Okay Aleron. I enjoy bouncing on the couch as much as the next guy, but if were going to get through the next family album you need to take

a seat. Now, thats better. So when you were here last time we talked about Kalana and the rest of generation seven while they were in

college and about the first few years of Kalanas reign as heiress.

Well, Kalana really did get a late start when it came to having a family. She was much more focused on rebuilding the Lorian economy and

way of life in general. She had a few individuals hired to go throughout Lorian to conduct surveys to see how people in the united Loros felt

about the changes that she and the council had enacted. If it wasnt effective Kalana worked to find a solution that would be. She was exactly

what Loros needed after the war with Gal.

She tried dating a few of the

young single men in town, but

just wasnt able to commit to a

relationship long term. Theyd

always do something that set

off her violent temper and

Kalana just didnt see a reasonto forgive them. If Kalana had

one fault that really hampered

her relationships it was her

unforgiving nature.

It wasnt her temper?

No. Nothe temper got her

into trouble, mostly becauseshe made the wrong

assumptions about people and

didnt think things throughbut

Kalana could have gotten out

of a lot of it if shed forgiven the

person who wronged her the

most in her life.herself.

Really that was the heart

of the problem when it

came to her relationship

with Rhiannon. Shed

forgiven Rhia for having

Orianna long before sheforgave herself for being

wrong. Kalana was a

stubborn ox and tried to

avoid being near Rhia as

much as possible. But age

and experience had taught

Rhia a few lessons too.

Since Kalana wouldntseek her out, Rhia just

went out of her way to

bridge the gap between

them. It took considerable

time and effort, but I can

say this Rhia and Kalana

worked out theirdifferences and became

the closest of friends.

Kalana never asked people

to do things she wasnt

willing to do herself. Okay

that and she often wasnt

happy with how some of

her volunteers carried outthe tasks. But really, she

was more than happy to be

about the business of

talking with the various

residents of Loros and

checking in to see that the

measures theyd passed

were working and that thevarious cultures were

happy. I dont know how

much Lady Gem enjoyed

being pestered about the

opinions of the Dark Elves

during dinner, but you

certainly can never saythat K wasnt dedicated to

the job of leading Loros.

Running her own

successful businesses on

top of leading council

meetings really did put a

lot on Kalanas plate. But

truth be told she often

killed two birds with onestone, using the

businesses to informally

check-in with various

people. She never gave

formal surveys to

citizensjust fellow

council members such as

Gem had to deal with

that.

Wouldnt she give the

councilors advice too?

Ha! Yeahshe could be

a little pushy. Kalana

always had an opinion for

everything and didnt

hesitate to share it. But

even with her bossy

nature, most people feel

Kalana was probably one

of the best rulers Loros

has ever had.

She was quite unhappy

with the condition of

the cemeteries and so

decided to take on

measures to see them

reformed. It wasKalana who first placed

Goldweaver graves in

a local cemetery. She

decided that the best

way to initiate reform

was to place her own

relatives there to set an

example. Glydwr and

Kalis graves andportraits were the first

two to be placed. Soon

the whole community

was following Kalanas

example and the

graves of Lorian,

Waterfall Springs,

Rainbow Valley, and

Rainbow City wereonce again being given

loving care and

attention.

The main family did

take in one of the

animals that arrived

with the Matak elves.

They originally took in

Aiia who developed afondness for Toren, but

eventually took in a

puppy named Hugo.

They didnt keep Hugo

did they?

No. After Alia, had herpuppy with him the

family gave him up

since he and Alia rarely

got along.

Tristen and Kalana

still spent any freetime

together in the family

game room. Kalana of

course did not have

many free hours tospend at home with

her mother and father,

often not coming

home from work until

well after dark. Her

parents both

encouraged her to

take a little more time

for herself, but neither

was very successful in

the attempt.

Toren enjoyed

taking early

morning strolls on

the beach dividing

Loros from the

home of his teenand adult years,

Loros. Toren never

really got over

leaving the land

hed called home

for so long. He was

grateful to be backin Loros, but it

didnt stop Toren

from missing all

the friends hed left

behind.

