Proper identification is required for all discount fare categories. When boarding the bus, you must show the driver the correct type of identification to qualify for the discounted Youth, Senior, Medicare and Disabled fares. The acceptable forms of ID are listed above.

The Go Ventura Smartcard is great for transit riders who use multiple bus systems in Ventura County. You can purchase a single monthly pass or you can put money into an electronic-purse account. Be courteous to other passengers. Please • refrain from loud or unruly behavior.

Make sure you are not blocking the free • movement of another person.

Skateboards, rollerblades and skates must be • carried with you on the bus. You will not be allowed to board the bus if you are wearing rollerblades or skates.

Shopping carts or strollers must be folded and • stowed safely away from the aisles.

Guide dogs and other service animals trained • to assist passengers with disabilities are welcome.

Small pets are allowed on the bus only if • they are in a secured cage.

Please do not talk to the driver while the bus • is moving.

Do not smoke, eat, drink or spit while on the • bus.

Use earphones when playing radios, iPods/• MP3 players or other sound equipment while on the bus.

It is against the law to carry any explosives, • acid, flammable liquid, and/or toxic or hazardous materials.

It is against the law to fail to pay the correct • fare or to misuse transfers, passes or tickets. GCT may prosecute offenders under California Penal Code 640, which provides for a fine of up to $250.

THE HEADING TELLS THE ROUTE NAME, NUMBER, DIRECTION OF TRAVEL AND THE DAY OF OPERATION.


How To ride THe bUsBus stops are identified with a green sign. Listed on the sign are the routes serving the stop. For the safety of our passengers, GCT buses only stop at designated bus stops.

Arrive at your bus stop at least 5 minutes early. Stand near the sign, bench or bus shelter so that the driver can see you. The driver may not know to stop if you are not clearly visible.

The route number and destination of each bus is displayed on a “headsign” above the windshield. Before boarding the bus, make sure it is the bus you wish to take. If you are unsure, ask the bus operator to assist you.

Please have your cash fare, pass or transfer ready before the bus arrives. If paying with cash, please have exact fare - drivers DO NOT make change.

Also, passengers using a discount fare are required to present acceptable proof of eligibility upon boarding. Make sure to have proper identification ready if necessary:

youth: proof of age (through 18) or high • school identification.

seniors: proof of age (65+)•

disabled: Medicare card, gcT disability id • card or AdA card

If your trip requires the use of more than one bus to reach your destination, ask the driver for a free limited-time transfer slip when you pay your fare. Transfers are not valid for a round trip. If you are using a monthly pass or day pass you will not need a transfer slip.

After paying your fare, please move promptly to a vacant seat. Please note

that seniors and people with disabilities have priority for the seats directly behind the driver. If seats are not available, move towards the rear of the bus and hold on to the grab rails.

About one block before your stop, pull the stop request cord or push the touch strip to signal the driver that you want to get off at the next stop. Please be sure the driver has enough time to stop safely.

Please exit from the rear door. Push the touch bar on the doors gently to open them. Hold the door handle as you exit the bus. Some buses have a yellow touch strip located on the back door – on these buses, touch the yellow strip to activate the doors. After you exit, stand to the side of the road or on the sidewalk until the bus has pulled away. For your safety, do not cross in front of the bus and obey all traffic signals.

bikes on bUses

Getting around is easier than ever for bicycle riders thanks to Gold Coast Transit’s Bikes on Buses program. Bicycle racks are mounted on the front of each GCT fixed route bus and customers may load a bicycle at any bus stop. The process is quick and easy, usually taking 20 seconds or less. Riders will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis with a limit of one bike per person. There is no charge for your bicycle.

loadinG yoUr bikeCaution should be taken when loading and unloading your bicycle. Bus operators cannot assist with the loading or unloading of bikes, therefore it is important that you read these instructions carefully. Before loading your bicycle, remove water bottles, pumps, accessories or any loose objects that might fall off. When the bus arrives at your stop, let the bus operator know you will be loading your bicycle.

Each rack holds two bicycles with wheels 16” or larger in diameter. If the rack is not in the open position, simply pull the handle to release the rack. Lift your bike onto the rack, fitting the wheels into the slots. The front wheel slots are labeled. Raise and release the support arm over the top of the bike’s front tire. Make sure the arm is resting on the tire and not the fender or frame. For safety, be sure to stand only on the curb side of the bus when you load your bicycle.

