June 24 – 28, 2013 The Golden Gate Austin Healey Club is pleased to host Rendezvous 2013 at South Lake Tahoe. This is the first of a series of promotional articles about the event.

Schedule of Events MONDAY, June 24th, 2013 9:00 AM—5:00 PM. Registration at the Montbleu Resort 6:00 PM. Welcome reception, but not just any welcome reception. We will have a wonderful evening at the Montbleu Resort with a full dinner available throughout the evening, including carving stations, a pasta station, and an assortment of snacks. In addition, famed hypno-tist Chris Cady will be on hand to really add some daz-zle to the evening. This is an opportunity to relax after your day’s drive, get reacquainted with Healey friends from other Clubs, and enjoy good food, drink, and enter-tainment. Continued on page 2

TUESDAY, June 25th, 2013 The car show will be held right in the center of Heavenly Village. Heavenly Ski Resort is one of the largest ski resorts in the Sierra Mountains and the Village is only one block from your hotel room. The Heavenly Gondola Ride is based right in the heart of the Village, surrounded with shops, restaurants, and Austin Healeys, at least temporarily. Yes, our cars will be placed right on the sidewalks among the shops, restaurants and the gondola. The car show will wind down by mid-afternoon, and then it will be time to head back to the hotel to freshen up for din-ner on the lake. We have chartered the MS Dixie II. The 520-passenger, award-winning MS Dixie II is the largest cruising vessel on Lake Tahoe, and a lo-cal favorite. We will spend three hours on the lake where you will be well fed and entertained by live music—a rockin’ 60’s/70’s band named Yasgur’s Farm (named after the place where Woodstock was held). Bring your boogie shoes and dance to tunes made famous by The Eagles, Crosby Stills & Nash, The Mommas and the Papas, and more. This is Tie Dye Night, so wear your most outrageous tie-dye colors. This will be a night for the memory books. Wednesday, June 26, 2013 The morning will be packed with many events, some car related and some not. We will have a few tech sessions, but with a new twist. Steve Day (British Car Ranch) will conduct a women’s tech session and a new twisted tech session. And, of course, our Club member David Nock (British Car Specialists) will also share tips, tricks, and drips. Cars will only be part of this phase of our event. Some women will be at the women’s tech session, some will be at the photog-raphy seminar and some will be at our special wom-en-only seminars, but they will all show up to take on the men in the Healey Remote Control Car Races. We will have a track set up for remote-controlled cars, and anyone will be able to sign up and race cars. The cars will have Austin Healey bodies. Final-ly, we will have the race of the year--the top woman winner will race the top winning guy. And, they will be racing for a cash prize. Think Laguna Seca! Continued on page 3

Wednesday, June 26, 2013 (continued) There will also be a very cool Funkhana. A Funkhana is an automo-tive activity that combines driving dexterity, navigational skill, mental and physical coordination, teamwork, luck, and above all, a sense of humor. Given the expected seriousness of some competitors and the silliness of others, it can be hilarious for spectators. Each car, with driver and passenger, takes about five to ten minutes to complete the course. Both the driver and navigator are kept busy doing tasks and playing carnival games while negotiating a tricky course. As the driver maneuvers the passenger might be throwing, reaching, squirting, holding or performing some other physical activity such as extinguish-ing a series of candles with a squirt gun or throwing car parts into a bucket. Activities might take place outside of the car and sometimes the driver is blindfolded. Following lunch there will be two driving tours on some of the best roads in the Sierras around Lake Tahoe. Both tours will return in time for dinner. This is your free night to mingle with friends and choose among over 50 restaurants to enjoy a sunset dinner.

Our seminar schedule will continue through mid-morning, and we will wrap up the remote-control car races with the battle of the sexes. Then we are off to the real driving roads where Healeys thrive. But, we will be back early enough to get ready for our final night—the normally long and boring Awards Banquet. Well, guess again. No boring night here--just plenty of fun. Rendezvous 2013 Arts/Crafts & Photography Contest Healey admiration takes many forms and Art/Crafts & Photography has traditionally been one of most popular events at Rendezvous. This will be a popular choice competition with awards for each cate-gory announced at the closing Awards Banquet. So get your creative juices flowing and bring your Healey-related arts, crafts and photos with you to Rendezvous 2013 at Lake Tahoe, June 24th - 28th!

Registration We are introducing something new this year to Rendezvous 2013. In an effort to keep our pricing as low as possible we offer package pricing, and we ask everyone to stay at the Montbleu Resort. This allows us to guarantee higher attendance numbers and negotiate better rates for the event. Alt-hough Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful resort areas in the country, it is also priced accord-ingly. By purchasing the package price, you will save $100 versus buying everything a la carte. Neither the package deal nor the a la carte option includes the cost of the hotel, which you must book separately. If you attend Rendezvous 2013 you should stay at the Montbleu Resort. There will only be exceptions for those who need to camp or for those few members who live locally. This al-lows us to fill more hotel rooms and, in return, to obtain the excellent room rate of $119 per night. In addition, the Montbleu will extend that price for two days preceding and following the event for those who want to arrive earlier or stay later. After registering for Rendezvous 2013 you will be given a code that will allow you to book your room at the Montbleu at the special rate. It is important that you register early because the hotel will sell out during the peak season.
