As the member for the seat of Coomera, I would like to commend the committee and marine industry representatives on the success of the second Expo in 2012.
I am proud to be a part of Australia’s only “Working Boat Show” bringing enthusiasts and exhibitors together, within facilities that boast Australia’s largest boat manufacturing plants and shipyards.
I wholeheartedly endorse this year’s event and I’m sure, the 2013 Gold Coast International Marine Expo will provide visitors with a very memorable insight into the boating industry.

elcome to Australia’s Working Boat Show. The Gold Coast International Marine Expo is a unique, not-for-profit, action packed, family
friendly event offering a behind the scenes view of the diverse marine industry.
For the first time in Expo’s three year meteoric history there will be a range of seminars and demonstrations from wooden boat construction through to fibreglass construction of a new Riviera, as well as the immensely popular 50 Tonne Travel Lift Demonstration, and Quintrex Factory Tours demonstrating aluminium tinnie construction.
Expo is so much more than a boat show, as it brings together such diversity from kayaks to superyachts, fishing equipment to jet skis and everything else in between will be on show over a 3km display circuit, and with live attractions and demonstrations taking place every 15 minutes,
this year’s Expo will definitely be an interactive and memorable event for everyone.
The Gold Coast International Marine Expo has been described as ‘breathing life back into the marine industry’, which was impacted by the GFC in 2010. It has now become one of the major boating attractions on the Australian boat show calendar and has this year recorded a 25 per cent growth from last year, a good indication that it will double in size over the next five years as predicted.
The Expo is a partnership between Gold Coast City Marina and Shipyard, Riviera, Quintrex, International Paints, and Clipper Motor Yachts who have founded and helped stage this annual community event.
On behalf of the Expo organising committee, thank you for joining us at the third annual Gold Coast International Marine Expo and we look forward to welcoming you back at the same time next year.
Happy boating.Gold Coast International Marine Expo Association.

Two times world high diving champion Steve Black leads the Expo High Divers and with 27 years in show experience, he looks forward to putting on a show in front of a home crowd.
“It is the first time the high divers have performed at the Expo and I am very excited to be part of this event. My home town is the Gold Coast and after travelling the world performing, it is great to be home,” he said.
The high divers will perform three shows daily with acts including a mix of Olympic diving, comedy diving, a 25m high dive and a daring fire dive to finish off the day.

SO MUCH MORE THAN A BOAT SHOW
THIS YEAR THE EXPO IS BOASTING MORE EXHIBITORS AND AN ACTION-PACKED EVENTS CALENDAR WITH EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS AND ENTERTAINMENT
“For the first time at the Expo you have the chance to come down to the marina and tour the Sea World’s primary research and rescue vessel, Sea World 1. This boat has been involved in hundreds of whale, shark and turtle rescues around Australia. You can learn about the Sea World Research and Rescue team, what happens during a rescue and even see the specialised rescue equipment they use,” she said.
In 2013 you will also have the opportunity to come down to the travel lift bay and see, hear and feel the power of an Offshore Superboat. Offshore Superboat Racing is for the rare bread that love adventure, adrenalin and speed. A Team 3 driver will be talking about the racing experiences, inside knowledge and how a race boat reaches maximum speed in excess of 120mph.
Ms Emma Milne said Expo organisers were pleased to have a comprehensive list of new live seminars and live demonstrations this year.
“As Australia’s only ‘working boat show’ we are pleased to host fishing talks by Tackleworld and the new Riviera seminars where people will have the opportunity to see the varying stages of construction and hear from Riviera’s passionate craftsmen as they explain the latest in marine design and technology,” Ms Emma Milne said.
“We have an exciting line-up of popular entertainment this year with the Yamaha Supertank Fishing Show, the Jetpack Adventures Demonstration, a Mock Rescue Demonstration from the Westpac Surf Life Saving Helicopter Rescue Service, the Flyboard X, and a Hydraulic Submersion Lift Demonstration.”