UnloadinG yoUr bikeTell the bus operator that you will be unloading your bicycle before you exit the bus. Then just raise the support arm off the tire, move the arm down, lift your bike out of the rack and you’re all done. If there is no other bicycle left on the rack, please fold it up.

After removing your bike from the rack, return to the curb with your bicycle and wait for the bus to leave before entering traffic or crossing the street.

keePinG yoUr bike seCUreBicycles are secured by tires, not the frame, and loaded bikes do not touch each other while in the rack. Bicycle locks may not be used on bikes in the rack and it is the customer’s responsibility to observe his/her bicycle during the trip. Bus operators do not monitor bicycles and who unloads them. GCT is not responsible for loss of accessories or damage done to or by bicycles in the process of using the racks or while loading or unloading the bicycle.

MarkinG & TeTHerinG ProGraM

To assist passengers using wheelchairs and related mobility devices to ride safely on our buses, GCT has developed a voluntary marking and tethering program. Pre-marking will help bus operators (or your personal care attendant) to quickly identify the best locations to attach securement hooks and/or belts. Wheelchairs and mobility devices without markings or straps will be secured to the best of the ability of GCT bus operators. When riding on a GCT bus, the bus operator will:

• Assistyoutoliftthefoldingseatandlocatethesecurement equipment.

• Usehooksand/ortetherstosecuretheframeofyour mobility device to the bus.

• Instructyoutosetthemobilitydevicebrakesandturn off power (if powered).

• Offeryoutheuseofanoptional,adjustablelap/shoulder belt for your safety.

• Release the securement equipment from themobility device and assist you in exiting.

GCT offers mobility device users the opportunity to experience one-on-one sessions with GCT staff to include marking and/or installing tether straps on mobility devices, practicing boarding and de-boarding a bus and demonstrating securement procedures. These sessions will take place at GCT’s administrative offices or the Ventura or Oxnard Transportation Centers. MobiliTy deViCe seCUreMenT PoliCy

GCT requires that mobility device users ride with their devices secured to the floor of the bus during transportation. Passengers who do not comply with this policy may be denied transportation, according to federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations.The policy applies to all mobility devices GCT is able to secure. It does not apply to devices that cannot be secured. If securement equipment does not fit or is broken, the mobility aid user will be allowed to ride.

GCT bus operators must verify that all mobility devices are secured while the bus is in motion, except as stated earlier. The driver must secure the mobility device or must ensure it has been properly secured by the passenger or personal care attendant. GCT recommends, but does not require, that mobility device users utilize lap and/or shoulder belts available on all buses. The driver will assist with lap and shoulder belt securement if desired.

All buses accommodate scooters, wheelchairs, and similar mobility devices up to 30 inches wide and 48 inches long. The mobility device and user together must not exceed 600 pounds in wieght. Mobility devices exceeding these limits may be denied access if they create any safety, maneuverability or mechanical problems. Wheelchairs may not be transported in GCT buses with seats in a fully reclined position.

Passengers using three-wheeled scooters are strongly encouraged, but not required, to transfer to a regular bus seat whenever possible, as recommended by most scooter manufacturers. The scooter will be secured in the wheelchair area.

serViCes for senior CiTizens andPassenGers wiTH disabiliTies

bUs serViCeGCT buses are equipped to accommodate wheelchairs and three-wheel scooters that comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. GCT buses are low-floor models with fold-out ramps for wheelchair access. If you need to use the ramp to board the bus, the driver will assist you. All GCT buses are capable of kneeling for easier boarding at the front door.

ParaTransiT serViCeOrigin-to-destination transit is available for people with disabilities and senior citizens (age 65 and older) who cannot use the fixed route bus service. With proper identification, passengers with disabilities and senior citizens may ride all GCT buses at a reduced fare. To qualify, passengers must show the driver a GCT disability identification card or a Medicare Card each time they board the bus. To obtain a GCT disability identification card with a photo, passengers must get a certification form completed by one of the following: a physician, a licensed medical professional, a licensed optometrist (for visual impairments), or a counselor/social worker (representing a recognized organization for persons with disabilities). serViCe aniMalsQualified service animals such as guide dogs are permitted to ride the bus. Service animals must be on a harness or leash at all times. They may sit on the floor out of the aisle or be held in the passenger’s lap, but may not block the aisle or occupy a separate passenger seat.

