiate coach, Mike Higdon has theresources and networks to help each student transition to collegiate golf and beyond.
