It was a night of glitz and glamour on the 1st December as we recognized the efforts put in by the members of all Lions Clubs of Singapore.

Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Health and Transport, Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim graced the event and was on stage, performing a local favourite for the attendees.

Santa Clause and Santarinas were spotted on the night as well to spread the love in the ‘season of giving’.

After a month of grueling hard work during the 7th Month Festival, LCS Sunshine managed to garner the support of various donors, raising a total of S$120,000 for the home. The cheque presentation to the home took place on 18th November.

The presentation ceremony, held on the PCF Family Day, at The Coliseum, Resorts World Sentosa was graced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. 1st Vice Chairman of the home, Lion Peter Anthony Lim was there to receive the donation of S$20,000.

Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH)

12th October marks the annual International White Cane Day, a day of celebration to honor the visually handicapped and draw attention to their increasing contributions to the society. The White Cane symbolizes mobility, opportunity, strength, independence and potential that lies within the visually-impaired. Our dear neighbours came visiting this year with tones of goodies and activities to share their joy, fun and laughter with our residents.

AIG Asia Pacific Insurance Pte Ltd After months of intense planning and preparation, AIG made their way down to the home and had a great time with our residents. Equipped with new and creative games, they brought lots of joy, smiles and loads of food donation to our residents. Not to mention, their very own guitarist/singer, Sam had a great time jamming and performing as well.

SAMSUNGOn the 26th October, Samsung visited the home, bringing along their Korean staff for a heart-to-heart interaction time with our residents. They wasted no time upon arrival and showered the residents with a 7-course meal along with heaps of presents, goodies and donations-in-kind. Kudos to Miss Shendy Ho for putting up such a wonderful show.

Angelina Tay School of Bellydance

On Deepavali Day, Ms Angelina Tay and her students volunteered their precious time to entertain the Toa Payoh residents with their bellydance performances. To add on the authentic experience of the Middle Eastern culture, they served the residents with delicious array of sharwarma (chicken wraps) after the performance.

Kingdom of Jesus Christ Society

Members of the KJC society visited the home bringing with them gifts, love and friendship to the residents. They came with buckets of goodies. It was a certainly a meaningful cross-culture exchange for the residents as they got to taste some of the homemade Filipino delicacies specially made by their volunteers.

Maven Private Limited

The enthusiastic management and staff from Maven Private Limited continued their regular monthly visit to the Toa Payoh Home on 22nd Nov 2013 and entertained the residents with a “Mini Maven” musical concert. After the concert, the staff served all the residents delicious cakes and pastries for their tea break

It’s back to school thisholiday season!With the ‘season of giving’ just around the corner, students from various institutions flocked in with a spirit of giving and brought fond memories for our oldies by engaging them in yesteryear activities.

Entitled the ‘Golden Pillow Project’, students from Pioneer Junior College raised a total of S$3,710 for the home. This project marked their 2nd year of collaboration with Eu Yang Sang Integrative Health Pte. Ltd. For every donation pledged, students sewed personalized designs on pillow covers for the residents.

Staff and students visited both homes on 24th October and presented the pillows plus cash donations. They came together to put up performances for the residents as well.

Pioneer JC –

Four primary 6 students from Maha Bodhi School took part in the recent ICE Challenge on 10th November 2013, held at United Square Mall. Students of Maha Bodhi School sold origami paper for a S$1 each and managed to make a total of S$150 over the 4-hour mini bazaar.

Their participation in this recent competition was inspired by their friends’ Facebook posts to start an awareness campaign to show more care for the elderly. They hoped that their participation would be able to draw the attention of the younger generation to the home and at the same time, promote inter-generation ties within families.

The students, namely Ho Shina, Wong Zi Xin, Foo Yen Hui, Leong Wai Leng and Calder donated their hard-earned money, along with an artwork to the home and we are deeply grateful for their efforts.