How To file a CoMPlainTAny person who believes that he or she has, individually, or as a member of any specific class of persons, been subjected to discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin may file a Title VI complaint with GCT. The complaint should be submitted by the complainant and/or his/her designee as soon as possible but must be filed within 180 days of the date of the alleged discrimination. The “Title VI Complaint Form” is available online at www.goldcoasttransit.org and may be used to detail the complaint, but is not mandatory. Complaint forms may also be obtained by calling 805-487-4222. GCT will provide appropriate assistance to complainants who are limited in their ability to communicate in English.

In addition to the Title VI complaint process at GCT, a complainant may file a Title VI complaint with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Office of Civil Rights, Region IX, 201 Mission Street, Suite 1650, San Francisco, California 94105-1839. The FTA’s complaint procedure is contained in the FTA Circular C4702.1A.

How CoMPlainTs are ProCessedAll complaints alleging discrimination based on race, color or national origin in a transit service or benefit provided by GCT will be investigated promptly. GCT will acknowledge in writing receipt of the complaint within ten (10) working days. Based upon the receipt of all information required, the investigation will normally be completed within 90 days of receipt. In some cases GCT may submit a written request to the complainant to provide additional information. Receipt of additional relevant information may expand the timing of the complaint resolution.

GCT’s General Manager will determine if the complaint may be administratively closed or if a final written response is needed. If a final written response is needed, GCT will send the response to the complainant. The written response will notify the complainant that there were violations and efforts are underway to correct them or that the file will be closed because the investigation did not uncover any violations.

The complainant also will be advised of his/her right to appeal the response to federal and state authorities as appropriate. The individual’s right to a prompt and equitable resolution of a complaint will not be impaired by his/her pursuit of other remedies. The use of this grievance process is not a prerequisite to the pursuit of other remedies.

wHaT is aCCess?ACCESS is an origin-to-destination public transit service for persons with disabilities and senior citizens (age 65 and older) unable to use fixed route bus service. ACCESS serves the cities of Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Ventura and the unincorporated areas of Ventura County between these cities.• Trips are provided to anywhere

within the service area

• Riders reserve trips one day in advance

• Riders are picked up at their point of origin, usually at the curb

• Riders are dropped off at their destination, usually at the curb

• Same-day trip trips may be provided based on schedule availability

• All vehicles are equipped with wheelchair lifts

• Personal care attendants (PCAs) may ride along to provide assistance to the passenger

• Passengers who do not have PCAs and require assistance beyond the curb should request additional assistance when reserving their trips

Visual impairment such that, after best correction, vision in the better eye is 20/200, or less; or the visual field is contracted 1. to 10 degrees or less from a point of fixation or subtends to an angle no greater than 20 degrees.

Hearing impairment such that there is a 50% bilateral hearing loss uncorrected by use of a hearing aid.2.

Musculoskeletal impairment such as muscular dystrophy, osteogenesis imperfecta, or severe rheumatism or arthritis of 3. Therapeutic Grade III or worse, Functional Class III or worse, or Anatomical Grade III or worse.

Cardiovascular impairment resulting in marked limitation of physical activity. Less than ordinary physical activity causes 4. fatigue, palpitation, dyspnea or anginal pain. Ordinary physical activity should be markedly restricted.

Respiratory impairment in which shortness of breath does not appear during times of rest but does occur during ordinary 5. daily activities such as stair climbing or walking more than 200 feet. At the time of upper respiratory illness, it may become severe enough to require hospitalization.

Amputation, anatomical deformity (due to vascular or neurological deficits), traumatic loss of muscle mass or tendons, or 6. x-ray evidence of bony or fibrous ankylosis joint subluxation, or instability of: (a) both hands, (b) one hand and one foot, or (c) amputation of one lower extremity at or above the tarsal region.

Paralysis, incoordination, or functional motor deficit in any two limbs due to brain, spinal, or peripheral nerve injury, includ-7. ing paraplegia, quadriplegia, and hemiplegia.

A developmental disability that is manifested before the person reaches 22 years of age, which constitutes a substantial 8. disability to the affected individual, and is attributable to mental retardation or related conditions which include cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism or other neurological conditions.

Emotional disorder due to the presence of mental illness, to the extent that applicant has significant impairment and/or 9. symptoms which hinder their daily living, including schizophrenia, clinical depression, bi-polar and anxiety disorders.