Kalana was rarely

home during the day,

but that didnt mean

the family home was

empty. Toren and

Tristens son,daughters, Z, Edi,

and the grandkids

were frequent

visitors.

Aiden Silica also became a

regular houseguest. Hed

joined the Order of

Supernatural Creatures after

returning from college. And

during his frequent visits tothe Haven, Toren met Aiden

for the first time. The two men

hit it off instantly. Before long

Aiden was dropping in

unannounced at the Vijayakar

home. A practice, which

Kalana found quite annoying

and rude.

But Toren and Tristen both

seemed to realize Aiden was

looking for a place to belong

and always welcomed him to

the home with open arms.

And Tristen absolutely

refused to let him leavewithout having a bite to eat.

Because he was such

a regular guest, Kalana

and Aiden couldnt

help but run into each

other. Over the course

of two years, the twoworked out their initial

differences and slowly

but surely a mutual

respect and tentative

friendship was built

between them.

What did Aiden do for the

Order?

Because Aiden was from

another world he understood

most of the cultures of nearby

planets. Therefore, Rhiannon

often asked him to accompany

her when she went to seek out

information and others like

herself on these nearby worlds.

Tristen and Toren of course

were always curious to learn

new information and so they

often asked Aiden to teach

them to speak the languages,

teach them local customs, or

tell them stories of these distant

lands. And even though Kalana

tried to hide it early on, she was

quite interested in learning newthings from Aiden.

Toren and Aiden were

close werent they Ryker?

Yes. Toren had a way of

treating Aiden like a

second son. Aiden deeply

respected Toren and the

two were almost

inseparable from the

moment they met.

Toren finally found someone

worthy enough to play chess

with him. Aiden was a very

intelligent if intense young man

who could give the old fellow a

real challenge. And I cant say I

wasnt happy that the task of

playing chess with Toren each

and every evening had finally

been delegated to someone

else. I didnt mind losing. It was

that bored expression on

Torens face that really got to

me. It was almost like he wasplaying me out of curtsey. Ive

never liked chess. I only played

with Toren because he was my

best friend and I enjoyed his

company. Toren played for

similar reasons. With Aiden

filling in to play chess, Toren

and I finally after 40 years found

a new hobby, Mahjong.

Aiden was a great kid,

and I love him to death.

But hes just a wee bit

competitive.

Poor Toren started to losehis edge as he got older.

If Aiden had tried to cheat

my friend at the game of

darts 15 years earlier hed

have been caught in a

heartbeat. Of course a 15

year younger version of

Toren was also a lot lesslaid back and would have

given Aiden a look that

would have killed him on

the spot for cheating too.

All was going well in Loros.

The economy was finally on

the mend for the first time

since the days when

Glyndwr had first overthrown

the mafia. This was duelargely to the reforms that

had been made to ensure

that local authorities had

what they needed to enforce

and uphold the laws. With

these reforms in place,

Kalana began to branch out.

She decided that Loros

should begin trading goods

with other worlds. She had

been on the verge of signing

the first trade agreement

with the nearby world of

Telos, when to her dismay

talks fell through. A newleader had come to power,

one who had no interest in

continuing negotiations to

reopen the ancient trade

routes.

Kalana went home quite

disgusted and was quite

honestly a very disagreeable

person to live or work with

for several weeks. Toren

finally however, could takeno more of his daughters

unpleasant demeanor and in

a rare show of emotion

finally put his foot down Im

sorry the talks fell through,

Kalana, honestly I am. But in

this life we rarely get

everything to go our own

way. Just because

something doesnt work out

the way we planned, does

not give us the right to act

like a two year old.

If you arent happy with the situation that is fine. If you want to sulk in your room for days at a time, fine.

But do not think you can simply take out your frustrations on those of us who have done nothing to

deserve your wrath. Finally, let me give you one last piece of advice. It has been my personal experience

over the years that complaining, sulking, and throwing temper tantrums solve absolutely nothing. If you

truly want to see the ancient trade routes reopened with Telos, I would suggest taking the next available

shuttle to speak with the new ruler in person.

Kalana took her

fathers advice.

