President’s Report By Ray Lamoureux
Spring is almost here as of this newsletter. It is only a couple of weeks away and it is
time to start thinking about heading north for the summer. The winter was one of the
mildest we have seen in years. Are we not lucky that we had no freezing temperatures
and snow to deal with over the winter?
The park is looking great with a lot of units having work done over the winter.
Everyone works very hard to keep this park looking great, the board thanks you for all
your hard work.
We have no places for sale as of this writing. The ones we had for sale went so fast
that the office did not know till after there was a buyer. All money in the sales is sent
to the lawyer to be settled at closing. The good faith deposit should be sent also to the lawyer. It should be held
by the seller. The buyer should make out the check to the lawyer and all money will be held in escrow.
The oak trees will be trimmed in the near future. We are also planning on purchasing five more palm trees for
the park. We are looking at units that have no palm trees on either side of the unit first to plant these trees.
The front of the office we are having trouble to keep plants growing. They don’t last because of the soil in that
area. The beatification committee has come up with another idea for the area and will have it redone in the near
future.
The board has purchased new cooking pots for the kitchen and replaced the window in the front of the kitchen.
We had problems with the drains in the clubhouse and hope they are fixed after the last flood.
The rear fence and gate are in full operation from the last accident we had with the car. It took a long time to get
everything right again but it is working ok now.
The office is on the last phase of updating and getting the new phone books completed. Karin has been working
hard to get the numbers correct for the new book. If you did not get your new number in it is too late by this
writing.
The board hopes that everyone travelling back north has a safe trip and we will see you come fall.

Happy Easter!
Well spring is finally here, although at Golden Acres we had a very mild winter
and a very busy one as well. There were so many exciting events that occurred
these winter months that we will need a break just to rest up before next season is
upon us.
Many thanks to all of you that provided articles and pictures for this month's
newsletter. Please keep the articles and pictures flowing every month in 2017.
This month you will read articles about Progressive Cards, the O'Malley Family,
Valentine's Dance, A Hole in One, The 50th Anniversary Celebration, Pool "Pops", GA Paddlers' Adventures,
Can / Am, Recreation Report, a couple heartfelt thank you notes, and some GA Trivia.
As April approaches, here are some notable events to remember:
April 1st: April Fool's Day.
April 16th: Easter Sunday.
April 17th: Easter Monday in Canada.
April 18th: Income Tax filing ends in the US.
April 22nd: Earth Day.
April 28th: Arbor Day.
Many snowbirds will be heading back to their summer homes this month with memories of happy times
encountered with their winter friends at Golden Acres. If you are traveling this month, I wish you a safe journey
arriving to your destination.
Until next time,
May God bless and keep you well and safe…

Beautiful Unity Quotes By Author Audre Lorde
"It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences. In
our work and in our living, we must recognize that difference is a reason for celebration and growth, rather than
a reason for destruction".

The O'Malley Family By Ann Stewart
Mr. and Mrs. O'Malley were a married couple. Then one day he left her.
She decided to come to Golden Acres to look for him because she knew that
there were many single women living here. Eventually she found him and
they reunited. Now there is a baby! It appears that each March there is one
more O'Malley to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

Valentine's Dance By Wayne & Moya Bettridge (Hosts)
There were one hundred and eleven Romeo & Juliette's who danced and celebrated Valentine's together. We all
enjoyed the entertainment, Chris and Sue, who call themselves "Tangent" This was the first time they played in
our hall and were recommended by residents of Golden Acres who had heard them entertain at Nauti Nancy's.
Many thanks to all who helped with setting up and decorating the hall. Special thanks to Jim & Mary Stewart,
Gil & Gail Callingham, & Cheryl Taylor for all their help and support.
Thanks also to Ann Stewart for donating one of the spot dance prizes.
We always look forward to getting together with our friends and neighbors here at Golden Acres.