Impedimento visual que la visión del mejor ojo es 20/200 o menos después de la mejor corrección; o el campo de visión es 1. limitado a 10 grado o menos de un punto fijo o subtiende un ángulo que no es más de 20 grado.

Impedimento auditidivo pérdida bilateral de un 50% del oído que no ha sido corregida por un aparato audífono.2.

Impedimento muscular o esqueletal como distrofía muscular, osteogenesis imperfecta, reumatismo severo o artritis de Grado 3. Terapéutico III o peor, Clase Funcióna III o peor, o Grado Anatómico III o peor.

Impedimento cardiovascular que resulta en marcada limitación de actividades físicas. Actividad física que es menos que la 4. ordinaria, causa fatiga, palpitaciones, disnea o dolor anginal. Actividad física ordinaria debería ser restringida notablemente.

CóMo Viajar en el aUTobúsLas paradas se identifican con una señal verde. Se indicaran las rutas que sirven la parada en la señal. Para la seguridad de nuestros pasajeros, los autobúses de GCT recojen sólo en las paradas designadas.

Llegue por lo menos 5 minutos temprano a su parada. Esté parado junto a la señal, banca o resguardo del autobús para que el chófer pueda verlo. El chófer no va a saber si lo tiene que recojer si no es claramente visible.

El número de ruta de autobús y el destino se manifiesta en un “headsign” sobre el parabrisas. Antes de abordar el autobús, asegúrese que sea el autobús que desea tomar. Si esta inseguro, pidale ayuda al chófer del autobús.

Tenga su pasaje, pase o transferenciá lista al abordar. A todos los pasajeros se les exige presentar prueba aceptable de elegibilidad para pagar tarifa de descuento, por favor tenga su identificación lista.

Si esta inseguro dónde bajar del autobús, pidale al chófer del autobús que mencione la parada que desea cuando el autobús se vaya acercando. Si su viaje requiere el uso de más de un autobús para llegar a su destino, le pide una transferencia gratis al chófer cuando page su tarifa. Las transferencias no son válidas de ida y vuelta.

Pasajeros que usan un pase mensual o el pase del día no necesitan un transferencia.

Al abordar el autobús y pagar su tarifa, sientese en un asiento. Observe que las personas mayores y personas con incapacidades tengan la prioridad por los asientos directamente detrás del chófer. Si no hay ningún asiento disponible,

proceda al fondo del autobús y por favor agarese del barandal de fiero.

Una cuadra antes de su parada, estire el cordón para bajar o empuje la tira para señalar al chófer que quiere bajar a la próxima parada. Esté seguro que el chófer tiene bastante tiempo para poder parar con seguridad. Por favor trate de salir por la puerta de atras, esto hara que el servicio sea mas rapido. Empuje la barra suavemente y las puertas abrirán. Sostenga la puerta cuando salga del autobús. Algunos autobúses tienen una tira amarilla localizada en la puerta trasera. En estos autobúses toque la cinta amarilla. Después de que salga, esté de pie al lado del camino hasta que el autobús proceda a su destino. Para su seguridad, no cruce delante del autobús.

biCiCleTas en aUTobúses

Moverse es más fácil que nunca para los bastidores de la bicicleta gracias al programa de Bicicletas en el Autobús de Gold Coast Transit. Bastidores de bicicletas están montadas en la parte frontal de cada autobús de ruta fija GCT y los clientes pueden cargar una bicicleta en cualquier parada de autobús. El proceso es rápido y fácil, por lo general toma 20 segundos o menos. Pasajeros serán alojados basado en quien llege primero, con un límite de una bicicleta por persona. No hay ningún cargo para su bicicleta.

Después de sacar su bicicleta de el portabicicletas, quedese en la banqueta con su bicicleta y espere a el autobús para salir antes de entrar a el tráfico o cruzar la calle.

ManTener sU biCiCleTa seGUra Las bicicletas son aseguradas por llantas, no el marco, y bicicletas de carga no se toquan mientras que esten en el portabicicletas. Cerraduras de bicicletas no podrán ser utilizadas en su bicicleta y es responsabilidad del cliente para observar su bicicleta durante el viaje. Los operadores de autobúses no puede controlar las bicicletas y ver quien las descarga. GCT no es responsable por la pérdida de accesorios o de daños causados o por las bicicletas en el proceso de utilización de los bastidores o durante la carga o descarga de la bicicleta.