ome of the world’s most esteemed marine brands will launch their latest releases at the third annual Gold Coast International Marine Expo.
This year’s Expo marks the world release of the new models from Clipper
Motor Yachts, Alaska, Quintrex, Integrity Motor Yachts and Stefan Boating World.
After two years on the drawing board, Clipper is pleased to announce the imminent arrival of its new range of lobster style sedan cruisers, the Hudson Bay series, which is available in a 28ft, 34ft and 39ft model.
Designed with local knowledge for coastal cruising for families and avid entertainers, Alaska Motor Yachts’ flagship 59 Sedan offers four cabins, high-sided walk arounds, open-plan integration of
the helm, galley and dining and saloon areas for onboard entertaining and is the first Alaska to feature Wesmar Hydraulic Stabilisers as standard equipment to assure comfort and safety at sea.
Quintrex’s new innovative Blade Hull design uses stretch forming technology and the fine-tuned combination of convex and concave shapes, which allows the hull to cut through choppy water like a knife while deflecting spray, making this Quintrex’s most advanced hull design yet.
The new Integrity 440 Sedan offers exceptional lateral stability and the generous beam also allows for wide walk around side decks for safety aboard without impacting on the internal areas. The raised foredeck has allowed for a very comfortable lower deck accommodation area featuring two very
spacious cabins offering full queen size beds and exceptional head height. The 440 Sedan can cleverly sleep an additional two couples in the fully enclosed cockpit and saloon dinette. This innovative accommodation design is a great feature of this very versatile craft.
Stefan Boating World will launch a range of boats to suit every boater and budget including the Smartliner for anglers, Razer Cat for jet skiers, Karnic for leisure boating, The Clear Bottom for reef watching and The Gladiator for the

adventurer all at the Expo. Stefan will also announce at Expo his new relationship as a franchise of the world’s leading outboard company.
Gold Coast International Marine Expo spokeswoman Emma Milne said it was pleasing to see so many international marine brands launching their new products at the Expo.
“This year the Expo will stage more than 20 new product releases, including the Southern Hemisphere release of the Lipari 41 Evolution and Catana 59 from Multihull Solutions, the Australian release of Xenta from Aquamare Marine, Honwave Inflatables from Honda Australia, Silentwind Wind Generator, Dustless Blasting from Bradford Marine, and the Jet Ski Dock from Pacific Pontoon & Pier,” Ms Milne said.
The latest new model to arrive in Australia from Multihull Solutions, the Catana 59, will have her Southern Hemisphere release at the Expo. Featuring a sleek and minimalist design with single level cockpit and saloon, multi-purpose extendable lounge, and truly unique living zones, the Catana 59 has an incredible sense of space.
Another Australian release is Honda Australia’s
Honwave Inflatable, which has been designed for use with Honda’s range of lightweight and fuel-efficient portable outboard engines.
Manufactured from premium-quality PVC, the Honwave range encompasses models spanning 2-3m in length, packaged with Honda outboards from the BF2.3 to the BF15.
Ms Milne said it was also pleasing to announce the Queensland premiere of the new Riviera 50 Enclosed Flybridge, which features three cabins, two bathrooms and a Euro-style interior, making this an entirely new Riviera.
“Riviera will also unveil at the Expo the very latest addition to its SUV Collection, the new 515 SUV with a full interior display of this exciting new vessel on show for the very first time ahead of her world release at the 2014 Riviera Festival of Boating in May,” she said.
“Other Queensland premieres will include the Brig Eagle 480 from Sirocco Marine North, Bayliner Element from C Worthy Marine, and Algae-Free, to name but a few of the exciting new product releases at the Expo.”
The new Bayliner Element is a simple, straightforward multi-purpose boat. The hull has been specifically designed for this particular model and is based on an “M” shape that keeps the boat stable and allows for flat safe turns, something research suggested boaters were conscious of out on the water. Powered by a 60hp Mercury outboard, the Element has all the power you need for cruising, watersports or simply getting out and about.
“The Expo is so much more than a boat show – it encourages boating enthusiasts and exhibitors to come together in an interactive and memorable manner, and this is evident in the significant number of new product releases and attractions planned this year,” Ms Milne said.