Hole in One By Cheryl Taylor
On Feb 21, Carol Healey made her second hole in one at
Countryway Golf Course. Witnessing her amazing shot
on the 18th hole were Lynn Mickle, Cheryl Taylor and
Rose West. The cheering and laughter could be heard
for miles! The celebration continued in the clubhouse.
Congratulations, Carol!

POOL POPS(icles) By Nancy Baker
We've renamed the Aquafit Class since the heater for the pool was broken down. Swimming in 75 degree water
is definitely a challenge. That cool water transformed us into popsicles so we are now called the Pool Pops
(short for popsicles). Nevertheless, everyone kept warm enough by working hard and staying in motion -- until
the stretches at the end of class when we were too still. That's the first time they preferred getting out of the
water rather than into the water! Here's a picture of our "Pool Pops" - thankfully in the sunshine enjoying our
popsicles!!

Interesting Golden Acres' Trivia By Sue Bailey
Many residents would like to know where everyone is located when they aren't at Golden Acres. Unfortunately,
if you are a full-time resident, you are a Floridian since we don't have any information on where you came from.
Also the count is by unit number, not per individual occupant for a total of 224 units. As of the writing of this
newsletter here it is (since it changes so rapidly).

50th Anniversary Celebration March 5, 2017 By Barb Cox & Theresa Quinn Pics by Bob Mickle
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Golden Acres, family, friends and visitors gathered to join in the festivities
for seven couples that will be celebrating their 50th
wedding anniversary in 2017 - David & Kathy Merriam, ,
Dennis & Jackie Cunningham, John & Barbara Kanney, John & Phyllis Cullen, Ed & Jean Morin, Frank &
Linda St. Peter, and Rennie & Mary Wittenbols.
Everyone enjoyed the life histories of the celebrants as narrated by Mary Heffernan and all the couples danced
to “May I Have This Dance for the Rest of My Life” sung by Carol Spinney who was accompanied on the piano
by Belinda Sezbenski. Once again, Rita Syroteuk handmade all the place cards for this event. Everyone
enjoyed the cupcakes (baked and decorated by Theresa Quinn).

Many thanks go out to all the volunteers that helped with this event – without them none of this would have
materialized.
Thank You
A great big Thank You to Bev and Gary Collins for helping distribute the monthly newsletter. A great job.
Thank you again.
Also Thank you to our mystery paper delivery person. Our daily newspaper is put on our door handles
everyday day. Thank you.

The GA Paddle Club By Gil & Gail Callingham
The G.A. Paddle Club has been very active taking cruises to:
Craig's Park in Spring Bayou in Tarpon Springs (Twice).
Walsingham Park in Largo.
Pop Stansell Park in Palm Harbor (twice) Once for a cruise to see it, and a second time from the park
to an island for a picnic lunch on the beach.
Weedon Preserve in St. Petersburg.
To Caladesi Island from the Causeway.
John Sargent's Park on the Hillsborough River.
We have plans to cruise, " WEATHER PERMITTING", from:
Crystal Beach late afternoon to Sunset Beach, have supper and watch a sunset.
Down the Pithachuscotte River and other destinations.
Look on the bulletin board in the club house for dates, destinations, and times.
We are a club organized to enjoy cruises on the beautiful waterways of Florida in and around
our area. The club is open to all GAers and guests. You do not have to have any experience in paddling, just a
desire to learn.
Need to rent? We have had success in obtaining very good rental fees and services in
the local areas. So just come out and join us in the fun.
The Admiral and the Rear Admiral.