ProGraMa Para MarCar y aTar sillas de rUeda y aParaTos de MoVilidad

GCT ha desarrollado un programa para marcar y atar, que ayudara a las personas que usan los autobúses de GCT poder viajar con seguridad en su silla de ruedas o aparato de movilidad. Pre-marcar es voluntario y proporcionado por GCT gratuitamente, si es necesario tambien pueden ponerle los tirantes al pasajero.

Marcando las silla de rueda y los aparatos de movilidad implican el aplicar de la cinta coloreada de vinilo en las áreas donde los ganchos o ataduras pueden ser conectadas lo mejor posible. Las correas seran instaladas cuando no hay lugar adecuado en el area de la silla de rueda para la conexión del equipo de seguridad del autobús.

Pre-marcar ayudará a operadores del autobús (o a su asistente personal del cuidado) a identificar rápidamente la localización para unir los ganchos de seguridad y/o su aparato de movilidad de cintos.

Examine su aparato de movilidad y determine los • mejores 4 puntos para ser asegurado.

Ponga la cinta coloreada en los mejores puntos • de seguridad en su aparato de movilidad.

Instalar correas (si es necesario) a su aparato de • movilidad si está necesitado.

Póliza Para la seGUridad de aParaTos de MoVilidad

GCT requiere que los usuarios de aparatos de • movilidad viajen con sus aparatos asegurados mientras que viajen en el autobús de GCT. Todos los aparatos de movilidad se deben asegurar al piso de los autobúses de GCT durante el transporte. Los pasajeros que no se conforman con esta póliza pueden ser negados el transporte, según regulaciones federales del ADA.

La póliza aplica a todos los aparatos de movilidad • que GCT puede asegurar. No se aplica a esos aparatos que no puedan ser asegurados. Si el equipo del lazo abajo no cabe o se rompió, se les permitirá viajar.

Los chóferes del autobús de GCT deben • verificar que todos los aparatos de movilidad estén asegurados mientras que el autobús este en movimiento, excepto como se declaró anteriormente. El conductor debe asegurar el aparato de movilidad, o debe asegurarse que este seguro si es realizado por el pasajero o el asistente personal de cuidado.

Todos los autobúses de GCT acomodan las sillas • de rueda, patineta, y los aparatos similares de

la movilidad hasta 30 pulgadas de ancho y 48 pulgadas de largo, pesando 600 libras o menos cuando están ocupados. Los aparatos de movilidad que exceden estos límites pueden ser negados acceso si crean cualquier problema de seguridad, maniobrabilidad o problemas mecánicos. Las sillas de ruedas no se pueden transportar con los asientos en una posición reclinada.

Para su seguridad, le aconsejamos, pero no se • requiere a los pasajeros que usen patinetas de tres ruedas, transferirse a un asiento regular del autobús siempre que sea posible, según lo recomendado por la mayoría de los fabricantes de la patineta. La patineta entonces estará asegurado en un área de silla de ruedas.

PraCTiqUe sUbiendo al aUTobús GCT ofrece a usuarios de aparatos de movilidad una oportunidad única de experimentar uno-a-uno sesiones con un miembro accesible del personal de los servicios de GCT. serViCio del aUTobúsLos autobúses de GCT estan equipados para acomodar sillas de ruedas y patineta de tres ruedas que obedecen el ADA. los autobúses de GCT son nuevos modelos con piso mas bajo, y rampas para acceso de sillas de rueda. Si necesita usar la rampa para abordar el autobús, el chófer lo ayudará. Los autobúses de GCT se pueden arrodillar para que mas fácil pueda usted abordar por la puerta de enfrente del autobús.

serViCio de ParaTransiToUn servicio al público de paratránsito de banqueta-a-banqueta está disponible para las personas con incapacidades y para los mayores de 65 años que no pueden usar el servicio del autobús regular. Tarifa redUCida y TarjeTas deseGUro MédiCo del esTado

Con identificación apropiada, los pasajeros con incapacidades y los mayores de 65 años pueden abordar los autobúses de Gold Coast Transit a una tarifa reducida. Para calificar, los pasajeros deben mostrarle una identificación de incapacitado de GCT o una tarjeta de Medicare al chófer cada vez que aborde el autobús. Para obtener una identificación de incapacitado de GCT, los pasajeros deben de completar una forma de certificación por uno de las siguientes personas, un profesional médico autorizado, optometrista autorizado (para inpedimentos visuales) o un consejero / asistente social (representando una organización reconocida para las personas con incapacidades).