But she did put up a

bit of a fuss when the

councilors insisted

that she have a

personal escort,

especially when sherealized that Ani-Mei

convinced the others

that Aiden should go

with her. She swears

to this day, and I

agree with her, that

Ani-Mei wasconspiring to set

those two up.

Kalanas meeting with the

new Grand Elder of Telos

proved successful. He

seemed a little taken aback

by Kalana and Aidens

forceful personalities, but heagreed that reopening the

trade routes would be

beneficial for both worlds. And

so for the first time since the

elder days Loros was once

again connected to the

outside.

With their task complete,

Kalana could have easily

left Telos behind and

returned to Loros.

However, somehow she

was convinced to enjoy thelocal scenery and take

some much needed R and

R.

The trip to Telos proved

to be exactly what the

doctor ordered. Kalana

came back to Loros a

completely changed

woman. She didntseem as harried or

worn down. And to Ani-

Meis delight, Aiden and

Kalana were spending a

lot more time together.

Kalana and Aiden. Once

they got past the surface

differences found they

shared a great deal.

They both shared a love

of the outdoors and

neither was afraid to take

risks in life. They were

both quite ambitious and

valued hard work. And

deep deep down theyre

both quite sweet. Just

dont ever tell them I said

that.

Cause theyd kill you?

Precisely.

Furthermore, they are

both fiercely loyal to those

they love. Aiden was

especially protective.

What did he do?That gentleman made the

mistake of saying

something derogatory

about Toren in Aidens

range of hearing, which

for the record is about

4,000 miles.Translation, if you cant

say something nice dont

say it at all?

More of less, Al. More or

less.

Toren appreciated the

loyalty from Aiden, but

he was ever sure to

remind Aiden that

violence was not

always the answer toevery problem. He

ever encouraged

Aiden and his

daughter to curb

those violent tempers.

The way I see it, you

have two ears, butonly one mouth. You

really ought to be

doing more listening

than speaking.

Aiden finally obtained the

needed equipment to teach

Kalana how to play some of

his native worlds games.

K proved to be a quick

study. She was able to

beat him soundly each

and every single time they

played. Hed often protest

that he was, letting herwin. After all Ryker, shes

a girl.

But that scowl on his face

and the surprise in his

voice each time he said

these things said hed had

his bubble burst. Hewasnt accustomed to

losing back home from

what Ive been told by

Miss Starr. Though she

added it was good for him

to lose at something from

time to time.

Miss Kalana taught me

how to be goalie on

Saturday so I could try out

for the school team. Shes

amazing! How can an old

lady block so good? Icouldnt get anything past

her.

Beats me kid. Just make

sure you dont ever call K

an old lady to her face

again please. I dont want

to listen to THAT lectureabout my great-great

grandchildren being

heathens again.

Funny thats exactly what

mom said.

Yes, well. Some part of

Aiden must have gotten

used to the idea of losing

to a girl because less than

a month after returning

from Telos, Aiden and

Kalana were a couple.

But dont think there wasnt a

sport that Kalana never gained

any skill in. She was just awful

when it came to golf. Aiden

was good, but would

occasionally have the balldisobey the basic laws of

physics. Combine that with

their natural tempers and well.

They were VERY scary on the

green. I only made the mistake

of playing with them once.

Never again.

Somehow though, Aiden and

Kalana seemed to enjoy

playing together. They made

weekly visits to the local golf

course. Though how they

could enjoy it with one of them

throwing a tantrum every few

holes is beyond me. To eachhis own I guess.

And then FINALLY! as Miss

Starr tells it Aiden proposed.

Kalana accepted and then

plans were made for the

wedding. The engagement

came as a bit of a shock foralmost everyone. No one quite

expected Kalana to ever get

married. Theyd resigned

themselves to choosing an heir

from one of the spare lines.

Needless to say, the impeding

wedding of Kalana and Aiden

was the talk of the land for

months.

The two got married in the

middle of June in a quiet

private ceremony only

surrounded by the closest

family and friends. K was

insistent that only family andfriends who had been invited

were allowed to be witness

to the occasion. Absolutely

no paparazzi!

Did any try to show up?

Well I heard tales that onecameraman showed up, but

it took only one death glare

from Kalana to send him

running for the hills.