Can / Am 2017 By Don Webb
Our annual Can / Am dinner and entertainment night was held on February 23, 2017 at our clubhouse. As usual,
we had a sold out event.
Don Webb was Master of Ceremonies and he warmly welcomed the attendees and gave a message of thanks to
our American friends for having us stay in their country and to be a part of this great community of Golden
Acres.
The highlight of the evening was a telephone call from Lynn Perron wishing all the best for the evening. Thank
you Lynn for your call. Over the past ten years, Lynn was in charge of the entertainment and unfortunately
could not be here this year as her husband is not well. We pray for a speedy recovery so they can join us next
year!
Thank you was expressed to our main organizer, Theresa Quinn, for ticket sales, the selection of chicken and
preparation as well as ensuring that items were not forgotten.
Thanks go out to Frank St. Peter and Dick Donnelly for helping out in the kitchen.
The decorating committee and table setup was completed by Gary & Bev Collins, Frank & Linda St. Peter, Ray
& Donna Outhouse, Mike & Barb Cox, Paul Cox (Mike's brother), and Mary Lou Webb.
Bob Mickle was Master of Ceremonies for the entertainment. Bob did a superior job in selecting scenes from
past shows and compiling various skits for our show this year. The review of past years was really well
received. Thank you, Bob, what a great job!
Thank You for your Prayers By Roz Frabotta
Thank you for all of your prayers and support for my sister, Vinny,
prior to, during, and after her February open heart surgery. It was quite
a lengthily (nine hours in the OR!) and involved procedure but a very
successful one!
At this writing (one month after surgery) she is at home recouping
slowly but steadily and I continue to remain with her in my Florence
Nightingale role. We are anticipating the arrival of spring, especially in
the weather department, so we can get outside for some sunshine
therapy!!!
Miss all of you and look forward to seeing everyone again next season!

Recreation Report By Ron Short
Our busy winter vacation months are rapidly coming to a closed season with many snowbirds preparing for the
trip north.
Last November brought us the American Pot Luck Dinner and the Early Bird Dance.
December brought us our December Pot Luck Dinner, Christmas Pot Luck Dinner and our New Years Eve
Dance.
January commenced with Line Dancing, Ball Room Dancing, Aqua Fit, Bingo, Indoor Exercises, and the
Welcome Back Snow Bird Dance. Along with our first morning Pancake/bacon breakfast, Progressive Cards,
Soup Pot Luck dinner and a Sock Hop Dance.
February brought us the Super Bowl, Valentine's Dance, another Breakfast and Can-Am.
March brought us another Pot Luck Dinner, 50th Anniversary Celebration, our Penny/Craft/Bake Sale, the St-
Patrick's Dance, another Pancake/bacon breakfast, the Volunteer Appreciation Afternoon, and the Spring Fling
Dance.
And of course the Easter Pot Luck Dinner is on April 16, 2017.
Next year we will be combining the Welcome Back Snow Bird Dance with the Sock Hop Dance. We are trying
to have one dance per month with the exception of March . (St. Patrick's Dance and the Spring Fling Dance).
Your Recreation Committee has had a very busy year and we are already looking forward to next year. Some
changes have occurred with the committee and we are very saddened to see Wayne Bettridge, Theresa Quinn,
and Barb Cox step down. These three have done an insurmountable amount of work for you residents and we
thank them from the bottom of our hearts for everything that they have done over the years.
Stepping up to the plate for a two year term are Sue Toner, Barb Pylinski, and Maureen Shannon. We welcome
these three with open arms and are looking forward to working with them.
Please remember ladies and gentlemen, recreational functions can only survive with volunteers and we
welcome every resident in our beautiful park to please offer to help out. Your recreation committee thanks
every volunteer who has helped out this year in one way or another and asks that you please continue.
In closing, Nancy and I would like to wish you all a safe and healthy summer and looking forward to seeing you
all back here in the fall or early winter.

Greetings from the Office By Karin Desmone
Please welcome new residents Leigh & Anita Herington Unit #83 and Tod & Heather Blanchard, Unit #117.
May their new address give them lots of happiness, peace and enjoyment.
Many will be returning to their summer addresses this month and next. Please don’t forget to sign out either in
the library or the office. I do use these sign out sheets to communicate with PMI so mailings get to the address
that you are currently residing in.
Also, if you are allowing someone to park their car in your driveway while you are away. The office will need
a note with your name and unit number, and the person’s name and unit number that you are allowing to park
there.
“HAPPY SPRING AND SUMMER” to all. May the spring and summer warm your heart and home with lots of
happiness and all the joy of life!! See you in the Fall.