THE GOLD COAST INTERNATIONAL MARINE EXPO IS HOME TO HUMBLE KAYAKS, TRICKY TRAILERBOATS, CABIN CRUISERS, SAILBOATS AND THE MOST LUXURIOUS CRAFT IN THE COUNTRY
Establish a budget and stick to it
Consider drawing down on your mortgage in the low-interest environment
Compare effective interest rates of those pay-by-the-month package deals with personal-loan rates from the banks
Factor in 5-10 per cent of the purchase price for running costs and maintenance
Involve everyone in the decision-making process to ensure you buy a crowd pleaser
Encourage the dealer to throw-in some boat-show incentives such as safety gear or electronics
With new 2014 models coming, look for keenly priced 2013 run-out deals
Beware of towing limits. You don’t want to have to buy a new car to lug your new boat
Make sure you have a berth lined-up if you’re diving in the deep end with a big boat
Remember: the best boat is the one you use most often. Bigger isn’t always be better.

oating is float therapy. Pure and simple. Restorative and remedial, no matter how you get afloat. Paddle, sail, motor, yacht race or lazy cruise, overnight, entertaining aboard or via a berth for dinner ashore.
But that’s just for starters. The main meal might be a trophy snapper you caught earlier in the day. With a boat, your catch rate will improve. More than 70 per cent of all new boat sales are for fishing reasons.
The Gold Coast International Marine Expo is home to humble kayaks, tricky trailerboats, cabin cruisers, sailboats and the most luxurious craft in the country. With all these boats vying for your dollar, you need a boat-buying strategy.
Where to start? If you like the idea of getting fit and up close and personal with the waterways then a simple rotomoulded polyethylene sit-on kayak for $750-$1,000 is a great place to start.
However, the humble tinnie is surely the most indispensable of boats. Costing about $6,000 for a 3.70-metre dory with 15hp outboard, trailer and safety gear, a tinnie offers a flat-water boating fix without lots of maintenance.
If you prefer boating on the wet-and-wild side, consider the new game-changing Sea-Doo Spark from $6999 for a ride-one watercraft. That’s the cheapest ‘jet-ski’ ever.
But if fishing is your motive, a really nice 4.2-metre purpose-built aluminium barra boat can be yours for less than $20,000 drive away. Tackle extra, but there’s plenty going at the Expo.
If you want more comforts, safety, the ability to range from one end of the Broadwater to the other,
tow the tykes on tubes, fish and crab, go for a 4.3 to 4.8-metre runabout for about $20,000 with 40hp outboard, trailer, seating for four and safety gear.
An aluminium bowrider with forward seating loved by kids is an even more summer savvy boat. Conversely, a trailerable plate-aluminium cuddy-cabin boat with a sharp hull will get you offshore in comfort for the same $35,000-plus.
Above five metres, you’ll find greater refinement, a smoother ride, and better comforts with a fibreglass boat. American-made bowriders are good buying in the present climate. Think $30,000-$35,000, although new-entry level rigs are available for $25,000.
Sportfishers from America generally cost upwards of $50,000, but our local boat builders are turning out some great bluewater boats these days. The local backing can be a big plus in years to come.
Footloose families will embrace a trailerable cabin cruiser. You will need anywhere upwards of $120,000 and a maxi 4WD tow vehicle for a five-star ‘caravan’ on water.
Of course, the sky’s the limit with non-trailerable craft, but an entry-level sportscruiser measuring about 8-9 metres in length will set you back about $150,000. You’ll pay twice that for a 10-metre sportscruiser and more than a million for a 15-metre sport yacht with reverse-cycle air-conditioning, washing machine and dishwasher. If fuel is a worry, go sailing, the wind is free.
But at the end of the day, the best boat you can hope to own is the one that you use the most. And that gets back to making a considered decision and involving the wishes of your would-be crew. Take them shopping and settle on something that everyone gives the thumbs up.

We don’t just mean the volume of water the brand can produce - although that’s important - but the volume of sales. Because that’s a good indicator of reputation and reliability. For all desalinators sold in Australia, HRO is by far the market leader.
The reasons for this success lay in HRO’s long term experience in desalination, their end-to-end service support, and their ability to design and manufacture low energy units that can produce from 648 to 6,816 litres of pure water a day.
When choosing a desalinator, look for one with the biggest volume.