Aiden settled into life with

his new family taking on a

job with the local

authorities. He wasnt quite

the workaholic like his

wife. He actually hadhobbies. Sports was his

true passion of course, but

he was willing to try

anything once especially

for his family. So though I

dont think he enjoyed

pulling weeds or

gardening, he could befound outside in the

greenhouse with Tristen on

his days off.

With the heiress finally

married, the new topic on

everyones mind became

babies. Everyone wanted

to know when Kalana and

Aiden would be having achild.

Kalana did her best to

keep her mouth shut in

regards to the talk. You

could clearly see she was

becoming annoyed with

the constant gossip. Soreally it came as no

surprise that one or two

poor souls came to be on

the receiving end of her

wrath. I remember one

poor old lady from the

garden club.

Listen you old hag. Ill have you know that Aiden and I havent even decided

if we want kids. If we decide to have a child and I become pregnant, believe

me when I say that you will be the last person on Loros to know anything

about it.

The real problem was

that Kalana had

decided that she did

want children, and had

recently learned from

the doctors after hersecond miscarriage

that she would likely

never be able to have

children of her own.

Couple this with the

fact that both her

sisters, her brothers

wife, and my daughter

were all expecting

babies and you can

understand why K

might have had a short

fuse.

She tried her best to tell

everyone around her that

she was fine. So I cant

have kids. So what? Ive

never been a big family

kind of girl anyway.But anyone with two eyes

could clearly see that the

news she couldnt have

children was bothering

her. For the first time in

her life, Kalana had failed

at something and she waspowerless to do anything

about it.

Kalana wasnt the only one

affected by the news. Aiden

actually set one of the trees

on fire with his powers after

returning from the doctors

office. Luckily it was raining

and the downpour quickly

doused the flames.

Toren could see that his

daughter and son were

hurting and after some

hesitation finally revealed to

Aiden that he and Kalana

would eventually havechildren.

Aiden was overjoyed with the

news. He seemed completely

unaware that Toren had been

reluctant to give his son the

information. I however, could

tell right away something wasoff.

The haunted look had

come back to his face.

The one Id seen it

take on during the war

with Gal. The one that

had been there whenRhiannon died. It took

some persuasion, but

finally he admitted the

truth. In one of the

dreams, Kalana had

died giving birth to the

children. In another

shed died soon aftertheir birth. And in a

third shed never

recovered from the

trauma dying when the

boys were six.

Toren really didnt

want to tell them, but

he had no choice. He

broke the news to

Kalana and Aiden that

there was a very real

possibility that Kalana

might die if the couple

chose to have children.

He also added that if

the couple chose not

to have children that

there was no way forhim to know what the

consequences would

be.

Kalana and Aiden then

had a very long talk and

in the end they decided to

keep trying. If Kalana died

young, then so be it. She

and Aiden would justhave to make the best of

what time they had left.

They not deny the world

the blessing their children

could provide simply

because Kalana might

die.

choice was easy for

either of them to make. I

think she wondered at

times if shed done the

right thing. I think shehad her doubts. After all,

those children could be a

curse on the world too

couldnt they? Was she

wrong for wanting to

have children? Should

the fact that she might

never know them be

reason enough for her

not to want them?

Kalana spent many hours

with her siblings. She did not

tell her twin sister why she

was spending so much time

with her siblings and their

children. She did confide herfears in Rhiannon, finding for

the first time in her life that

she appreciated her sisters

gift of being so directly

connected to death.

found she was

pregnant with twins.

We decided not to

tell the council as a

whole about Torensdreams. We didnt

want panic to set in

around Loros at the

revelation that

Kalana might die.

We also didnt want

K and the family to

be swamped with

questions we were

unable to answer. In

secret, Toren and I

began to plan for

what we would do

should Kalana in

fact die giving birthto her sons.

All to quickly, one

month turned to

seven and Kalana

went into labor pains.

Aiden, Toren, and

Tristen rushed her tothe hospital. Even

though it was the

middle of the day,

Rhiannon woke me

from my sleep when

shed received the

call. I joined Eli,

Rhiannon and Zeric

in the basement

where we waited for

news on Kalana and

the babies.
